The Day I Said Goodbye To My PS3

Toshi Nakamura writes " I purchased my glossy black partner on January 30th, 2007. Since then it has run over 50 PS3 games, a bunch of PS2 and PS1 games, and probably hundreds of Blu-ray and DVD movies."

Why some journalists write a funeral article when his/her console dies?....no 1 cares lol

Neckbear4198d ago

They aren't journalists, just bloggers masquerading as such.

NukaCola4198d ago

@ Neckbear

This is the way it's going. I can bet you about 90% of the 'journalists' in the media do not have 1/10th of 1% of a credit in any school certifying them to report. They almost all are bloggers. The handful of them out there are left because they have been doing this a long time.

BTW Adam Sessler is back on Revision3. It's cool to see him out again. And he is doing things much better than what G4 was doing. Also with have a new 'soapbox' each week.

guitarded774198d ago

Sure, most are bloggers, and many spread a lot of BS rumors or non-news stories, but every once in awhile these smaller sites (blogs) will break a big story, or get confirmation of something, which leads the big sites to follow. It may be few and far between, but they serve a purpose. A blog post really isn't too different than an editorial in a major publication. I just wish all bloggers would take some journalism classes to understand what it means to be responsible.

Diver4198d ago

cause its kotaku writing another anti-sony hit piece.

the sun rises in the east, politicians all lie, kotaku willing to print anything that shows sony in a bad light. how predictable

SilentNegotiator4198d ago

Reported as lame. What does ONE "journalist's" system dying have in value for the N4G community?

DragonKnight4198d ago

I'll say it to my last breath. Vote Kotaku down. Just look at the stats here. 5 people retweeted this post. 150 gave it a +1 on google. You people complain about these articles but don't do anything about it. Click on the + beside kotaku.com. Click on WTF? for Story Quality and No for "Do you like this website" and keep doing it every time you see a kotaku article. That's the only way their news will be blocked permanently.

I don't understand how so many of you can group together to get hiphopgamer banned and yet do nothing but whine about kotaku articles when you have options to be rid of them.

My launch PS3 died a week ago. I have the opportunity to write about it. But it's a piece of electronics. I bought a new one and that was the end of it. Do you want to hear more stories like this? No? Then frickin' vote Craptaku down.

chaos_mechanica4198d ago

Kotaku has been nonstop with the PS3 articles, the vast majority being negative opinion pieces. It's getting tiring.

3-4-54198d ago

Yea....Real Journalists have integrity and morals.

ziggurcat4198d ago

@ DragonKnight:

done and done. will keep doing that for every kotaku article i see on this site from now on.

pixelsword4198d ago

What? Why was HHG banned?

DragonKnight4198d ago

@ziggurcat: Good, hopefully many more will do the same.

@pixelsword: Why do you think? For his flamebait titles, his opinion articles written as though they were fact, for having his friends boost his articles through the approval process. Take your pick.

pixelsword4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

"Why do you think? For his flamebait titles, his opinion articles written as though they were fact, for having his friends boost his articles through the approval process. Take your pick."

How does that differs from every other site on here?

People always say PS3 fanboys run this site but it's funny that the biggest PS3 fan that had a site gets banned while kotaku steadily dumps on the PS3 and gets hits and when "bad" PS3 news comes out every no-name site come in and dumps too.

There were sites that got upset when PS3 games got a bad score, but you never saw them headline because they failed as stories time and again, but lo and behold, Halo 4 gets bad scores and the N4G headlines are flooded with how halo getting a bad score was what was wrong with the gaming industry.

I think his love of the PS3 was a part of it, but all of these wannabe bloggers got very upset when he got his own PS3 show and his own skin with the WWE belt in home and wanted him off the site when a big-name site picked him up.

That's also probably why people are saying this site has had a slide in quality as well: people who really care about this site are constantly shoved aside for the whiners and now they are banned from the site, parts of the site, or got tired of being kicked around for no reason.

DragonKnight4198d ago

@pixelsword: I'm not saying anything is different. I'm just saying that people viewed hiphopgamer as the height of flamebait reporting, lack of facts, and pretty much making up stuff to get hits and attention. Coupled with the very real fact that he did get members of his site to boost his articles through (which I'm sure is frequent for most sites), and people complained to have him banned. In all seriousness, I think that Kotaku is worse than he ever was and it surprises me how they're still around.

pixelsword4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

Edit:

"lack of facts, and pretty much making up stuff to get hits and attention."

I agree; but was not gametrailers REPEATEDLY caught switching PS3 and 360 vids to make 360 games look better? Did HHG do anything that bad? How about when Destructoid (I think or some other site) Rated The 360 FF game HIGHER than the PS3 game in Graphics?

Yeah, I know about the whole HHG and Insomniac and bungie thing, but how mad could IG be if they allowed him to interview them last month?

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

P.S.

Although I personally noticed an easing-up on stuff like that, but people still talk.

_DragonSlayer_4197d ago

If I knew how to write a great article, I would title it the day I said goodbye to kotaku..

Most people are coming here thinking it`s someone trashing the PS3.

Getowned4198d ago

I thought he was going to say he said "goodbye ps3" and got a 360, and bashed the PS3. Well, this what I expected on N4G. Lol

SilentNegotiator4198d ago

Because it needs to be reported so that REAL news and/or opinion pieces with any real worth can replace it on the top news section.

