Footage Of Microsoft Employee Trying To Sway People At Wii U Best Buy Event

We heard rumours earlier this week that suggested that Microsoft had begun sending representatives to the Wii U Best Buy events in an effort to sway gamers to get an Xbox One. Now footage has surfaced of the company doing this exact thing at an undisclosed Best Buy store in North America. Seems as though he wasn’t expecting the response he got.

Not sure if this is actually Microsoft arranged (seems too stupid that they would make him wear a shirt that actually says Microsoft on it), but if true this is real low.

iGAM3R-VIII4000d ago (Edited 4000d ago )

Agreed, I don't think it is true though since the MS employee is wearing a bag or knapsack on him, but if it is true, MS have gone to the extreme and a bit to far to persuade people, it really would be on a whole new low.

BUT he did give the people PERFECT reasons TO actually BUY a WiiU lol

papashango4000d ago (Edited 4000d ago )

I don't see him doing anything wrong here...

just another rep at a big box store. How is this bad?

loulou4000d ago

lol i doubt that was real

probably few fanboys from n4g doing this is more likely

iGAM3R-VIII4000d ago

@loulou are you hating, how and why would someone of N4G, make up this story, then go to BestBuy with a MS shirt and do this. That is a total waste of time.

Mounce4000d ago

@Papashango - You have to begin seeing it for what it is.

Misinformation being spread as Damage Control by Reps.

And Sabotage of Nintendos' attempt to try to reach out to their fans. It's despicable, desperate and pathetic.

3-4-54000d ago

it's been reported at multiple locations...not just this guy..

Dagobert3999d ago

You know these reps of either Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo usually do go to stores with a backpack since they carry their laptops etc. in them. Not sure how that seems unbelievable for a rep to wear a backpack.

UnHoly_One3999d ago

"despicable, desperate and pathetic"

Seriously?

It's freaking ADVERTISING.

I swear, if Microsoft developed a game that could cure cancer there would be an article on here about it, and people in the comments bitching because it wasn't multiplatform and MS was this terrible company. (And they would have 9 to 1 ratio of agrees to disagrees)

It's ridiculous. I get that you guys would walk a mile through broken glass to kiss Sony's feet but come the fuck on, seriously?

If they want to pay some people to advertise their console what is the big goddamn deal? If this was a Sony rep at an Xbox event, you guys would be whooping and hollering and cheering them on, filling the comments with LMAO's and every other damn thing. But MS does it and it's this huge terrible thing. Gimme a break.

I'm no huge supporter of the XB1, but the fanboy hypocrites on this site are out of control. Seriously guys. Stop and think about things from the other side before you jump on the hate bandwagon next time.

Angry Joe interview with Microsoft , almost a fight was going to start ! LOL

http://youtu.be/6RtSGFryKwo

Bzone244000d ago

Umm, people were talking to him. He doesn't really seem like he's trying to sell anything. He just commented on what they said.

It's so funny that a vast majority of the negative news on the Xbox One on this site isn't really anything but an attempt to trash Microsoft. And most people on here just lap it up.

KillrateOmega4000d ago

If you have a problem with all the negative Xbox One news, then go out and try to find some positive news for it and then submit said news.

cr33ping_death4000d ago

Microsoft is doing a good job at trashing itself.

Realplaya4000d ago

BUT you don't see when he walked up and the convo started. So how can you assume anything. My guess is he tried to sale on the benefit of the xbone they do it all the time at best buy.

Bzone244000d ago

@Killrateomega
Thing is that any news regardless if it's negative or positive or even not news like this video is made into negative by people that don't want to be left out of the trashing of Microsoft. Gotta follow the flock I guess.

@Realplaya
Lol. You say how can I assume anything and then your very next sentence is an assumption.

Realplaya4000d ago (Edited 4000d ago )

@ Bzone24 I said my guess also when connect came out had two different reps trying to get me to stand on the carper and jump up and down for that game where you are in a f=raft going down a water course. So you are wrong a representative tried to sale me and others on the kinect.

