Whether you think it has a 1950’s sci-fi vibe, or more of a ’70’s disco groove going on, BreakQuest Extra Evolution is like the Rorschach test of video games. With trippy colors, wild shapes, and all kinds of weird reactions going on, you’ll spend just as much time trying to figure out whether one level more resembles Gary from Spongebob or the villain from Samurai Jack. One level’s eye popping orange and purple seems to have taken a direct influence from my daughter’s unfortunate dance uniform, and another seems to be ripped right off the set of Laugh In. Whatever else you can say about BreakQuest Extra Evolution, they certainly put in the time to make the levels unique, and in more ways than just the colors.
Game-Modo’s Travis Blair reached out to Beatshapers, a developer behind several PlayStation games found on various platforms, to learn about a company that seems to really enjoy gaming.
With powerful handheld devices like the PS Vita capable of playing intense console quality games on the go, its refreshing to have titles that are simple pick-up and play and overall, BreakQuest is a freemium title that is a nice companion to have on the go.
I kinda like games like this and Treasures of Montezumna, allowing you to jump in and out for a few mins at a time
With a staggering array of levels – each with their own commendable and challenging design – BreakQuest Extra Evolution is brimming with creative ideas. And though they may not have reinvented the primordial formula, Beatshapers' creation establishes an addictive environment where twitch gameplay reigns and reflexes are king.
