Universal Microtransactions are Coming to the PS3

Kotaku's Luke Plunkett writes, "Upcoming shooter Dust 514 won't just be the first PS3 game to link to an MMO on the PC. It'll also be the first to support a framework for the purchase of microtransactions on the PlayStation Network."

MariaHelFutura4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

I couldn't give a sh!t, Dust 514 is easily one of my most anticipated PS3 games. This looks like a Mass Effect FPS MMO, its looks nothing short of amazing, IMO. Youtube has lots of Gameplay vids, go check it out!! This games needs more exposure.

Software_Lover4476d ago

Dust 514 looks nothing like Mass Effect. How/where did you get that comparison?

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34475d ago

Lol, I don't know what she is smoking. This game looks more like Haze than anything else :P

Virtual_Reality4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

After watching the gameplay in the Alpha Build, it looks like a bit of Resistance, Battlefield (because of the objectives).

And in the screenshot at the War Room, which you can see your character in 3rd Person inside the stations, it looks like a bit of the style of Mass Effect: http://img4.mmo.mmo4arab.co...

Is my the most anticipated Online FPS/MMO game for this year.

Soldierone4476d ago

I just hope there is an overall thing you can buy to avoid it. Nothing annoys me more than the "its free!" games then you have to buy something to get anywhere....its like why cant I just pay 15 dollars and be done with it?

Either way this game looks amazing, I just hope micro transactions dont ruin it.

soundslike4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

I don't even think its going to be f2p...

On EVE online they tried to sell cosmetic items for avatars at OUTRAGEOUS prices in real cash. The community literally revolted.

SweatyFlorida4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

It's not F2P, they said you would have to pay a small entry fee to get the game, though don't quote me on that :p Also, I believe everything in the game will be free, it's just instead of "grinding" to get the virtual money in-game, you could just pay real money for instant cash. I hope there aren't any exclusive items people can only buy with real money though, unless it's DLC or something.

And yah, I think everyone heard about the Monocle xD

YourFlyness4476d ago

I remember when the store update right before Christmas and they made the mistake and posted the Dust 514 DLC, is was various "In Game Money" you can buy, I posted a question asking what was it, but it went ignored.

Software_Lover4476d ago

They might do it the same way Global Agenda does their Free-to-play system, which I like

YourFlyness4476d ago

I found my pot on there, it was listed as:

Dust 514 (1100 Aurum – 5000 Aurum) ($1.99 – $19.99 each)

but like I said the took it off

BISHOP-BRASIL4475d ago

I belive you found your POST, otherwise the authorities may want a word with you! LOL

Virtual_Reality4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

Yeah, the items are still there, but you can't access, only for Beta users.

The Expansions for DUST 514 are going to be free, as EVE Online.

telekineticmantis4476d ago

I hope the make the aiming more like it was in the E3 trailer last year.

SweatyFlorida4476d ago

I believe it's the same as E3, just that the gun they used in the pulse video has a magnifying scope.

Though I agree, I don't hate it, but it does seem kinda weird, as the view of the ADS is halfway down the rail, where normally, like a game like BF3 has their set up, should still view the scope somewhat. What makes it weirder is that aiming down a red dot still shows the scope bits, while the one in the video, completely disappears. Maybe it's just that particular scope? eh, whatevs, I'll get used to it :p

Tommy3344476d ago

What is microtransactions?

gigreen4476d ago

I think it's like getting new hairstyles or skirts for your character in Farmville for real money.

BitbyDeath4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

It means that the only purchase you are required to make is the game itself.
However there will be microtransactions you can make during the game by purchasing extra equipment to help get ahead/look good ie. weapons, clothing, rations etc

Home uses this as does the DC MMO which initially used a monthly fee before switching to microtransactions sometime around Xmas.

EDIT: Beaten to it.

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3004d ago (Edited 3004d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3004d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3004d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3004d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3004d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3004d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3004d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3004d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
