These GOTY things have gotten a bit silly. It's all subjective. Doom was very good. But Uncharted 4, Battlefield 1, Overwatch are just a few that really are above Doom as far as GOTY imo. Even The Division and Dark Souls 3 would win it for some people.
But it's always subjective since it depends if you consider the definition of GOTY as the game you enjoyed the most, or the game that was the most popular, or that sold the most copies, or that was the most innova...
Microsoft will quickly remove them just like they did with the Fallout price mistake. At least that was as legit price error. This was a whole different ball of wax and certainly bannable. It's going to be very easy to see who all used the key. Definitely not worth it for what will end up as a maybe 24 hour demo before it's deleted, at the risk of a ban.
While I agree MSFT has some major catching up to do in exclusives, it's tough to do this kind of 2017 comparison before E3. We basically just know a handful of spring releases. I think we need to wait until E3 to get a clearer picture of their 2017 exclusives including the big holiday season.
But Microsoft big-time needs to step-up. Recore and Quantum Break were major flops. Fable Legends was cancelled. Even Halo 5 was quite meh and not a big hit, and Gears 4 qui...
Not hard to figure out, whenever 2 games of a similar genre come out at nearly the same time the lesser of the two almost always fails. Battleborn wasn't bad, but Overwatch was better in almost every way and so that's where the players went. Overwatch came from Titan which Blizz had put a ton of time and resources into and was super-polished, vs. Battleborn which looked and felt like Gearbox just trying to make a mp shooter out of the Borderlands 2 engine.
Also, Bl...
I wouldn't include The Division on this list. It sold a ton and everyone played it. The playerbase did leave quickly because of bugs and Ubi being slow to patch exploits. But that was after they'd bought it. And the game itself was very good.
NMS and Mafia 3 are the kings of disappointment for 2016. NMS #1 by far for reasons stated many times, with Mafia 3 next up. Mafia 3 was a disaster of a game that 2K should be ashamed of. The AI was like something from...
That's brutal and super-crappy treatment if true. That's where sites like Glassdoor come in handy where you can share info about employers and what they are really like to work for. At least it helps future employees know what they are getting into. That's pretty invaluable insight. There are some big names companies that are great to work for, but then there are well-known others in the same space that are a nightmare.
From what I see more textures were improved than turned down. It's a mix though which is what you'd expect from a game in development since they are making changes all the time. For example, the boards on the bridge have better textures than the 2015 demo, but the struts of the bridge look turned down. It's looks good and is definitely not a Watch Dogs-type situation where it was downgraded or misportrayed. A game isn't going to look completely identical after another year...
At least from the beta it sure looked like any single player campaign would be incredibly short anyway. I've seen a few games do that lately, where they toss in a token quick campaign even if it's only a few hours long just to say it has one to avoid the complaints Star Wars Battlefront and Titanfall one got. Gamers want a real single player campaign, not something that you finish in 3 hours and never touch again just so devs can claim it technically has one in reviews. So I'd ...
Could you let us know what happens in Rogue One and spoil that too? Seriously who thought it was a good idea to put this as a headline? Makes me want to avoid this site.
Yep, and there are plenty of examples where super-long lead times were a mistake now to know that to be the case. No Man's Sky is the most recent one, but there are plenty of others. These long-lead times for marketing started with some really big movie releases like Star Wars Eps 1-3 where they started doing a year out (which before then it was usually 3 months lead time at most). And studios started doing it for all sorts of even more middle-of-the-pack movies. Somewhere along the l...
That's purely subjective. And he discounts Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 for not being unique enough? That's like saying ignore Halo on the Microsoft side because it's a fps like other games. C'mon, that's weak... Not every game is going to be a new genre, but that doesn't mean it's not special or that there isn't a wide difference in quality of games in the same genre.
The truth is that AAA games cost so ridiculously much to produce now th...
Yep definitely looks good.
Hard to argue with No Man's Sky taking it, in what was the colossal disaster of 2016. The Division had plenty of success so I wouldn't put it on the list, it just didn't sustain it's success for as long as we all hoped. Some of the other ones were more in the mid-range release or at least at the low-end of AAA, so although I think the rest could be considered in the same category of disappointing as No Man's Sky.
Mirror's Edge - Catalyst might be u...
I don't see how it's anywhere near as big of a deal as they are making it to be. It's not backwards compatibility as in 2 completely different versions of the same game. It's just somewhat higher textures and detail of the same exact game on the Pro. PC games have always had to do this all along for many different detail levels. Now PS4 has 2.
I'm looking forward to Destiny 2 and getting back into it. Bungie has to get their act together on DLC/expansions though. Wanting $30 for Rise of Iron content-sized expansions is almost criminal.
Another reason is that Black Friday sales are getting leaked earlier and earlier. People are focusing on sales pre-BF a bit too much for that reason. If in late October or early November I saw that Battlefield 1 is going to be $29.99 on Black Friday, do I really want to spend $59.99 or just wait a few weeks? Same for pretty much all the recent releases. Literally I think the only new release I haven't seen today for less than $35 is Watch Dogs 2. So give it another week or two to see...
Truthfully we're a little early yet to conclude much anyway. We aren't even to Black Friday yet. I think in January you can look back and see how the holiday season releases did. Heck Watch Dogs 2 doesn't even release on PC until next week and people are calling it a flop.
Well it was pretty clear early on that BF1 borrowed many of the dev assets of SW Battlefront. It is a little like BF4->BF Hardline (although not quite as severe). I especially notice it with the forest maps that look nearly identical between Battlefront and BF1. Almost all devs are doing this to various degrees, look at Ubi reusing the Far Cry 4 map for Far Cry Primal. Part of it is just the trade-off with us gamers expecting better and better games, and to offset the costs of doing th...
Timing wasn't great being around Gears 4, BF 1, COD: IW, etc. not to mention other shooters like RB6: Siege that are still going strong. Plus TF2 kind of repeated the mistake of wanting to push their season pass, so they feel compelled to sell x million of copies early. So when sales disappoint they rush price drops in order to sell more season passes. Star Wars Battlefront ran into that too.
Plus truthfully Titanfall 2 simply isn't that great. It looks and play...
There are plenty of games that have been disappointing in recent years. I wouldn't call the NMS debacle that influential. This is something that's been happening for a few years with AAA titles. Assassin's Creed Unity was one, Watch Dogs and it's gfx downgrades (at least at initial release), Batman: Arkham Knight being such a bad PC port that it was pulled from Steam, Halo 5 I'd put in that category, Titanfall 2 looks like it might be one, Battleborn, etc. I can think o...
