I actually dnt think wii u will outsell xbox but as long as Nintendo still has Mario they are ok. Nintendo wii is a weird console with poor 3rd party support because most of the ppl who buy are interested primarily in the first party stuff. Wii needs to drop price substantially for me to consider it though.

Xbox simply must regain ground in US AND UK. At the rate they are being outsold though it might be too late. Price cut and titanfall have done very little to alter the landscape and sony could easily match any Microsoft price cuts. It's just hard to think of how ms can accomplish this. Titanfall behemoth didn't move the consoles they hoped for and it's hard to imagine tomb raider or any other game short of new halo or gears of war moving any consoles. But sony also has it's games to move consoles on the way. Gran turismo, god of war, uncharted etc.

It's hard to see how ms will go about erasing the being outsold 2-1 trend right now. Just a little misstep out the gate and they were left in the dust. Microsoft can come back with some formidable new ips and games but ms would rather spend money on times exclusives and dlc. The leadership is simply too stuck in their x360 smooth sailing days to know how to navigate through the storm they are currently in

PS4 is only 2 million behind the combined sales of Wii U and XBO, and for the year 2014 alone the PS4 has outsold the XBO and Wii combined 5 million > 3.5m. And that's coming from VGChartz

Nintendo's picking up Steam is simply the Wii U getting more AAA games consistently since Year 1 was pretty scattered, and finally getting their bigger franchises. Altogether this means Nintendo might sell around 5 million Wii U's this year instead of 3 million like it sold last year, and could put it in a better position for 2015. The Wii U is doing better, but it's still not a success.

Overall XBO is doing slightly better than the Wii U currently is, and it should peak around 6 or 7 million by the end of the year, depending on the success of it's JP and full EU launch.

The PS4 is the more popular console brand Worldwide as I said in my blog.

Their games haven't lived up to the hype so far. They're good, but they were definitely overhyped.

How do you differentiate between the value of a game like Sunset Overdrive and a game like WiLD? Is it art style? Freedom? Diversity? Scale? The indie games that Sony are supporting and also bringing to PS4 are so diverse in their scope. From a smaller game like Titan Souls ( https://www.youtube.com/wat... ) all the way to a HUGE game like No Man's Sky ( https://www.youtube.com/wat... ) that will have the largest game world ever created.

This umbrella term "indies" is becoming less and less relevant as a focus now since the lines have been beginning to blur for quite some time now. Let's just begin to call them "games". All I see are people downplaying indies, but it's going to become more difficult to do that in 2015 and going forwards.

Nah man indies are still nowhere near retail titles because they don't try to be. A lot of Indies rely too much on the whole "explore our artsy world" thing. What's the actual gameplay like in these games other than walk around, climb some cliffs, appreciate the art style, and some shallow puzzles here and there.

Of course there are exceptions, but can you really say with confidence that hell blade will even come close to bayonetta 2? Or that all those indie platformers are better than a game like DKTF?

I like indies, I just don't consider most of them as good as higher budget titles.

I think most people would rather play a good indie title for $20 or less than a good AAA title for $60 any day. Great games sell no matter how big or small the developer. Then they proceed to reverse pretty much every initial decision made regarding X1 and roll out tons of PR spiel about the cloud, etc. to try boost their rep. Not working for me.

OT: I think it's a bit too soon (about 9 years too soon, seeing as both companies want them to be '10 year machines' or something like that) to say Sony won the generation, but they're definitely off to an incredible start. I do think Microsoft can catch up somewhat, but it'll take a lot.

Sony wins = less support to Xbox one from third party developer. Look at the wii u, it's getting shafted by 3rd party developers due to its lack of appeal and sales. Look at the original Xbox. It couldn't compete against the ps2 therefore developer flocked to the ps2, therefore you should care about who wins early on, because it will determine the number one platform that 3rd parties will side with. No, not necessarily. MS has quite the uphill battle ahead of them, but nothing is impossible. Look at the PS3 last gen; terrible start, but ultimately sold more than the 360 due to its superior hardware and exclusives. Now, considering Microsoft has the weaker hardware again and Sony is starting to get going in terms of exclusives, MS may never be able to catch up. If they are, they best start investing in new studios to make new IPs instead of buying off timed third parties and pray to Zeus that all this cloudzzz talk is true.

Too soon to say they've won the generation.
They've got sales due to the hype from the system's launch, but now they need to show that the games coming to their system can continue the momentum.
If we get more cases of games that are mostly hype and little replay value, it'll be tough to stay in the lead as far as gamers' opinion of them goes, no matter what their sales say.

Gamers are fickle, but generally, they do rate a game appropriately, when it turns out to not live up to its hype.

We are way past launch now and the reason why its still selling so well is because of the games. The Last of Us increasing PS4 sales by 50℅ (along with games like Watchdogs) prove that.

The Last of Us is widely renowned as an excellent game, and PS4 gamers are all about graphics; a remake with better graphics was a no-brainer for sales, so that doesn't really say much to me.

And Watch Dogs has proven to be over-hyped. It's sales are mostly due to the advertisement campaign, which we all know was notoriously over-done.

This 'console war' concept has being going on far too long. I've played pretty much every popular console since my first (an Atari 2600) back in the late 70's, so one thing I'm not is a 'fanboy' of any particular brand. I say this first to make it clear that I'm not a Sony Hater or an 'X-Bot' (hell, I play & ENJOY both & would buy a Wii U if they had a few more good third party titles). Secondly, these arguments have existed since the early 80's, but they seem (to me, at least) more childish now than ever. I don't understand how someones purchase & enjoyment of a brand you don't own hampers your enjoyment of the brand you do own. Can't people just be happy with what they have?

In my area, everyone is either upgrading to a Wii U or Xbox One. I do not know anyone with a PS4, but I understand they are ahead based on folks buying the more powerful console.

There's a lot of question marks for Sony this gen. Which is why it's weird to me how crazy people are about the ps4 and the company itself. I agree they will probably sell the most consoles unless something big happens. But as far as Sony goes its the only one with huge investments that may end up screwing them. Psnow is a big question mark that could end up just being a lost investment. Not so sure about Morpheus either. If they don't execute both perfectly they are gonna lose a lot of money.

It's like people try to ignore that but huge investments that don't break even could end a company in their situation. I'm not trashing on them I love Sony and my ps4. But if those 2 things fail u know the weight of that loss will be put onto us gamers in one way or another. There's no way I'm going for psnow because I kept my ps1. 2 and 3. And all my games. Morpheus will be cool but I just don't see the price being right. Which is why I don't have a vita. I would spend 200 on Morpheus but there is no way it will only be 200 dollars. Probably double that which is why as a Sony fan I'm a bit concerned. It might end up being proof that winning sales wise doesn't really matter if u don't make money

no, the ps4 HASNT won this generation. there is still another 5 strong years ahead which is plenty of time for things to change. if the console war ended right now i would say otherwise but its not. if you look where the ps3 was a year after launch compared to where it is now proves such turnarounds can happen

Clearly all you folks weren't paying attention last gen. Remember when Xbox 360 had a years sale lead on the PS3 and dominated when it came to sales and multiplats. Then the original Wii came out and smoked the both of them in sales numbers. However as you likely know Sony around 2010 started to adopt more consumer friendly policies like PS plus and focused a ton on exclusives. By the end of the gen PS3 outsold 360 and everyone kept complaining the Wii had lost all its lustre which is why it had the shortest lifespan. Long story short if Microsoft and Nintendo try and 1 up Sony then they'll win. Sony only in the lead because after the fuck up that was the PS3's launch they really focused on improving.
