It also tops the charts in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Australia and New Zealand.

bouzebbal3356d ago

good to see that reviews don't matter much..
now let's see if they will step their game up with the sequel.

vishmarx3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

this situation is hilarious.
internet's word isnt worth s*** it seems lol.
bombs watchdogs-sells 10 million
bombs destiny-sells like hotcakes
bombs driveclub- sell more than a million
praises SSO - barely sells more than half a million, similar situation with fh2 and bayonetta 2
bombs the order with everything they have- tops charts everywhere
praises mcc - mp is broken to date an the company is still giving away free stuff as an apology
praises ac u - for some reason the devs insist on giving away a free $60 AAA game , free expansion packs, cancels dlc to make patches, issues multiple apologies even when these so called reviewers found nothing much wrong with it to begin with.

anyways , i contributed to those sales. so glad i did, i mean the guys who gave Evolve and CoD AW a 9 gave this a 4. how could i not like it.

breakpad3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

@vishmarx agree ...although Bayonetta 2 is a real overlooked gem deserved the high praise from reviews and players ...shame that it didnt sell very well

VenomUK3356d ago

I know it's just a poor Google translation but I love that phrase about the haters who had a "beautiful cry!"

SpringHeeledJack3356d ago

All those 8/10 are not part of some global conspiracy. The game really is great.

Gazondaily3356d ago

@abzdine

"good to see that reviews don't matter much..
now let's see if they will step their game up with the sequel."

Well if the sales are good then what reason is there for them to step up the game?

Mind you, I don't think even they can ignore the vocal and almost universal criticisms against this, regardless of its high sales.

johndoe112113356d ago

Haven't you heard? Angry Joe said this game is crap so it must be true.

No amount of bad press and halfa$$ed reviews are gonna stop this train. People are seeing it and hearing from players who actually played the game without pre-conceived negative biases.

johndoe112113356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

@septic

Get a dictionary and look up the meaning of the word "universal"

@johndoe

"Get a dictionary and look up the meaning of the word "universal"

Get a dictionary and look up the meanings of the words "almost" and "criticisms".

vishmarx3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

@johndoe

Angry joke is a hardcore pc gamer who will say just about anything to maintain his 'true voice of the gamers' bs public perception.
he doesnt even care about console games. he's a hipster who will bash anything that already has haters because he knows theyll always back him up.

majority say dlc is bad, so he says it too and people cheer for him(yet he buys $100 worth of dlc in evolve on day1 )
majority say the order is bad because no mp and short, he says it too, people cheer for him. despite the fact that he had very different opinions on the very same thing in wolfenstien TNO.
majority say nintendo is awesome , he throws that in his reviews too, people cheer for him .yet he has never reviewed a single nintendo game in his life.

majority says tlou is good , he follows the bandwagon and trolls xbox owners
majority loves hating on CoD, he does it too.
lots of praise .lots of clicks. YAY!
even when i see myself agreeing with him at times, i know its because he's blatantly stating what people people discuss in internet forums all the time, not because its his opinion

he's nothing but a shameless loudmouth joker with zero self respect and dignity who goes wherever the money is at. the only difference is while sites like ign and such take money from game publishers , he takes it from the gamers , to say what they want to hear.

johndoe112113356d ago

@septic

You do realize that using the words "almost" and "criticism" lends zero credibility to that statement right? Hey, if you don't like the game you don't like the game, that's your prerogative.

johndoe112113356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

@vishmarx
BINGO!!!!!!!

Hence the reason I unsubscribed from him months ago.

bouzebbal3355d ago (Edited 3355d ago )

Septic:
I don't understand why you insist too much.. You don't like this game i think everyone got it.

"Well if the sales are good then what reason is there for them to step up the game?"
This is disappointing coming from an "honest" member you are claiming yourself to be.
The major flaws of this game are longevity and replay value. If they make the sequel longer, add some more open areas for exploration and add a good replay value to it i think we might get a GOTY nominee.
Sony's first party games all step it up with the second episode. First game of the studios one is almost always an implementation of the engine and the next episode is always bigger in every way. Uncharted, Crash, Jak, God of War all say hi!
The Order for sure built very solid ground for a very successful series due to an incredible atmosphere, best voice acting i have seen and solid fighting mechanics. 2 more years of working on the world will blow everyone away... but probably not you.

Well, there's nothing else out. Why wouldn't it top the charts? Not really any real indication to its success or not. People have been waiting to play this game, or ANY current-gen game for awhile now.

"despite the controversy and all the bad buzz that unfairly surrounds the release of The Order, 1886, the title of Ready at Dawn is selling extremely well in France. "

assumptions. Can't really tie the two together as direct results of one another. Basically what I mean is, don't all a sudden think that reviews for this game, or any game, don't matter.

