In recent years the video games industry has been dogged by accusations that it is too male-dominated and even sexist – but top Valve animator Christine Phelan has little time for such talk.
Fan projects Team Fortress: Source 2 and Portal 64 have shut down after Valve intervened in their development.
First they open Steam up to more AI, now they are shutting down fan projects when at one time they used to support or even give the fans jobs.
Wonder what's going on with Valve at the minute.
There's potential that Valve had already planned to bring Source 2 to TF2 officially after Counter Strike 2. It's been getting some renewed attention lately.
You got Nintendo to thank for Portal64 being taken down. As for TF2, most likely it's due to the probability of Valve working on a source 2 port themselves. It's sucks but Nintendo are the biggest pricks in the business and not letting this drag out into a huge court drama is the best decision.
Valve has updated its stance on AI games on the Steam storefront, allowing creators to publish AI-created games.
Hell no. I want games that have been made by creative minds who have a passion for their craft, not a bot with a penchant for plagiarism.
So instead of paying for an engine and assets to create a game they are paying for an engine and assets to create a game.
Valve has officially warned against inhaling the Steam Deck vent fumes in an official response due to potential health hazards.
Wow people will huff anything nowadays some people just have way too much time on their hands.
Another reason to love the PlayStation Portal, no chance of breathing in noxious vapors.
Get a Steam Deck they said, to which I reply, what are you high?
Nice to see a story not calling the industry sexist for once!
cops, carpenters, electricians, neurosurgeons, nuclear physicists, firemen, garbage men, the military, archietects, lawyers, boat captins, and many, many more are all male dominated industries
so what, more men apply for those jobs and are qualified for those jobs, if the market was flooded with qualified and willing women for those jobs, there would be more women in them, its simple, same with the game industry
"insert blatantly obvious comment about how amazing valve is here"
“At the end of the day I am the work I produce, not a pair of boobs,”
Lmao I'm sorry but you will always be a pair of boobs, that's the way it is. Now show them to me pls or I will slap you
I am a software developer. I have a degree in Computer Science and in my college class, there were about five females and about 30 males. I am from Ireland and a high grade in maths in the leaving certificate (exams at the end of high school) is a requirement for a place in a good Computer Science course in University. Now of course women are no worse than men at maths but they just don't have the same interest. In the higher level maths class in high school, it was also predominantly male. Women seem to be more interested in areas such as medicine, teaching, nursing and business. It is unfortunate but fact. Actually due to such a shortage of female software developers, companies are crying out for them, including those in the games industry. Now I wouldn't call that sexism.
