PS4 Version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Dominates Major Japanese Retailer’s Sales Chart

Like every week, the major Japanese retailer Tsutaya was the first to release sales charts for the local market, and this time around they're quite interesting, as they give the first glimpse on the debut performance of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Looks like everyone's eating this game up.

The game is friggin awesome

showtimefolks3258d ago

No doubt. It's kind of funny that MS has the marketing rights yet it's selling more on ps4 lol

Kingscorpion713258d ago

I know right! And that's the reason why I don't think Xbox one can't catch up with PS4 in sales because of the install base and wouldn't even matter who has better games at this point. Microsoft mess up in the beginning and that might affect them from winning this war and in the long run. I actually want Microsoft to catch up so it can keep Sony on their toes and competitive.

zeal0us3258d ago

Not really more like you would suspect it to happen in some areas of the world where the PS4 is in more demand than the XB1.

Professor_K3258d ago

it would be seeling more on ps4 if they werent, so it makes a difference

TheHaloGuy3258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

Get that stupid shit outta here. Gawd fanboys are so annoying.

Rookie_Monster3258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

I like how you constantly keep writing how Xbox one only sold like 20 consoles a week in Japan and now talk about how the witcher 3 sold so poorly on XB1 compared to PS4 in Japan. LoL.

marlinfan103258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

Yeah a console with double the install base selling more games, who would've thought?

And in Japan I'm sure it's far more than double

TheXgamerLive3258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

Ha Ha Ha KingScorpion71, you need to reread what you've written, basically your saying you don't see any reason why the Xbox One can't catch up to the PS4.

Seriously, stop the little boy b*^ch mentality and move on. Xbox One or PS4 superiority bloggers just quite it and get a life.
I love my Xbox One and all things Xbox but I don't give a sh*t what sony or anyone else does and I don't write about that either, neither should anyone else unless you have a six plus figure investment in the company and I'm pretty sure you don't.

johndoe112113258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

@Thehaloguy & TheXgamerLive
http://sd.keepcalm-o-matic....

O.T.

It would sell more regardless. If I remember correctly, only about 56,000 xbones have been sold in japan, compared to the 1.4 million ps4's. Nothing is going to sell on the xbox one in japan over the ps4.

DrumBeat3258d ago

So many more people own PS4.

Makes sense.

Jalva3258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

That's because far more people own a PS4 rather than an Xbox One, it's not rocket science...

Edit: I really should've read all the replies before commenting as I've just said what the guy above me has said lol

Taero3258d ago

Well in this case it's completely understandable, the game could be twice as expensive on ps4 and it would still outsell the XboxOne version in Japan because noone owns an Xbox over there...

shadowknight2033258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

I could care less if ms catches up personally. Ive never been anti xbox, im simply anti ms but I dont go around blindly following sony either. Sony as a company is nevertheless hurting in many deptartments, gaming however is so profitable for them right now because they're doing everything right this generation. So no matter what position ms is in, sony must stay on their toes regardless of ms disposition within the gaming arena due to their negative losses in other technology fields. Real talk right there.

u4one3258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

It's the Japanese market. At what point has xbox ever given PlayStation competition in is home country? The number of ps4 to xbox is heavily biased to ps4. Of course it's going to sell more because barely anyone there has an Xbox. Just for conversations sake though remember that xbox outsold ps4 in north America last report with no crazy sales or promotions. Most of the game buying public are not huge fanboys so as long as ms can keep good games and services coming like they've started to do, Sony is going to have to keep looking over its shoulder.

PONTIAC08G8GT3257d ago

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand simple logic. If one console is selling better than the other console, clearly the game is going to sell more copies on the system that has sold better.

Multiplatform games are going to always sell better on the PS4 because the user base is greater than the X1's. I have an X1 and I don't care if a game sells better on one system or the other. As long as you can play it, who cares.

...starring Ceiri. (think that's how you spell it) If she survives the end. Idk, still haven't beaten the game yet.

spoonard3258d ago

In 10 years and on PS6 and Xbox Three.

Bigpappy3258d ago

If this games does exceedingly well in Japan, it will for ever change AAA JRPG's to open-world and real-time combat.

I would get all the credit though, as Skyrim and Bloodborn did quite well there. Add to those the upcoming FFXV, and you have a trend in the making.

Take note Bioware, this could have been you if you didn't sell your soul to the devil. Not to say they haven't released good games but other than Inquisition, the rest they've released haven't lived up to their high standard.

showtimefolks3258d ago

Mass effect 2 is amazing

Mass effect 3 is amazing if you take out the last 15 minutes. And dragon age was nothing but boring dull world filled with fetch quest (at least with my experience, I respect the fact a lot of gamers love it. To each their own)

I personally can not wait to see what theh will do with next mass effect and if we may see their new IP trailer in 2015

OzzY-waZZy3258d ago

Loving the Witcher, DA: Inquisition for me was torture. Like you said, incredibly dull.

camel_toad3258d ago

Yep man in DA after the quests started to feel like nothing more than the fetch quests they were it felt like I was playing a single player mmo - got boring.

Loving all of the side stories in witcher. It all feels so well-thought out.

Antifan3258d ago (Edited 3258d ago )

W3 waaay better than any Bioware game, even better than DAO, and I'm a DAO fanboy. Your choices actually matter, and the right choices isn't as clear unlike in DA, and consequences are a lot more brutal and realistic, it makes DA/ME look like children's play. That's what makes it so much better. Just finished the baron family side quest...my god, never thought it would end the way it did because of poor decisions I made. Now I can't reverse the save. Looks like I'm gonna have to live with it :(

Omnisonne3258d ago

Yh you should never reload saves in this game, no matter how bad you messed up. It should be an oath lol

Though sometimes you really can't foresee the effects of your choise, and you just have to live with whatever unfolds. Makes the game/stories much more meaningful:)

Lighter93258d ago

Bethesda should take note as well. ;)

Malacath3258d ago

What?

Mass Effect 1+2 are among the best RPG's ever. Although ME3 ruined the whole series for me due to having the worst endings in a video game ever

Dragon Age Origins was awesome

Dragon age 2 was ok.

Star Wars KOTOR was awesome.

They've done more good games than bad.

pompombrum3257d ago

Mass Effect 1, Dragon Age Origins, KOTOR were all done before they were bought out by EA.

Westside the best side. Thanks 2pac. Best RPG since GTAV and Red Dead. It's up there with FF 7, 8, and 9.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave20d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan20d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

I can't fk with this list. They missed on alot of games probably before the writers times. Also I know people loved some portal but I was never a fan.

Driver 1
Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94
Mortal Kombat OG

Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name44d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno44d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno44d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure44d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
