Dear Samus - Four Reasons Why the Metroid Series Rules

Mike writes, "2014 marks 8 years since the last proper game in the series; Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. For reference, this is the same time gap between Super Metroid in 1994 and the series's triumphant return in 2002 with Metroid Fusion on the Gameboy Advance and Metroid Prime on the Gamecube. With only a couple of exceptions (Other M and Metroid Prime: Hunters), this series has been pretty much nothing but five star titles. There are really only a handful of franchises out there with the pedigree of something like Metroid."

Super Metroid is just a masterpiece, the best 2D game ever IMO..pure atmosphere , Metroid Prime is almost as good

"In the reaches of space, below the surface of planet Zebes, Samus Aran faced the Space Pirates. She destroyed their operation, wiped out the parasites called "Metroids", and defeated Mother Brain. But the Pirates were far from finished." *BADASS THEME OF METROID PRIME PLAYS*

it's a shame Other M had broke the otherwise most flawless run of any video game franchise.
Metroid - simply astonishing as a child, very hard, and i still remember finally beating the game and being the only one at my school who was able to do so, people treated me like a VG master thanks to it XD
Metroid 2 - added depth to the series despite the linearity, one of the best GB games gameplay and graphic-wise.
Super Metroid - no words can describe the sheer amount of awesome.
Metroid Fusion - Midway between Super/Metroid and Metroid 2, one of the best stories in videogames, awesome artstyle and gameplay, my personal favorite (been waiting for Metroid 5 for 11 years now!)
Metroid Zero Mission - first remake i had played that i actually thought was better than the original, the gameplay is so damn smooth and getting all the abillities at the end makes you feel so indestructable with those buttery controls.
Metroid Prime - same as Super Metroid, but to a bigger extent ^^
Metroid Prime Hunters - hands down the best controls in any shooter period. although the SP wasn't the best the MP was simply amazing, all the features of console FPSs (including voice chat!) + more on a handheld made it stand out.
Metroid Prime 2 - very interesting concept, execution was almost flawless and it packed a challenge and i loved every bit of it.
Metroid Prime 3 - Wiimote controls rivaled PC mouse and keyboard accuracy, the hunters added a big layer of depth to the series (there's a lot of untapped potential in those guys), and graphics rivaled PS360 games due to the fantastic execution the sub-series is known for and the Wii's added power compared to GC.

You forgot Metroid Prime Pinball XD

mohuzas3740d ago

well it's a spin-off game that retells the story of Prime through classic pinball :P

I'm in total agreement, except for Hunters. I appreciate what they tried to do with the DS controls but it just didn't click with me.

Actually, the last proper metroid game was Metroid Fusion. So, I'm waiting for Metroid 5,on my 3DS. A classic. A sequel to Fusion in the same vain as Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.

Fusion did a great job at it. Really love that horror feel with metroid. I mean you are completely alone on alien planets filled with horrific monsters and toxic environments.