FACTUAL evidence4198d ago

" It may not be able to run PS2 games, it may not have multiple data card slots, it may only have 2 USB ports, it may not be able to eject a disc automatically, but inside, it contains all the data my old PS3 was able to bequeath and it's still a proud new member of my gaming family."

That's from the article. What does he mean slim can't eject disc automatically?....Does he even own a playstation 3?..

pixelsword4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

Yeah; you have to own one to know that.

Hey Dragon, See what I mean? If HHG said the same thing, like 44 articles or something like that would have been made to complain about him.

Kotaku does it and the only people who will complain are experienced gamers that are perceptive.

Sony won't call them out because they think Kotaku counts somehow; but HHG is pretty much fair game in the industry I see. I don't think gametrailers were ever called out although they took a full day or two to respond to one and they didn't even bother after a while.

Kind of reminds me of Bioshock; they rightly got slammed for porting a poor looking PS3 game; in the end FF for the 360 was rated higher than the PS3 game even though it was a vastly inferior product in comparison.

No one called for the heads of those sites who rated FF for the 360 the same or higher.

Justice isn't so blind after all.

Slayer_xXx4198d ago

you say no1 cares yet alot of ppl click on this article still lol

RickHiggity4198d ago

At least he didn't bury the damn thing. lol

Psycho_Mantis4197d ago

Because they think this is facebook.

TheRealSpy4197d ago

correction...clearly people do care or it wouldn't be top article.

It's just that when a PS3 dies, you have 123409812734 apologists making excuses for sony. When a 360 dies, it's a celebration by the very same people.

I can't empathise because my PS3 is still working; however I can sympathise. My electric toothbrush gave out the other day. Sad times.

yesmynameissumo4198d ago

I can empathize. My launch 60GB died last year and I did exactly what the author did...bought another PS3.

kayoss4198d ago

My launched ps3 has turned into Frankenstein. It over heated about 2 years ago so I took it apart did some modifications to get more air into the system. Now it has 4 fans to keep it cool and a whole bunch of LED lights to keep it alive. Currently it is still running, but i now have 2 extra ps3 for backup purposes.

Britainz-Fin3st4198d ago

Mine died about 6 months ago so i bought a slim.

wishingW3L4198d ago

why do people submit and approve articles from Kotaku when they are so bad?

r214198d ago

Agreed, waste of time articles usually. Rarely do I see an article from Kotaku which was focused on gaming.

first1NFANTRY4198d ago

no one cares lol. all hardware are bound to fail at some point

glennco4198d ago

except the n64, the only console to have a lifetime warranty :)

chasegarcia4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

I would bet my money on it that most fat ps3 would would die soon or are already dead. The fat version was a pos because of the lead free design, cheap blu ray lens, weak fan, etc.

Persistantthug4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

Why?
Because not all PS3 Fats are created equal.

Launch 20 and 60GB units were created with hot 90nm CPU and GPU fabs.

But later 2007 PS3s, such as my 80GB unit, have the cooler running 65nm CPU and GPU.

Also Sept of 2011, I changed my Thermal paste (I used Arctic Silver 5 ) and now it runs like the first day I bought it. I even leave my PS3 on sometimes for weeks at a time.

Currently, my PS3 is on, and I haven't turned it off for 4 or 5 days.

chasegarcia4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

I know about the different versions. Again, they are pos. I had both 80gb with ps2 bc & the 40gb with improvements. Both are now dead. I did all that thermal paste reflow stuff.Yours will die soon. I would sell it now and get the slim. I am just trying to help. Not a hater.

MrDead4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

I did the same with my fat 80gb, took it to bits cleaned it out and put some new thermal past on the CPU & GPU and now it’s back to silent running. It’s like PC's if you don't give them some tlc eventually they die.

I also removed the fabric strip that cleans the discs on the blu-ray as it was starting to sag and being fed into the drive when I inserted a game, after 5 years of constant use I’m not surprised that happened.

Persistantthug4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

Your PS3 FAT died because you waited until it broke to fix it.
You were supposed to change your paste BEFORE it had problems. PREVENTATIVE MAINTENCE would have saved your PS3.
Lots of people, including yourself don't understand this.

If you're trying to get an understanding of what I'm referring to,
Go to the 6 minute mark of this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

New Thermal Paste BEFORE it breaks....that's the key.
My PS3 is 4 years old next month btw. Runs like new :)

Britainz-Fin3st4198d ago

Ermmmm we are meant to not have to do anything my friend.

DarthBigE4198d ago

mine was overheating within 10 mins of turning on, but i opened it and cleaned out all the dust about a year ago. I have thermal paste, but im afraid i would just break it if i try to replace it. What are your thoughts? It runs good for about an hr then it gets kinda loud and its kinda hot when i touch it, but i think thats normal.

SonyStyled4198d ago

i bought my 60gb in march of 2007. i do everything the owners manual said to do to it like vacuum the dust out of the vents weekly, keep all sides 10 cm away from objects to ensure propper cooling, not expose it to cigarette smoke etc etc. it runs like the day i bought it. like a dream. my friends fat 160gb hasnt quit. my other friends 60 gb hasnt quit. the only friends ps3 that i know quit is the friend that smokes. poor things choking on cigarette smoke. so you know, i would bet money that the majority of fat ps3 are still in our entertainment centers

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow4d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo1823d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie3d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

Hereandthere3d ago

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

ApocalypseShadow2d ago

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

OtterX4d ago

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney2d ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

RNTody4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno3d ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno3d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

3d ago
fsfsxii3d ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno3d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