Bzone244000d ago

And I said it seems.

Did I ever say a rep didn't try to sell you a Kinect when it came out?

n4f4000d ago

its use to be wiiu not the wind is turn toward xbone

S2Killinit4000d ago

if you dont get what it is that upsets gamers, then you will not get it. Stay with an xbox one, I hope you have friends with PS4s so that you can gauge the difference down the line.

Death4000d ago

There is no positive news or negative news. The stories here at n4g are mostly bs and misinformation intertwined with opinion pieces based on rumors or sheer hatred for anything not Sony.

The PS4 with its PC architecture and subscription based online service is an Xbox. The only thing Sony in the PS4 is the blu-ray drive and now that it is the standard format it's in the Xbox too. Playstation fans are embracing everything they stood against for the last three generations. I would imagine next gen when Sony catches up to the XboxOne Sony fans will love it too. I remember Sony fans swearing up and down it was horrible to have broadband only, a standard HDD and paid online. now that Sony dropped custom chips like the Emotion Engine and Cell, the only difference setting them apart is the ram. Microsoft chose CPU ram and Sony went with GPU ram. Different speeds with different latency, neither best for doing everything.

ironfist923999d ago

He's a MS rep, he gets paid to do his job which is to market Microsoft products. Hate the Xbox One as much as you want, why would you dislike the man for doing his job?

RedHawkX3999d ago

dude the xbox one sucks. what do you not understand about that? the ps4 is just better and thats the fact of the matter. so why you trying to fight a battle already lost? join the ps4 side and all your stress will go away

DragonKnight4000d ago (Edited 4000d ago )

This doesn't seem to be legit. He seems very unprofessional in the sense that he looks like he's chilling out and is more of an MS fanboy than a rep from the company. Then again, maybe that's what MS wanted, but the guy seems disinterested in actually "selling" the Xbox One. There are better salesmen on this site alone.

TOSgamer4000d ago

Since he's not actually selling anything and hence there is no measurable way to judge his performance he doesn't have to work hard.

DragonKnight4000d ago

He may not have actual items to sell, but that doesn't mean he can't sell the X1 to people. What I'm saying is that he doesn't seem to be trying to be convincing the way a paid professional would be.

TOSgamer4000d ago

He's probably a temp event staffer that's doing a one day job. I doubt he gives a damn whether MS sells consoles or not.

Death4000d ago

Hmm...someone at a BestBuy with a shirt that says Microsoft on it. It has to be a spy trying to sell a console not available yet crashing a competitors event. It's not like Bestbuy sells PC's running Microsoft Windows, or tablets from Microsoft. Can't be there to help with Microsoft Office or any of the other programs currently available. A Microsoft MVP maybe or just someone who is fan? Nah, has to be something else...

TXIDarkAvenger4000d ago

Must be stupid to think this is real.

Spookshow4000d ago

Why is that Microsoft employee wearing a bra?

Spenok4000d ago

As someone who has worked in a big box retail store (Frys Electronics) and managed a dedicated gaming retail store (GameCrazy), which both had representatives of the big 3. They always wore shirts to represent who they work for, (Why wouldn't they?) I even worked at T-Mobile for a year. And cell phone company reps came in almost monthly. From Blackberry to Samsung, to HTC (They came in the most often) to even Nokia. All wore company shirts.

Not only does this tell people who they work for, but it also makes it easier to spot someone who "knows" what they are talking about when it comes to the product they are promoting. [Just to be fair I say "knows" because they often hire people who are just looking for a job, and give them a crash course on the products and information. I.E. NOT ACTUAL GAMERS. Though they do hire gamers here and there. (I have obviously looked into this job, even considered it when GameCrazy went under)].

This is more than likely real.

I obviously cannot prove it, as I didn't make the video. However there is NO reason to think otherwise.

I can understand why you might think that if you have never seen a company rep. But how about this, think of when you go into, lets say best buy, like the video. And go to the computer section. Have you never seen a rep for one of the computer manufacturers? Or even say Norton or AVG. Or maybe in the cell phone department, you see reps there all the time. Company reps almost ALWAYS wear shirts from the company they work for.

