Gamnesia writes: So what exactly does a 'unified platform' for Nintendo mean, and how will it benefit gamers in the future? Nintendo executives like Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto have dropped a few hints as to their current thought process, but I'd like to take it a step further and explore just how much could be accomplished with a true unified Nintendo platform.
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"
Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”
Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever
Nice one ☝️
This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.
No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.
Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.
Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?
Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.
Danish from eXputer: "Nintendo has historically gone against player-made content and emulation of its games. This has done much to harm the company's image."
They need to stop announcing these mods and fan remakes until they're finished. Finish it, upload it, and then if Nintendo dmca's it tough shit. Once it's online, people can share it around, even if the original download gets taken down.
This is all coming from the mouth of short-sighted fandom and grifting madness.
No.... it wont. There is a clear defined reason why they don't. This is nothing new. Make your own shi7 from your own original ideas especially if you are trying to capitalize of it it. Duh.
Yeah, hire people that have zero respect or understanding for an established process. Wow. Yep. Totally makes sense.
If you want to talk to Nintendo, send them a message.
Am I the only person who gets annoyed when people make these presumptuous open letter articles?
I hope Nintendo follows none of these people idea's and makes does something unique and original like I'm used to seeing.
Dear Desk Jockey/author
Please stop trying to tell others how to create their consoles when you have no idea how their internal development processes actually work.

In my opinion, this is how video games trended today & from the past few years:
1) Majority of Hardcore gamers and adult gamers prefer games made for them on Home Console and Home PC for that big game experience.
Winners: PS2, PC, 360, PS3, PS4,
Losers: GameCube & Wii U are full of kiddie games
*Xbox One is losing not because of games but because of negative social perception brought to it by Microsoft themselves.
2) Majority of Casual and Younger gamers prefer games made for them on handheld portable mobile gaming devices.
Winners: PSP, DS, 3DS, Smartphones, Tablets
Losers: PS Vita because it tremendously lacks games for the casual and younger gamers and its kiddie unfriendly cost of memory cards.
I hope both Nintendo and Sony learn their lessons on how to deliver the right games for their right platforms.
Nintendo or Sony unifying game development on their home or mobile platforms would really be good for everyone. As it will ease up game development time, money and effort.
I really hope ARM Architecture catches up with PC X86 Architecture soon so that most video games, no matter how big, can be played on any screen-mobile or home, small or big. When this happens Nintendo or Sony can have their games playable anywhere.
ExtremeTech believes that AMD is developing a hybrid processor, wherein its x86 and ARM cores will be working side by side on the same chip. This will give AMD an upper hand, and allow it to introduce a modified ARM-based chip for the Windows PC environment.

They want you to pay twice.
Nintendo is the reason why console gaming seems relevant for me, they do unique things that the other 2 dont do yet or arrive doing it later anyways, like motion controls.
