Call of Duty facing a slow death

The Call of Duty franchise may be in a steady decline. According to at least one analyst, sales for the Call of Duty series is slowly but surely slowing down. This latest news has been derived from the sales of the last three Call of Duty titles, Black Ops 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops. All three of these titles have shown a reasonable decrease in total purchases and predictions are showing the latest title, Black Ops 2, is also following suit. (Call of Duty Series, Industry)

500 million in the first 24 hours. Yep, slow death.

The franchise has been carrying on for some time now, so it makes sense it is winding down. Still, there is lots of money being made, so its not going to stop anytime soon.

When next gen comes it's gonna start all over again. This game is basically just what Counter Strike was back in the day. Crack.

I hope not. Visually one can hope they understand the word improvement. the main thing they have going for them is story because other than that gameplay doesn't change much, change is not major in terms of the player's capabilities.

The primary change other than story is the weapons and the perks. How long can a series last on weapons and perks?

Black Flops 2.

But on a serious note, even a decrease still means its selling a shit ton and making a lot of money.

black flops 2, LooL, it's the most selling game on both consoles and the most played on XBL and PSN

COD is still one of the best, if not the best FPS military type franchises. I for one hope it stays

hasn't been the same since 4, even 3 sucked because the minds of IW didn't develop it.

After that issue with Activision many of the minds behind the great CODS (1,2,4) left, according to those who who payed attention at the various times they occurred.

Modern Warfare 2 was EPIC, it and CoD 4 are the best

Title should be "Call of Duty facing a slow, lucrative, death".

People are starting to realize Battlefield and Halo are better

They all have their flaws. i still prefer KZ2 over them all.

There will still be enough sales for each new release to be massively profitable. I wouldn't be overly surprised though if they stop making them at some point over the next few years, or release them less often, while it remains a series that would probably be more profitable than others that could use the cash/time - in-case they get onto another cash cow. CoD could compete with their own sales of a different series that they would want to regain some market share with (from Planetside, Battlefield, Valve).

Good, also the Nuketown fiasco (Like I said in another post) didn't help matters either.

I didn't buy MW3 because i got sick of the franchise every year the same cr@p.... I bought Bo2 just to give it another chance (taking a year off see how it looks then)
and this is the last COD im buying seriously...

I'm a huge fan, but MW3 disappointed me and Black Ops2 has done the same. I trusted Treyarch to deliver, but they failed. Black Ops1 was the peak of the franchise for me. Brilliant maps and just fun overall. It is about as fun as it is going to get for me.

BLOPS 2 is the first COD i've played since COD4. Its actually a very fun and awesome game. I guess it sucks that this title has to be looked down upon because of the Modern Warfare series.

Personnaly I really like blops2, the old school titles, mw2 and the blops series have all been very good.
My only dislike of blops2 is that some of the futuristic elements come off as a bit naff (like the VTOL flybys between mission, remind me of the original cnc/ra win cutscenes lol a bit out of sink with the rest of the game for 2012 AAA title.) the rts style missions are a hash and the snipers and pistols in mp are unbalanced in comparison to other weapons tears(nice to see the shotties and gunners get some love tho)

Vehical rush spoiled battlefield for me.

Some say that an engine preforms it's best just before it dies.