EDIT:

@Nyxus - "You really think all those people only bought this game because there is nothing else to play?"

putting words into my mouth. I said there is nothing else OUT - why WOULDNT it top the charts? Whether they bought it because theres nothing else to play, that can be argued. But topping the charts when there are no other major games out - doesn't really mean or show any signs of success. Just means, there was nothing else out to compete with.

Can you not agree with that? You say "all those people" as if you already have an idea of how many people. Numbers could be dumb low for all we know, but better than those other games to top the charts.

Mind you this is only ONE WEEK. If it tops the charts multiple weeks in a row, then we can say "despite the controversy and all the bad buzz that unfairly surrounds the release of The Order, 1886, the title of Ready at Dawn is selling extremely well"

on a side note, "unfairly" - someone mixing their feelings into this article i see.

@Bathyj that's good for you.

Nyxus3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

This argument again? You really think all those people only bought this game because there is nothing else to play? Speaking of assumptions.

Bathyj3356d ago

I always thought reviews don't matter, not all of a sudden.

lastdual3356d ago

I skipped The Order, but a friend bought the game and that's literally what he told me: "There's nothing else out."

He doesn't hate the game, although he is a bit underwhelmed. It's basically just something to tide most people over until MGSV/Uncharted4/Batman:AK etc.

Joe9133356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

Your argument does not make sense there are plenty of games out right now no way all these people bought every single ps4 game already so they have nothing else to play. On top of that if people was waiting on PS4 exclusive they could have waited until blood borne but they did not they bought this. I think a lot of people was interested in this game since they first showed it and PS players should be used to media shitting on PS exclusives by now that they just know it is all BS. For example Drive Club great game came out broke so did all the other games that came out at the same time yet it is fixed but people still talk crap about it. MCC is still broke no one talks about that and ACU was broke for a longer period of time than DC but nobody talked about it.

@lastdual have your friend tried Dying light it is a really good game. I love it and it is pretty long if you play all the side missions as well as main story missions. I just got the Order last night love the look but need to finish Dying light before I really get into the game.

Griever3356d ago

What about Bloodborne, FF Type-O, Evolve, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, Resident Evil Revelations 2 and Dying Light? Arent those games that PS4 owners can buy instead of Order 1886 if they wanted to? Nobody is forced to buy an exclusive title especially if it is bad. Just accept it; people gave the game a chance and loved it despite the haters' propaganda. Stop making excuses. Gamers win; haters lose!

Spotie3356d ago

Nothing but 35 games so far this year, and another 16 this month alone.

http://www.ign.com/games/ps...

Yeah, people are so hard up for games on PS4 that they'd buy The Order even when they don't want to...

The hate is real.

The_Sage3356d ago

Your logic is twisted. There have been plenty of games that have come out when there was no other big contender that did not sell well. You should do a little research before you post. This game sold well because people were exited about the premise despite the curious negative press. I have the game, and it is one of the best 3rd P person shooters that I have played. If you don't want it, you're doing yourself a disservice as a gamer.

Aceman183356d ago

@blaze

Lol sorry dude that's a weak a$$ excuse I have a backlog of games to play, and I still purchased this game because I wanted to play it.

DARK WITNESS3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

lol, I honestly cannot count the number of times sales numbers have been dismissed as meaningless when it comes to quality of a game or how good a game is.

I remember when fanboys would throw excuses like "Justin Bieber sell's millions doesn't mean he is good" and stuff like that.

or if it was something like halo or worse still COD, you would hear, just because millions play it don't mean it's quality...

This was always thrown in people's faces when a favorite game of xyz fanboys was proclaimed to be the most amazing tingz eversz.... but it sold like shit or nobody played it.

now sales matter again, conveniently... lol you got to love it!!

Reviews don't count for nothing... unless it's a 9 out of 10, then they are legit, but if it's for a game from "That other company" then it's a conspiracy, they been bribed, the journalists are not credible.

insomnium23356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

@DARK WITNESS

I agree on many points. This gen the PS-fanboys have gone over the deep end imo.

To me sales do not count as quality still. I said this with PS3 and will say it again. Last gen PS3 got overly critisized and that was even proven with that one website where they compared how they scored x360 games and PS3 games vs MC. I forgot the name but still. It was clear bias that could be proven for once.

It was Edge magazine iirc that got caught with their pants down for being biased. I cared back then since I saw PS3 getting hammered with double standards etc. This gen is a landslide victory as far as console sales go atleast so I don't really care. I just play the games and every now and the rarely pop in to this site to read stuff. All is well in my gaming world. I just bought Suikoden 1 and 2 for my Vita. I finished 1 and just started suikoden 2. I play them on my way to work. I will propably buy the order once it drops in price. Good times. Keep gaming folks.

