Lots of companies outsource dev work, even the company I work for does. But, with any company that does any outsourcing the company employees are still responsible for directing, reviewing, managing, and approving the work and the output of the work done by contractors. And those reviews would have happened weekly if not daily as they made progress. Bioware shouldn't have seen the awful state it was in and basically said, well we didn't do it and it's crap but it's the faul...
It's 90% old XB360 games from what we've seen in beta and in the released list. It's convenient they put Halo 5 in front since the games drop off like a brick after that. EA Access is on sale all the time for $22/year and is definitely worth it. But this for $10/month is a big pass unless they significantly improve the games in the list. Kind of telling that the only headlines you ever see for XB1 are XB360 games being added to the backwards compatibility list, and this servic...
Well XB1 hasn't been doing that great even in NA, so it's situation in Japan is only going to be that much worse. There are virtually no games on XB1 geared for the Japanese market, which goes beyond just JRPGs btw. It also doesn't help though that consumers in Japan (and China) are very much homer-ists about primarily buying from domestic companies. Throw in the awful quality rep that the XB360 had, and it's understandable why Xbox only has 1% market share in Japan and Nin...
The only complaint I've heard real Switch owners that I know in-person, is that they don't like the lack of transferable saves (cloud or sd card to another Switch). The thought of losing hundreds of hours of play progress if your Switch is lost, stolen, or breaks is understandable. As far as the other stuff like screen scratches or cracking, they haven't run into those and they are just careful when placing them in the dock.
But that is an upside if you are ...
1+2 are more of a given than insane, there's a good chance Scorpio will have exclusives, and Microsoft has already been marketing VR on the XB1 for 3 years. Haven't released anything, but they've been marketing it at E3s. As far as Halo, that's kind of a given too for the same reasons, but it won't be coming in 2017. They've already said no new Gears or fps Halo in 2017. So a "Coming Holiday 2018" type trailer is tough to get excited about.
Well just displaying at 4K resolution without the rest of the equation really is meaningless. What matters is what minimum framerates can it hold at 4K. A person could have a budget graphics card that is able to output to a display at 3840x2160 resolution, which is technically 4K. But if it plays games at 10fps at 4K it defeats the purpose. So Microsoft shouldn't just say 4K or "True 4K" (whatever that marketing term means), they should say it will do 4K at 30 or 60 fps or w...
Yep thought this was confirmation of something, but it's purely opinion that it might be a Scorpio showcase title because they are coming out around the same time. 0.o On top of just being speculation, I don't think the timing is even a good point since Ubi has said it won't be coming out in 2017. With Scorpio coming out this year, the releases wouldn't even align. Odds are it probably will support Scorpio whenever it comes out, but I'd probably say that for most cross...
The animations are equally bad for both women and men in the game. It's not like the male animations are ok and only the female ones are bad. Still can't believe they released it in that state. The eyes, mouth, and noses are all wrong, so neither are very good. In many cases NPCs don't even look in the right direction when speaking to each other or being spoken to. It's equal opportunity awful all around.
Underneath the issues there could have been a g...
They've screwed up virtually every aspect of Xbox in the last 4 years, hw performance, failing to deliver on cloud as promised, failing to deliver on AR/VR, the XBLA/indie market they formed and dominated over Sony during the 360 years has been ignored to the point of irrelevance, and the Xbox exclusive IPs have been a disaster.
Backwards compatibility is probably the only exception, and even the positive impact of that was massively overrated. Working 360s with guar...
Really looking forward to this year's E3. Microsoft is trying to battle back and should finally have a real Scorpio reveal. Sony will want to answer that with some great exclusives. And I think devs are realizing the high bar that games like HZD and Zelda among others have set with top AAA titles, and will want to avoid the mistakes some recent flops have made. Plus hoping for some more details on some big upcoming titles like Cyberpunk and Detroit. And there are always surprises. E...
Crackdown 3 looks very meh, and State of Decay 2 is an XBL game. Forza is always good but basically an annual release like sports games (especially with the Forza Horizon's between releases). Sea of Thieves looks like the only one worth much hype, and it's too early to say how it will turn out. So their Big Fall looks pretty thin to me. There's Scorpio, but anyone with a NV 1070 or higher in their PC probably already has a faster system, and with no must-have games it doesn...
All 5 of those games are just rentals. None of them are must-haves. If anything it goes to show how bad the situation is that those are it's top 5 exclusives. Quantum Break wasn't bad, but finished in like 9 hours with little replay value. FH3 was ok but got old quick. Halo 5 was probably the worst in the series and extremely disappointing. And Gears 4 was ok but definitely not as good as some of the others in the series. Worse yet half of them in that list are available on Win...
At the risk of blasphemy I have to admit I really didn't care that much for Witcher 3. I enjoyed the first 2, but there was just something off with the combat and camera that I couldn't put my finger on in Witcher 3. I tried to get into W3 a few times and it just never held my interest.
For me, HZD is a large step above Witcher 3 in terms of fun. It's a fine line between being deep but fun, and being deep and tedious. Witcher 3 fell into the deep but tedio...
The B+M market is so tough right now trying to compete with online. Even Target and Walmart had rough holiday sales, Sears/Kmart and Radio Shack are finally near a merciful demise, and Best Buy has not been doing well for a while now. And when a company like GameStop has earned themselves a bad rep like they have with customers, it's a tough thing to turnaround. Plus GameStop over-franchised with too many locations. There are 5 GameStop locations within 20 minutes of my house, and I d...
In other news my grandmother doesn't play Zelda. It will make a great article for tomorrow.
They've been saying 6 tflops, and although it's not completely 1:1...a 6 tflops PC is not $1500-$2000. That's much more in the $1000 range. In fact you can pretty easily buy a purchased pre-built customized brand name PC faster than that for right around $900-$1000. And the PC would be faster and far more versatile for use beyond gaming. $700 for a barely 30fps @4K console would seem like a stretch. The hw in Scorpio based on what they've stated is only about 1/2 of what ...
As a side-note, it's incredible that Rise of Iron is still $29.99. It's almost never on sale and the only other option is the complete edition which is more expensive, and pretty much useless for anyone who had all of Destiny through The Taken King. It was such a small amount of content it should have only been $15 or $20 max at release, and should be no more than $10 now. It's even more surprising with Destiny 2 apparently just around the corner.
Obviously the extreme ends of the raging folks are wrong, since nothing in game development should go as far as some of this stuff like death threats or specific personal attacks.
But I have absolutely no problem with people doing normal complaining or making fun while pointing out instances where devs have dropped the ball. The NMS devs and Bioware both deserved some ridicule for their missteps, whether it's lying about features or the embarrassingly bad ME Andromed...
Pretty much proves the point about PS4 games on PS Now (or same for the XB1 service) not being the end of consoles. The only current gen games they are going to put on there are ones that have been fully squeezed already of all other revenue. Knack and Killzone are lucky if you get $1 as trade-ins, and can be bought for under $5. Sony and MSFT might throw 1 or 2 better titles on it just to get people to bite on the service, but it definitely isn't going to be the end of consoles. It...
Maybe but it's pretty unlikely just due to size. With all of the expansions and cutscenes Destiny (1) is 51GB. The Switch cartridges only go to 32GB, and it's a safe bet that Destiny 2 will be larger. As far as memory and gfx, it would need to be toned down in detail a fair amount from the PS4, etc. versions, but it could be done. The space constraint would be the big obstacle. But you never know, if the Switch install base gets large enough then I could see them shoehorning it i...
