Xbox 360 Games on Demand won't feature new games

From Gamespot:
"When the next Xbox Live update hits August 11, Xbox 360 gamers will be able to download a selection of full retail games, including Mass Effect, BioShock, and Assassin's Creed. What they won't be able to do is download the much-anticipated sequels to those titles on the day they hit stores."

the fact you can't buy new titles can only mean one thing:

this was introduced to try and stifle the second hand market that earns deveoper, publishers and console markers zero income.

the whole idea is to sell "platinum" type titles at second hand prices.. hence putting the squeeze on the second hand market..

developers have been working hard to stifle the secondhand market using the folowing methods:

1. special download codes to get free updates that are only usable once e.g. fifa adidas live season

2. preorder bonuses e.g. uc2 preorder bonus.

3. similar to preorder bonuses, special access to upcoming betas e.g. infamous and crackdown

KingKionic 5400d ago

Your right .

What your saying does remind me about how realtime (creators of crackdown) said they would have sold over 2 mill if it weren't for used game sales .

Mr_Bun5400d ago

I am one of the people who bought Crackdown used, but would definitely have bought it if it was available online

Raf1k15400d ago (Edited 5400d ago )

I agree with you but more often than not you can find used games in stores cheaper than they'll be online.

I'm all for buying games online but the prices are usually nothing special unless theres a limited time special offer.

edit: BTW, does it allow you to download games again whenever you want like Steam? Would be pretty great if it does.

Cyan83135400d ago

Yes you can delete them from your 360HDD and redownload them whenever you want.

bubbles! best comment of the day.

Why is it that everything Microsoft does has to be some major conspiracy?

The reason "new titles" aren't available is because Microsoft makes most of their money from retail stores and by selling them all online, they're only going to piss off those retail stores, which could cost them dearly. Imagine what would happen if say Walmart decided to stop selling 360 games. Sound crazy? Well that's probably what they'd consider doing if they perceived Microsoft as trying to cut them out.

Godmars2905400d ago

And Gamestop loses resale market while Joe Average consumer pays $20-$30 for a $10 title because its just "there."

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

Garethvk2d ago

How do you know if you agree with it or not unless you play it? Which without conventions forces gamers to rely on trailers. Perhaps Demos should be made more frequently. But companies need to do better as well.

anast2d ago

Wait until release. Watch Gameplay. Exercise patience.

Garethvk2d ago

But is that not what they have now? Tons of gameplay or are you talking about watching actual gamers play it versus the trailers and streams? The big issue is that some companies pay streamers and influencers and they create content but for me; that is hardly a fair, unbiased, and factual look at a game.

Get rid of the suits in the industry and job done!!

Garethvk2d ago

They usually are attached to the money sadly. It would be nice to have gamers in charge but you have so much money invested that business people are needed. Hence the issue; you need people who know business but are also gamers who know have an eye to the community. It sounds simple in theory that if you give gamers quality games that they want to play; money will be made. But that is not always so.