It would be fair to assume that TO 1886 has probably sold nearly a million copies.

Pretty good for a supposedly mediocre game.

Tedakin3356d ago

Well I mean... hype, pre-orders, etc. Sales don't equal quality. If it did that means Avatar is the best movie ever made and it's pretty bad.

MyDietEqualsGames3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

Quality. What is that to you? What is that to the next person?

Disagrees. Come out and talk. Don't hide behind a web button.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

Is the PS4 selling on hype or quality? The PS4 hype train died last year but it's still outselling the competition. What was your point again?

@Blaze929

" Because I'm sure Sony (any company actually) would have made a press release saying so, if so"

Oh it's coming. My guess is the news about The Order's sales numbers will be out this week, I say Tuesday March 3rd if you'd like a specific guess.

Joe9133356d ago

By that logic you can say that about every single successful game that comes out for now on since every game gets hyped and every game has pre-order bs that comes with it lol.

Griever3356d ago

Sales may not mean quality but they do mean what people want and people like. And that is all that matters. Besides, how do you define and quantify quality? Do reviews mean quality? Just like in the case of AC Unity? Was that a quality game? Order 1886 did not sell on hype but the hate. Hate compelled people to give the game a chance and majority loved it. Just accept it man; haters lost.

MyDietEqualsGames3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

If it's nearly then we won't see anything of the sort. They will if a milestone is achieved, and why not?

I'd love to see most of the people who reviewed the game eat crow, and not because I care about Sony, it's because most of the people covering games disgust me, and it would make me happy to see them wallow @ the games success.

RocketScienceLvlStuf3356d ago

Justin Bieber sells millions, his music is the best right?

50 Shades of Grey broke sales records...best movie ever right?

The Order: 1886 pushed visuals hard in 2015 - And still looks stunning today

Digital Foundry : Released in February 2015, The Order: 1886 was a stunning PlayStation 4 game at the cutting-edge of rendering technology, with visuals that still hold up today. The game's release pre-dated in-depth Digital Foundry coverage, something we're looking to address with this new video! Ready at Dawn's game never received a sequel and never received a PS4 Pro upgrade, but thanks to developments with exploited, older firmware PS5 consoles, we can now show you the game running locked at 60 frames per second.

The gameplay was bland and extremely frustrating at times with unnecessary QTE combat at points. But the world and the lore and the characters and the story were fantastic. I’ve always wanted a sequel. I still hope Sony will surprise us one day.

isarai273d ago

I still stand by my theory that this game just released at the wrong time. Almost every outlet spent a lot of time in their reviews ragging on the game for not being an online experience, everyone was in the Destiny hype train and at the time they wanted EVERY game to follow suit, bashing any game that didn't. If this were released after everyone realized how much that wasn't future, people would've appreciated it more. I loved it, and I'm always disappointed that we'll never get a sequel

Tacoboto273d ago

That doesn't seem to be true about outlets complaining on the lack of online. The review summaries on Metacritic are very consistent: Amazing graphics, but shallow gameplay and a very short length with little reason to return.

Here's an example of how *little* time IGN spent talking about multiplayer:

"With no multiplayer, and no reason to revisit the short and stunted single-player campaign once it’s been completed, there just isn’t a lot to it."

It's the final sentence. They don't even take the time to say "online multiplayer"

MrChow666273d ago (Edited 273d ago )

"Amazing graphics, but shallow gameplay and a very short length with little reason to return."
You are right, that's what everbody was saying at the time, never heard anything about it not being online.
I've been thinking about trying this game for years, I may get it now that it's dirt cheap, no big loss if it sucks

MrChow666273d ago

Oh, add to that bad enemy AI, I remember that from the reviews, I saw a video of a wherewolf boss fight with a very weak AI

thorstein273d ago

And there we glowing reviews for shorter games. It was one of the times where hating this game was "cool."

CrimsonWing69273d ago

Can you show me the reviews that rag on it for not having an online experience?

I’m not doubting you or anything. I’m just being lazy.

isarai273d ago

Sorry, not multiplayer, open world is what I meant.

