Nintendo M&A: Reasons why N should Acquire Sega

Nintendo is now officially open to the idea of “mergers and acquisitions”, which is potentially a big deal. Given their position in the games market, they probably won’t do anything drastic, though its fun to speculate. One of the more popular ideas that has been floating around the internet for some time is that Nintendo should outright acquire Sega. There are several benefits to this course of action, listed as follows:

"It would be like unveiling Half-Life 3, multiplied by a thousand."

That seems like a very unfitting comparison.

badz1493745d ago

yup...very unfitting and NO, this will never happen, at least not anytime soon! What Nintendo should do now is strengthen their relationship with 3rd parties worldwide. Merging with Sega would be a pointless move now as Sega doesn't have any killer IP in their arsenal anymore thus will put an unnecessary burden to their financial.

GenHero3745d ago

no killer IPs? are you forgetting that Sega bought Atlus? you think Persona isn't a killer IP?

badz1493744d ago

What I meant by killer IP is an IP that sell millions upon millions and can move consoles. Atlus is a great dev and Persona is an amazing IP but as far as sale is concerned, it's not a huge seller and I doubt it is capable to move console from shelves like MH or FF which are what I categorize as killer IPs.

We'd love to see that i'm sure there are many franchises on the SEGA that would be a sweet addition to the Nintendo library like Bayonetta.

No_Limit3745d ago

Just for the chance of seeing Sega characters in a new Smash Brothers is good enough for the dream of a merger.

grassyknoll3745d ago

Sega makes a lot off money from PC games. Football Manager & Total War would not translate well to Nintendo's machines.

Madock3745d ago

Very true, i think Capcom's IPs will suit the console business better
Street fighter is old school and got it's fans, Resident evil for the hardcore, Monster hunter to join X in the MMO market
& of course Megaman!!

Loadedklip3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

Agree with the Capcom comment.

Capcom would be a better buy for Nintendo.

Mega Man
Street Fighter
____Vs Capcom series
Resident Evil
Monster Hunter
Devil May Cry

These five have a hardcore following and appeal that Nintendo lacks.

But they will also need some more western developers or have Retro Studios become bigger so they can work on multiple projects at once.

Platinuum Games is the other that Nintendo should look into buying if possible. Not sure they would be interested considering they left Capcom for a reason.

badz1493744d ago (Edited 3744d ago )

Nintendo buying Capcom? Lol not gonna happen! Capcom as a company has too much pride to let itself be bought by Nintendo or any other companies for that matter. The most Nintendo could do with Capcom is paying exclusivity for certain games, nothing more!

You guys seem to forget that Nintendo secured the RE series for themselves back in the day only for Capcom to break that exclusivity deal because their games are not selling that many copies on the GC. While MH4 is doing solid numbers in Japan, it's nothing to brag about from a worldwide perspective. And with the Wii dead and Wii U not doing well almost everywhere, do you really think that Capcom would want to Risk selling any of their game exclusively on Nintendo's platform over the more lucrative market on the Xboxes and Playstations? I don't think so!

The machine is yet but a tool with which to build your games on. A blank canvas that a artist creates his masterpiece.

PSWiiKing3745d ago

As long as Nintendo owns Sonic the Hedgehog IPs, I'm straight. Plus it might pave the way of putting SEGA Master System, SEGA Genesis, SEGA Game Gear, SEGA CD, SEGA 32X, SEGA Saturn, and SEGA Dreamcast back-catalogs in future Nintendo Consoles and Handhelds. Even better, bring SEGA back to the Hardware Race as a spin-off.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.
