Title should be "We are not milking the NEW SUPER Mario series, cause that's what he's talking about.

Anyway, I agree, there's only ONE New Super Mario Bros game per system, that's not milking at all.

BUT, these games essentially the same thing over again and hardly innovate over their previous installments. They seem like copy-and-paste jobs, which essentially creates the illusion of the series being milked. I think that's what makes most people claim it's milked.

blumatt4281d ago

I think Nintendo might need to look up the word milking then. lol

All jokes aside, even though they're milking Mario, I'm STILL thinking about buying me a Wii U and a copy of Mario Wii U when it launches. I haven't had a Nintendo console since the NES and I think I'm ready to play me some Mario again.

Super Mario on the SNES was my favorite right behind Mario 3 on the NES.

I'm going to get all three consoles this go around most likely.

Sorry this is off topic to your comment Shok but this is a Duplicate article

Says the same things in here

Pushagree4281d ago

Only nintendo could tell thier fans such a blatent lie and get away with it. Mario is the original milked franchise. Companies like activision learned how to milk because of it.

live2play4281d ago (Edited 4281d ago )

super mario 3dland
new super mario bros 2
paper mario 3d

all include mario, so yea mario is milked
BUT
they all play differently

a 2d platformer
an rpg
2d/3d hybrid platformer

yes he is milked
but milking doesnt mean that those games are bad

they are actually all very very fun to play

do all of them innovate? do they all have groundbreaking new ideas? no

but it doesnt mean they are bad
lack of innovation does not equal boring gameplay
(it can, but it doesnt always)

take nsmb2 for example

the look and feel is basically a copy and paste
but its still a ton of fun

it was made by a new team that brought neat ideas to the levels

each level feels different from the others and each have a unique mechanic that makes it stand out

.
.
.
.
now the music in nsmb series is god awful, the game looks bland especially the wii verison

but they actually did change the backgrounds for the 3ds one,
the 3ds version looks far better than the wii one

nsmb2 has night time, dusk time, mountains, auroras, eery dried trees for the ghost levels, even the castles have different insides

this game feels alot like past mario games
it makes sense since it was made by new blood
.
. new people want to do old things
veteran developers want to try new things

stuntman_mike4280d ago

I can see Reggie pulling on that big old teat right now.

only joking i think the 3D console mario's is where Nintendo tend to innovate though.

V0LT4281d ago

Over 200+ Games and games with Mario appearances and that isn't milking?

PopRocks3594281d ago

Because gaming's most recognizable icon doesn't deserve any sort of exposure, right? /sarcasm

Would anyone claim the same thing of the Sonic franchise? At one point they were releasing around three Sonic games a year spanning out on every major platform.

Soldierone4281d ago

Yes, yes I would call Sonic milking. In fact I'm pretty sure every Sonic fan like myself felt alienated by it. You buy a Sonic game and it sucked for the 10th time in a row, you kinda start to second guess buying them.

The difference is SEGA kinda screwed themselves and needed a cash crab, Nintendo isn't in that hole and could be innovating or creating another icon.

mobiusoneac44281d ago

"Nintendo isn't in that hole and could be innovating or creating another icon"

This. It feels like such a waste to keep releasing nearly the same game when they could focus those resources on something else.

Freakazoid20124281d ago

I'm not saying Nintendo doesnt milk Mario but they do have Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, etc. TO pretend all the release is Mario and that they never release any other games is not only false but childish to pretend.

Ult iMate4281d ago

Agreed.

New Super Mario Bros 2
SMB U
Paper Mario 3DS
Mario Kart 3DS
Mario Land 3DS
Luigi's Mansion 3DS
Mario Tennis 3DS
Mario Party 9
Mario & Sonic 2012

And that's for the last year announced and released games of Mario franchise. If that's not milking, then what is it?

1upgamer994281d ago (Edited 4281d ago )

And let me ask you this...how many of them scored at least an 8/10 Oh and Lugi games are not MARIO..

Rrobba4281d ago (Edited 4281d ago )

But those are all either completely different games or at least on different consoles.

NSMB2 and NSMBU are similar but on different consoles. THey are 2D platformers. Paper Mario is more like an RPG. Mario Kart is an arcade racer. Mario Land is a 3D platformer. Luidi'g Mansion is like an adventure game, which features Luigi not Mario anyway. Mario tennis is a tennis game, Mario Party is a mini-game collection and Mario & Sonic is a sports game which IS NOT made by Nintendo, it's made by SEGA.

So, does Nintendo use the Mario CHARACTER a lot? Yes. But they do not milk any individual franchise. Have you ever seen more than 1 Mario Kart game on a single console? No. Same goes for New Super Mario Bros, and many others. Not to mention these games are mostly well rated anyway.

I do agree that they could add some new ideas to their classic games, but ONE game in each franchise per console is NOT milking.

Ult iMate4281d ago (Edited 4281d ago )

@1upgamer99
@Rrobba

Nevertheless that doesn't change the fact, that Nintendo is milking Mario franchise. The franchise doesn't have to consist of games of one genre. The Mario franchise is overmilked.

>>Lugi games are not MARIO..
Luigi is one of Mario brothers. His name is Luigi Mario. So his a Mario alright.

ChickenOfTheCaveMan4281d ago

Was there even a game where this guy was doing actual plumbing in those 200+ games?

Burning_Finger4281d ago

LMAO. It's Beyond milking. It's called "SUCKERS". lol

I stopped playing Mario right after SUPER MARIO WORLD.

linkratos4281d ago

Congrats on skipping Mario 64, Galaxy, and Galaxy 2. Only a real sucker would play some of the greatest games ever.

1upgamer994281d ago

Yeah Mario 64 only the FIRST true 3D platform game EVER...Gosh I guess Nintendo F ed up... and Mario Galaxy only scored a 10 out of 10....

TheRealHeisenberg4281d ago

A lot of major franchises are being "milked" so to speak. Is it really milking if it something that the fans want and end up enjoying?

LOL_WUT4280d ago

Yeah the problem with those games is that they get bashed for being the same thing, while Mario on the other hand gets a free pass. Whoever says that Mario is not being milked needs to pull their head out their a**.

linkratos4280d ago

I still don't understand how you think Mario gets a free pass?

slutface4281d ago

they milk it but they almost never change their formula. nintendo has to step it up with the originality cuz the competition is passing them by while they are still doing the same stale franchises.

from the beach4281d ago (Edited 4281d ago )

FIVE Little Big Planet games since the first one came out in 2008, all of them the same. And a kart racer..

DigitalRaptor4281d ago (Edited 4281d ago )

Yeah. All the same...

LBP - innovation defined.
LBP PSP - a port to strengthen PSP lineup. Decent.
LBP 2 - even more innovation.
LBP Vita - even more innovation, for a handheld.

Where's your fifth?

I wonder if you played them? Likely not.

from the beach4280d ago

The series isn't innovative, it's a flipping 2D platform game! The character doesn't even have so much as a signature move.

The PSP one was more of the same crap - although I'd hasten to add it's not a port of the PS3 game, as you'd know if you played it.

The rest is more of the same crap again and presumably will be again on Vita. I included the Move spin-off as another game, there's also all the DLC they've vomited out over the past four years.

'Crap defined'.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno6d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