Godmars2904000d ago

Actually, kind of odd that this is the exact same guy who shown whenever this story comes up.

Might be the only instance of it, the only time someone had or thought to use their camera, but still.

-Superman-3999d ago

You blind? Look at t-shirt, it says: Microsoft

fuego6243999d ago

crazy part is this happened at the best buy in manchester ct. i work there and can confirm this is the microsoft rep i even talked to him and he was sent to promote xbox1.

whoyouwit043999d ago

This isn't true, I am 100% positive because I have 3 family members that work at best buy and game stop and they are always getting those shirts from microsoft. I can't remember the reason they get them, but I think it had something to do with how many 360's the store ordered; like I said I'm not sure why they get them but I can guarantee this was just in Xbox fan boy, and that's is fact.

AKR4000d ago

I was wondering if anyone had any footage.

Lol @ the guy saying: "I don't want the SpyBox in my house."

Honestly Microsoft, the even if "most of the information of the spying features is kept on the actual XBOX" - as your representative said in the video, the DRM and no-used games, as well as the 24 hour check-in and mandatory Kinect still squashes the value of buying a $500 machine.

Overall - this was a really sad attempt to draw attention to your console. It would have been better to have your own event instead of trying to rain on someone else's parade. But then again, it's not like what you're offering is quality so . . .

MNGamer-N4000d ago

This guy just seems more interested in the Nintendo Games than pushing his Xbox agenda.

Moonman4000d ago (Edited 4000d ago )

"as neat as it looks, I don't want the spybox in my house"!!!! hahahaha

Microsoft sinks to new lows. Remember this song xbone owners:

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Theyellowflash304000d ago

This is low of Microsoft, and honestly I think it's going to get more people to buy Wii U's and PS4's if they're resorting to these type of tactics.

10 Biggest Xbox Mistakes of All Time (So Far)

The Xbox brand has done a lot of good over the years, but their various blunders are pretty wild to look back on in their magnitude.

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies4d ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX4d ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody4d ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

FinalFantasyFanatic3d ago

I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.

rob-GP4h ago

@FinalFantasyFanatic "They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo..."

lol, you mean:

NES, SNES
GameBoy, GameBoy Advanced, GameBoy Colour, GameBoy SP
DS, DSi, DSXL
3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL
Wii, Wii U
Switch, Switch OLED

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_4d ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga4d ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

FinalFantasyFanatic3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.

Rainbowcookie2d ago

Yeah but the one that was "bad" didn't even affect sales.

bunt-custardly4d ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga4d ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit4d ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic3d ago

The 360 was the brand in its prime though, everything went downhill towards the end of that generation. Its staple games like Halo, Forza and Gears are what kept the console relevant and afloat for so long.

MaximusPrime_4d ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21834d ago (Edited 4d ago )

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies4d ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.

Great news it shows that Nintendo intends to continue developing ports of AAA games to its next gen platform

Buying studios from embracer now is a great deal, they must be dirt cheap at this point, Nintendo is a opportunist, they wait until someone fall so they get their best deal

OtterX8d ago

That is some serious brain gymnastics you have going on there. 🤔

I didn't do any gymnastics I can assure you, honestly I don't know why you think that, not hating I seriously don't see why you think that

ZeekQuattro8d ago

Yeah I don't know where that came from. It's rare for Nintendo to flat out aquire studios. Guess they were trying to be edgy but why flex on this studio. 🤣

At least they are safer from layoffs with Nintendo then any other company

I hope someone buys Piranha Bytes, their future isn't looking good right now. I love their RPGs, they're janky as f***, but they have heart and soul.

It takes a people to program the AI then that AI is used for who knows how many games eliminating countless jobs which only grows as AI is used for more and more game creation functions.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead8d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan8d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in

helicoptergirl8d ago

Takes "hand holding" in games to a whole new level.
