Was The Witcher 3 Popular Because It Was Easy?

The developers are surprised the game reached such a large audience but if you consider the obvious accessibility, maybe it was carefully planned.

The witcher 3 is certainly an easy game, but its popular for being the first good "next gen" open world game.

GarrusVakarian3114d ago

Easy? You guys playing on normal difficulty or something? It's no Dark Souls, but on Blood and Broken Bone it can be very challenging.

Compared to most other WRPGs TW3 is easily amongst the most difficult imo.

IIFloodyII3114d ago

At first it can, but once you get a full set of Witcher gear it becomes easy, just don't fight anything with ?? above their head.

decrypt3114d ago

Well you can easily mod the game to become very difficult.

On my second playthrough. I put some mods on the game where i gained levels very fast to start off the game, hence i gained all the skills very quickly.

However i complimented that with another mod that made the monsters scale in a different way as per my level.

Hence i had to use every skill available to me to finish the second play through.

USMC_POLICE3114d ago

I was going to say lol I always start these games on hardest difficulty available, I want a challenge not a free pass.

NukaCola3114d ago

Normal was challenging for me. I am playing on easy.

Ezz20133114d ago (Edited 3114d ago )

Did you try playing Dragon Dogma ?!
That game was something else and it make me sad that no one seems to talk about it at all.

It's tough even on normal
It have amazing gameplay
amazing music
great story
The beasts in that game are incredible and really make at the eadge of your seat while fighting them
By far my favorite open world game
I enjoy it far more than any souls game that also share the same problem with Witcher 3
The gameplay is not very good and stay the same from the start to finish

The problem with Witcher 3 for me is that
it gameplay is not good at all IMO....and it's easy too even on hard at least for me.

The same problem i had with skyrim too is that once you level up enough ..the game become way too easy.

While in dragon dogma..it doesn't matter what your level is
the boss battles will kick your butt soo hard that you will feel it for weeks.

BLOODBORNE > the witcher 3

The Witcher 3 is too easy. Easy and broken game. 17GB+ patch O_o

awi59513113d ago (Edited 3113d ago )

Well compared to witcher 2 its very easy. Most people couldnt kill the first boss of witcher 2 so they had to nerf it.

As a pc gamer I would say even on the hardest difficulty it was still fairly easy.
I think part of a games success is in how it welcomes gamers with all tastes. Normal is way too easy. But I'm disappointed that the hardest difficulty isn't all that hard either.

WellyUK3114d ago

It's easy on every platform once you get the gear and weapons to make it so but the start of the game on Death march is hard and no one can say it isn't.

The reason why Witcher 3 was popular was because it is a very good game with very likable and interesting characters and an Open world that is second to none with side quests that aren't fetch quests.

MeteorPanda3114d ago

oh l guess they never fought a drowner then...

Seafort3114d ago (Edited 3114d ago )

I wouldn't say the game was easy throughout.

It had some tough challenges but it was easy to understand and play.

The world is massive and could be a little overwhelming at first.

I still haven't finished the game as I explore a lot and do many side quests before doing the main story missions.

It's an adventure and I fully intend to explore the world instead of rushing through the story missions like a linear FPS.

kingeliran3114d ago (Edited 3114d ago )

The Game was PURE FUN! not easy not hard just fun, i finished it in death march hardest

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave21d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan21d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name44d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno44d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno44d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure44d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
