I Don't Need a Hashtag to Show My Love for Gaming

Tony Polanco from The Koalition writes:

"I explained my position: that I am here to advocate for games and gamers. To show the world that gamers are good people and that video games are an artform as worthy of acceptance as movies and books. The following response is what made me rethink the entire situation. One guy said to me, “That’s a great message, everyone can get behind that.” This is when it hit me, my message was a sound one but it wasn’t being heard because of the GamerGate blanket. This is when I realized that for my message to be heard loud and clear, I needed to drop the “GamerGate” label. I can continue to fight for gamers, games and expose those who would make us look bad without using the hashtag. It was unnecessary and was hindering my efforts to promote gaming as a positive force in the world."

This gamergate thing is starting to spiral in directions I don't care to engage in. As November approaches I just want to play games and be happy. I'm tired of social politics getting in the way of my enjoyment. I agree with what the author says in this. We don't need to attach ourselves to the hashtag to make a difference.

Romudeth3473d ago

GamerGate started off with good intentions but now it seems like people are fighting for the sake of fighting. There is no unified goal or message.

uth113472d ago

They are fighting censorship, journalistic corruption, slander, in some cases wrongful termination, and more. It's not over nothing.

I would say this stuff is more important than the console wars and resolution we normally fight over.

Romudeth3472d ago

I agree with you but while there are those who are fighting for the right things, there are many who are using the movement for evil. These people have made it hard to talk about GamerGate in a positive way.

I also agree that fighting to expose corruption in gaming is far more important than the usual BS we normally fight about. However, it can be done outside of GamerGate.

uth113472d ago

I used to think that. But it's clear that this crap will simply follow to the new platform or tag. They people who are the targets are engaged in a smear campaign against the gamers who are trying to expose this nonsense.

I'm curious to see what both sides think of this article.

As am I. Always more supportive of the more rational opinions.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5070d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5070d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Jack-Pyro5070d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495070d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5070d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5070d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