Tacoboto273d ago

That's also fake news, isarai. Again, the game was consistently criticized for what it was (Pretty but extremely short, extremely linear, hand-holding, no replayability), not for what it wasn't (multiplayer/open-world)

isarai273d ago

Nope, every review uses the term "linear" several times as if it's some inherently bad attribute. Not fake news at all. Since then there's veen plenty of short and sweet single player linear games that get lots of praise, again after the reality of everything being open world set it and it wasn't as great as everyone thought. But at the launch of the last gen everyone had open world fever, and especially the first couple years "linear" was a con in many games reviewed

Tacoboto273d ago

That's your own contortion assuming criticism of its extremely linear design is suddenly a call for it to have been open world.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 273d ago
zumlauf14273d ago

You totally made up a claim regarding an overall review consensus that isn't true. And, instead of just ignoring being called out for it, you respond with "oh actually i ment to say OPEN WORLD". Which literally isn't true either. You can't show us one review that bashed the game for "not being open world". And, somehow the other guy is getting downvoted. Over a bullshit liar.

isarai273d ago

Games were being criticized at that time for any game that wasn't open world or online. So yeah I got one mixed for the other, doesn't change my argument one bit that it would've been received better if it released later. People are agreeing because if you were not riding the "online and open world" hype train at that time, it was blatantly obvious there were biases in play for how games were criticized. Now after all that has happened since people want to say "oh wait these games were actually pretty good" cause they know better now

Rude-ro273d ago

The gameplay was very shallow and when one says repetitive, it is by the very definition for some fights. As in, completely identical but different setting.

The game has amazing potential.
The graphics, the lore, characters…
This could most definitely have been all corrected with a sequel and became a franchise hit…
Still would love to see an attempt.

Ie fantastic premise and moments that shine…
But it had its downfalls that deserved the negative marks.

thorstein273d ago

It was the "game to hate" when it launched. And right here, on this site, we saw people posting stories that were outright fabrications about the game. It was weird. The game launched, it was fun, a really cool game but the hate was too much. And so were the lies.

Minute Man 721273d ago

It was just too short....but I loved every minute of it....double dipped and grabbed the ultimate CE

babadivad273d ago

That isn't true. I remember people talking about how incredibly short it was and the somewhat janky gunplay.

KwietStorm_BLM273d ago

First I'm hearing of this. I don't know what multiplayer has to do with anything. The game was just dull. Amazing graphics, great narrative, great lore, boring gameplay sprinkled in pieces between cutscenes, and lackluster AI and controls.

I am a huge Zelda fan and love them all, but for me Ocarina Of Time is the greatest and my second all time favourite game after Final Fantasy VII.

LoveSpuds627d ago (Edited 627d ago )

You sir, have good taste in games :)

I also love all of the Zelda games but I adore Windwaker (Specifically the HD version on WiiU) most of all. It is a close run thing with Breath of the Wild though.

Special mention to Cadence of Hyrule too, what an awesome spin off title that was!

GaboonViper626d ago

Cheers Spuds, yep i love Windwaker too, beautiful artstyle, and i loved sailing and finding all the secrets out there.

blackbeld626d ago

Agreed. For me top 3 of all time is.

1. ocarina of time
2. Final fantasy Vll
3. MGS1

GaboonViper626d ago

Brilliant top 3, would love a MGS1 remake that has been rumoured.

LoveSpuds626d ago

Yup, hard to argue with that top 3 squire, some quality games right there!

-Foxtrot628d ago

Oh gee can't imagine what Number 1 is

....

A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker etc is better than Breath of the Wild.

lockedongamer1628d ago

I respectfully disagree, but they're all great games.

porkChop628d ago

I think it really depends on what you're looking for. If you want a traditional Zelda game then OoT or WW would be better to you. But if you want a Zelda game that really leans into adventure and exploration, and if you want intelligent systems/logic, BotW would be the better game.

I enjoy both. I understand why some people aren't fond of it but for me it was a breath of fresh air that I really needed. I'd become so burnt out on unimaginative games and BotW sort of made me appreciate games again, as weird as that may sound.

godofboobees627d ago

Those are not traditional Zelda games

Crows90626d ago

Right...so let's pretend ocarina of time didnt have exploration, secret dungeons and other secrets. Complex boss mechanics and exploration rewards. At least a traditional Zelda has dungeons.

porkChop626d ago

What point are you attempting to make? At no point did I say that OoT didn't have any of that. However, the level of exploration and sense of adventure are vastly different between OoT and BotW.

Brazz627d ago

Breath of the Wild is overrated as shot, Wind waker is much better.

P_Bomb627d ago

I’m a Link to the Past guy.

MadLad627d ago

Majora's Mask still holds as my favorite to this day, despite being the black sheep of the series.

