Dark Souls Remastered Confirmed For Nintendo Switch, Also Coming To PS4, PC And Xbox One

Dark Souls Remastered was rumored earlier today for the PS4 and today it was confirmed in a Nintendo Direct Mini.

That's great news! It'd be even more stellar if cross play was enabled.
After all, he new addition for the remaster is the ability play 6 player concurrent multiplayer. It'd be a shame if players across PC and Switch, at the very least, couldn't do that.
Might be a thing for XB1.

The fact is that sony has more crossplay games overall. Doesn't matter if its on one platform or another.

Heck ps4 has more crossplay with PC than xbox does which is using a modified version of windows 10. And they can't even get cross play on some windows 10 versions of their games

So far the only one Sony's been willing to go all-in with on the topic of cross play, is PC.
They've been steering clear of cross play with other consoles for the most part, even when devs, like the guys behind Rocket League, asked them explicitly to allow it.

With over 70,000,000 PS4s in the wild, Playstation gamers aren’t really missing cross play.
I guess for a system that’s sold barely half that number it could be an issue though.

Dark Souls was a PS3 game with a resolution of 1024x720 (720p).

The Switch version while docked is already 1080p alongside the PS4 and XB1 versions. Only difference that we know of is framerate is halved.

So why isn't it a remaster?

That all depends on your preferred community. My friends and I have always played Soulsborne games on the PS so that's where we tend to go with every new release. It's all a matter of priorities

@Wallstreet37 - I am merely pointing out that you can't say that PS4 games running at 30fps is fine since that is how all new games seem to run, but them complain when the Switch has to run games at 30fps using inferior hardware. Let's just be happy that the Switch is getting the game. Obviously I would take 60fps any day of the week, but it is what it is with the Switch. I would rather have the game at 30fps than not at all, that is my point. I have a gaming PC with a 1080ti if I really care about FPS.

I will take the game for it's portability aspect alone. Dark Souls on the go? Yes please.

Sony doesn't own the Dark Souls IP. Namco decides what to port and when. I'd rather wait for a DS/Bloodborne remastered collection on PS5. Imagine a 4K/60 HDR version that adds in the rumored missing content from Demon's plus fixes BB's framerate issues. That would be exquisite

no he referenced both, Demon's is Sony and Namco controls Dark. His comment and yours would make sense if Sony owned both but ported over Dark and not Demon. We safely can assume any Souls fan would like a remastered version of the original at this point. I'm alluding that, maybe just maybe Sony has plans to revisit the IP down the road. They however have no control over what Namco does with the Dark IP. A remastered collection for a launch PS5 would sell a lot of systems. Started on PS3, spiritual successor on PS4 and we come full circle on PS5.

I mean if Namco ports Dark over to toasters are we gonna see people complaining about Sony's lack of a Demon port on toasters too?

There was a decent amount of speculation that it would be Demons Souls and I was really hoping it was true but I understand Dark Souls is a bigger cash grab with all platforms for maximum profit. Dark Souls is my favorite and I will easily sink over 1,000 hours into the remaster but it was time for Demons Souls to return. Thought they had something planned for the 10 year anniversary.

Because all we know is that the Switch / PS4 and XB1 versions run at 1080p. The only thing confirmed is that the Switch version runs at 30fps instead of 60. Obviously when it is in handheld mode it can only be 720p, but that's the screen resolution, so you can't complain about that. Plus 1080p on a 6 inch screen wouldn't even be discernible compared to 720p, so doubtful we will see much of a difference.

Yes that is what i am saying, the Nintendo switch has not gotten their online multiplayer in order and that is a rather important part of souls games is playing with others. That is why I wrote what I wrote. If one has to decided between the three, logic would dictate that the switch would not compare to Playstation and Xbox live.

You haven't explained the disagrees, I did not say no one should disagree with me just that I am confused as to why there are disagrees. The people that disagreed just disagreed and did not explain their position, at the very least you had the smarts to articulate a point. The switch does not have its online multiplayer in order, also, "Game releases in May, online could very well be up and running by then." That may very be the case, we could also get invaded by aliens from Neptune or EA could release a game without trying to rob us with Micro-transactions. I have zero faith that Nintendo is going to fix their multiplayer by then....zero.

I didn't say that one should not purchase the game for the switch, but between the three consoles if one would want to play with others without issue, which of the three would be the one that would give you the least amount of grief with online functionality? Why do you come across as feigning ignorance when it comes to the switch and it's online multiplayer?

Nintendo's multiplayer is and was terribly implemented, if you want to play for the switch then that is fine, I am sure it will run decently on that console, but a game like that is just not for the switch just not that powerful to handle it, I imagine it will be an inferior version to the PS4 and Xbox 1.

The main part of dark souls online is anonymous with in game items working to invade or do coop with random people, how would it not work on switch? The others didn't have voice chat or use the consoles online features really.
