Bryan Le writes, "When OUYA was first revealed, it sort of blew everyone's mind. Raising nearly 10x the amount of its fundraising goal, the tiny portable-that-could raised roughly $8.6 million, proving to everyone that the OUYA's existence was very real, and that it had the potential to be more than just a niche, hobby gadget for open-source enthusiasts to tinker with. Could it just be that maybe, just maybe, a new challenger would emerge to compete with the likes of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo? In a market dominated by three well-established brands, could there be room for a fourth…maybe even more?"
From systems that could keep your beer cool, to oddities trying to get in on the popularity of VHS and laserdisc, you’ve got some very, very weird video game consoles out there.
I had the LaserActive... it was a nice collectors piece but not very practical. Especially when it came to needing recapping. I think i paid all of about $50 for the floor model from an incredible Universe back in the day. I ended up selling it many years later for $300 at the time due to it needing a new laser and the aforementioned recapping.
An honorable mention not on the list would be the VM Labs Nuon. It basically looked like any regular DVD player but it had ports on it for controllers to play specific games. one of which is still exclusive to it with Tempest 3000. It also offered nuon enhanced DVD movies with extra content not accessible by regular players.
Starting in mid-February, a planned update to the NVIDIA Games app will begin rolling out to SHIELD owners. With this update, the GameStream feature will no longer be available. SHIELD users can continue to use GameStream until that time.
For sometime, I'd been contemplating getting a Shield to replce my Steam Link hw as the Shield is a more capable 4K/60 device for streaming. Happy they notified us before I finally decided to pull the trigger on getting one.
The firmware update 8.2.2 for Nvidia Shield with some interesting changes is now available for download. It is now possible to use the controllers of the PS5 and Xbox Series X on the device. Further details can be found in the message.
It's nice to have the support. But without the unique functions of the DualSense I wouldn't go for it unless you already have a PS5 laying around. As there are many other controllers compatible with the system that will also cost much less.
Just ordered my Shield T.V (new tube looking one), coming tomorrow, it should pair nice with my pc. This is great news as I have both PS5 and Xbox controllers no need to buy another controller.
I'm just wondering if their markets will be flooded with free crapware. Has there been any interesting games that started life on Android systems?
