Miyamoto on Project H.A.M.M.E.R., 3D gaming devices

Project H.A.M.M.E.R. has had an interesting development cycle, to say the least. Nintendo first unveiled the title way back at E3 2006, stating that it would be an original IP that the company would bring to Wii. Since then, there's been murmurs that the game was canned. Then in May, NGamer said the title was still alive and was being worked on. Shigeru Miyamoto, however, recently responded when asked about the game...

Good to hear about Project HAMMER.

Also, lol'd about the dislike for the goggle idea. Hmm, I wonder why he doesn't like that idea? (Virtual Boy, much?)

Product5681d ago

interesting......does this mean nintendo is where its at with motion controls?will there be more then just where we are at?
no headgear.....what else could there be really?
although maybe nintendo wont need headgear i heard philips has made a 3d tv where without glasses the images come off the screen........maybe this kind of tech is for tv makers not video game makers.

" headgear i heard philips has made a 3d tv where without glasses the images come off the screen"

Iv'e seen that thing in action, its awesome....but...
it also has its own flaws.

For example if you are not sittin/standing in the center...blurry screen, and bad 3D effect.
Movies with 3d Special effects will look really really fake.
The effect of it coming out of the screen works great, but you will see that they are more CGI than ever before.

However since i was standing correctly in front of the TV pinokkio's nose looked freaking awesome in shrek 2.
300, with the 3D effect looked...really fake -_-.

But these tv's are improving and i really liked what i saw, and since 3D games do not need some special updates they will work directly with these tv's. So yes, according to the guy who gave me info about it said it will work fine with 3D software/games.

"i heard philips has made a 3d tv where without glasses the images come off the screen" ----you mean optimized 120hz refresh rates? yeah its like the most hi-def progressive scan feature EVER. It also makes your movies look like a "Behind The Scenes" featurette. I like watching movies, KNOWING its a movie. Its great for sports, nature shows, etc. BUT--there is one exception to the 120hz movie thing, SPEED RACER. I swear I eyes bled.

I made these same comments at a Republican Dinner Party. People thought I was smart. Next Thing you know, I'm asked to run for VP. Crazy world we live in. One day your daughter is knocked up, because the state you live in is "Boring"---next thing you know, your runnin for US VP. lol. goodtimes.

ChickeyCantor5681d ago

" you mean optimized 120hz refresh rates?"

No optical 3D effect.

Sarah Palin5681d ago

SAMSUNG seems to think so. I saw one at best buy this weekend, when I was picking up How To Run The Country For Dummies.

ChickeyCantor5681d ago

Sarah,

for dummies ey?
Well in that case, How do you think, that you can provide every household with a gaming console in the USA?

Product5681d ago

thats what im saying ...maybe tvs are gonna bring a new tech to software apps.
imagine an imax theater in you home with motion controls.......wow.

Top 10 Games We’re Happy Got Cancelled

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "Sometimes, a game getting cancelled is actually a blessing in disguise that either helps the developer or game series reach new heights with what actually does come next or just saves our time and money by keeping what would obliviously have been a bad time lost forever."

You're happy for the lay offs too?

PiNkFaIrYbOi1737d ago

Why would anyone be happy about any game being cancelled?

1737d ago
0hMyGandhi1737d ago

okay, I'll bite.
I friggin adored Arkane's version of Prey (it's basically the spiritual successor to System Shock that we never got) but I would have loved to see the bounty hunter iteration of the sequel as well, perhaps as it's own IP.

2ndhandcorn1737d ago

Scalebound for me was happy it got canned , the concept seemed picked out of a hat lol terrible.

Knightofelemia1737d ago

That RE title on Gameboy colour looks like an Atari Lynx game

Bring back Project H.A.M.M.E.R.

Destructoid says, "Project H.A.M.M.E.R. was one of those early announced Wii games that never really went anywhere and quietly disappeared. Alongside Sadness, it was the sort of title that stood out from the minigames and gimmicky PS2 ports. Unlike Sadness, there was proof that Project H.A.M.M.E.R. was an actual videogame at one point."

I think Nintendo needs more action oriented games exclusively for the WiiU (like god of war, uncharted, gears of war etc) but Project HAMMER was just a very generic hack and slash imo.

darkgod4334d ago

gears of war is not very fun and its weird cus every one is the size of hulk. and uncharted is not a action game but an 3rd person action adventure. pandoras tower is an action game

CouldHaveYelledUiiW4335d ago

It's not a bad idea, bu I doubt that it satisfies the "Core"-taste. It reminds me more of an old Arcade Style game.
But it would be a Great Downloadable game.

But
I wish they would revive these games 1st:

Retro's Raven Blade
Monolith's Crisis: Day of Disaster (the 1st reason I wanted a Wii)
Silicon Knight's (Rumored 6/2012) Cancelled Eternal Darkness 2.

Instigator4334d ago

Monolith did finish Disaster, but it didn't come out in NA if that's where you live. It was also one of the first games that piqued my interest in the Wii, but sadly the game turned out pretty mediocre with a few shining moments.

It would be pretty cool to see how Retro handles an RPG, though. An exclusive WRPG could do wonders for Nintendo's line-up.

darkgod4334d ago

western rpg games are bad sorry they just dont know how to handle combat story or animation look at skyrim....

CouldHaveYelledUiiW4334d ago

I wish that they would release Crisis as a cheap Down load title the same for Project Hammer.
I would also like to see how Retro would handle an RPG.

@ darkgod
Who says that they wouldn't have help to put them in the right DIRECTION?

frequentcontributor4335d ago

Yeah, all the footage looked really repetitive, and not that original. This game COULD really be a lot more, if they ever revisited it, but I assume they cancelled it for a reason...

ChickeyCantor4335d ago

Consider the fact that it was one of the first games using a wii-mote.

But they could bring it back and change everything now with the gamepad.

JoNaZ_RG4335d ago

When I first saw it I think it was surprising. They should bring it to Wii U

Dravidian4335d ago

I was think that for while, but I never thought someone would agree (though for hilariously different reasons). With all the processing powed the wii U has, they can make a legit AND beautiful brawler/action game now. I mean, my main problem with the original game preview was the physics. The Wii U can handle that and sooooo much more. Almost makes me want to get one at launch. I'll wait though.

The Games that Weren't: Project H.A.M.M.E.R.

At E3 2006, the Wii made its playable-demo debut in anticipation for its launch later that year. A lot of solid titles were previewed in one form or another, including a five-minute demo of a game being developed by Nintendo Software Technology (Metroid Prime: Hunters, Mario vs. Donkey Kong) that looked unlike anything else Nintendo had published to that point.

Instead of any of the established characters that would eventually make up the roster for the then-unfolding Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it starred a hulking cyborg known as M-09 as he made his way through a series of robots armed with only one weapon: a titanic hammer that smashed robots as easily as it smashed everything else. Cars, walls, crates, whatever.

Nintendo always enjoys bringing things from the past to life, it seems.