The Curious Case of The Order: 1886 - A Retrospective

Ready At Dawn cut their teeth developing spin-offs for PlayStation Portable and porting games to consoles. When they got a chance to establish their own with The Order: 1886, its poor critical reception ostensibly halted their trajectory. Can one middling game really sully one’s reputation in the eyes of Sony?

moriarty1889739d ago

Wanted a sequel for this game so much. It was left wide open for one with the ending it had.

porkChop739d ago

Sony did file a new trademark a while back, so you never know. Though if I were to guess it would be a reboot rather than a sequel.

REDGUM739d ago

The Order was great from my playthrough and really enjoyed it. The same with Days Gone. Both, amongst others out there, deserve a follow-up. Anyone who actually played through the complete games knows there were hidden gems in and around these 2 games. Too many out there put too much faith in reviewer's opinions instead of thier own and get put off or join the hate bandwagon.
Seriously, gamers need to game & not read or view other people game with added opinions thrown in.
Honestly, if you haven't played either of these 2 games yet, do yourself a favour, pick it or them up, forget anything you know about them & just play it for yourself & create you're own opinions.

Ninver739d ago

I ignored the reviews and went straight to the store to but the game. Thoroughly enjoyed it I might add. If only Sony had the balls to summon enough faith to reboot or give us a sequel. Maybe even a prequel done right and make it a 3 part series. Wasted opportunity for a really different exclusive if you ask me.

barom739d ago

Days Gone is really an exceptional game though it feels like it took a bit of time for it to get interesting.

The Order 1886 was unfortunately not very good. Super beautiful game with beautiful cinematics but felt incomplete and don't really remember much happening at all in the game i.e. it was kind of bland. A sequel where they learned from their mistakes would be very intriguing though and I would have bought it.

monkey602739d ago

I loved Days Gone and I would have loved a sequel.

I didnt like The Order. There was enough there for me to give a sequel a chance if they improved on bits but I'm losing no sleep over the absence of it. I thought the 1st one was genuinely terrible for a multitude of valid reasons.

S2Killinit739d ago

I really enjoyed it. I was hoping for a game in the same world but less linear. With lots of that sweet lore.

YoungKingDoran739d ago

Yeah with the tech sorted and expanding on the existing assets, they could/should have been able to do a trilogy that gen. What happened..

moriarty1889739d ago

Agreed. Such an interesting title just abandoned. Makes no sense. As I said the ending of the game sets up for a sequel perfectly.

porkChop739d ago

Incredible graphics and presentation. Great use of photo mode. A really interesting premise. The actual gunplay felt solid. The game just needed to be longer, and the levels could have been a bit less constrained. More enemy variety as well. At full price it just didn't have the value, at least in my opinion.

I would like to see a sequel or reboot, which I think is more likely. It would need to be a new dev as Ready at Dawn are part of Oculus now

robtion739d ago

I think Bluepoint could do a good job. They have the technical capability if Demon's Souls is anything to go by.

MeatyUrologist739d ago

Agreed. Because of all the bad reviews I waited until the end of last gen to buy it, but was really surprised. The only knocks against it were length and linearity. Really loved the visuals, atmosphere, story, and characters. The gunplay was actually really well done with unique and fun weapons.

You mentioned the photo mode, and this was one of the best examples I have seen. They actually allow you to add filters and modify the visuals in the photo mode, and then apply those to the game. I have never seen that before or since. I really wish more games would allow this. Give the users more control over how the game looks to cater it to their tastes.

This was a weird one in that the community hated the game but also demanded a sequel

Because it’s literally a 5 hr game, yet had the same quality offering of the other AAA Sony games that are tens to hundreds of hours of gameplay.

I used a walkthrough trophy guide for the platinum to not miss any collectibles in one run, it took 8hrs. I thought it was actually a pretty great game, but always wonder why that level of game development didn’t continue for a 15hr single player campaign.

I'm part of the community and I loved it.

I think a lot of the hate was from people who didn't even play it jumping on the bandwagon. Clearly there was the usual hate from xbox fans but also from insecure PC players as the graphics were (still are) phenomenal.
The game is a flawed gem. A new entry on PS5 would have great potential (doubt it will happen though, Sony isn't into risk taking these days).

All the early hate was a people who haven't played it and were quick to call it a QTE game.

I'm an Xbox fan and I'm planning on getting a PS4 pro one day to play this game along with gravity Rush 2 and others.

-"I think a lot of the hate was from people who didn't even play it jumping on the bandwagon."

Can we please stop retreating back such tired defenses? It's had a heavily mixed reception ever since critics PLAYED the game back then, and justifiably so. Even trying to rope in "insecure PC players" just shows how shallow this view actually is.

Can't ever forget those terribly designed lycan fights.

Ugh, I love this game! But yes, those lycan fights were terribly designed, for real.

Overall though, solid gameplay.
