GamePro Give Mass Effect: 4.75 "frontrunner for Game of the Year honors"

It's been an amazing year for gamers as a veritable avalanche of quality games have hit store shelves in the past few months. But while all of them are worth playing, only a few have what it takes to rise to the top and attain "must own" status. And not only is the latest title from acclaimed developer Bioware a "must own" title, it is also an early frontrunner for Game of the Year honors.

GamePro knew that they had something special on their hands right from the beginning. When they received the game for review for their January issue, they were in a heated debate as to which game should win their coveted Game of the Month award. They had a tough time deciding between some amazing games, such as Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4 and Mario Galaxy.

We already knew what Game Informer scored this game.

predator6008d ago

as u sed that was game informer, this is GamePro

MK_Red6008d ago

Nice score but from the GamePro that gives 4.5/5 to NFS:PS and Boogie, ME should have gotten 6/5 or something ;)
But really, good score for a great game. "The Best RPG of 2007" and "Frontrunner for Game of the Year honors"... nuff said. True and great.

Neoninja6008d ago

Yo MK. You have to be the most excited person about this game. Do you think its that good?

lonestarmt6008d ago

I don't agree with it being best rpg of the year, but it will hands down win it. Persona 3 is IMO, but Jap rpgs outside of FF never get any credit in the states :(

MK_Red6008d ago

@ Neoninja:
It depends on your preferance for type of RPG. It's definitly the best RPG in eyes of a western RPG fan like me and definitly a must have if you are a fan of classic PC RPGs of 90s. It features a dialogue system with lots of lines that is a dream come true for anyh classic RPG fan that loved Baldur's Gate and Fallout's dialogue trees and fun.

Another aspect that is great is it's dramatic story and branching parts that have "Mass"ive "Effect" on the world and characters, something that RPGs no longer have. It also has amazingly great character design and superb good and bad guys (Though they are rather grey and natural and indeed deep). Saren is my fave and BioWare has created another classic character. The idea that you create any character with any look that you like and it speaks and lives gives a great and personal feel to the whole experience.

The side quests are not as great as NWN and Baldur ones and along with tech glitches are biggest problems but the game is beyond gorgeous in some parts.
In the end, it is indeed all that good and as the mentioned in forums, it's actually underhyped. Also, I pretty sure a lot more people are most excited about ME and it's not just me :)

@ lonestarmt
Sadly I didn't get the chance to play Persona 3 but even though I'm not a J-RPG fan, I'm a big fan of those series and may try it sometime next year.

Neoninja6008d ago

MK. Yea I can see that. I'm a big KOTOR fan myself, and Baldur's gate is excellent. In the end though its good to see another good one from bioware. Can't wait.

Good games but no Phantasy Star?

merlox339d ago

Why do people forget Phantasy Star? That is one of my favorite RPG series. Another ther good but overlooked series is ,Y's.

ES3 set things off, it's a shame they got greedy and decided to cut corners so the executives could get huge pay days.

Better not bring back Shepherd from the dead with some half assed space magic.

Snowb420540d ago

If you get your readiness level high enough in Mass Effect 3, *spoilers* you can see Shepard taking in a breath of air under some rubble. It would depend on whichever ending is canon.

I came here to say the indoctrination theory absolutely solidified the ending of this trilogy for me in the best way

@snowb420.
Yeah I saw that at the end of my play through as well. I think they will bring Shepard back….. or at least a mutant version turned villain. Lol
