It could happen, but it's kind of a build it and they will come thing. From what they showed in the list of games in the service that we know, it was primarily 360 games. My feeling on those and backwards compatibility overall, is that if I didn't bother playing 360 games in the whole time the 360 was out (and I had 4 360s btw), they probably aren't worth me spending time on playing now. And of the XB1 games in the list, there were only 2-3 I saw that would even be worth hd spa...

Agreed, 720p and Zelda (a launch title no less, so it's going to be a larger issue going forward) dips 25fps or less in docked mode on tv. It's nice that it can dock, but Switch to me still primarily is a portable imo. It's definitely apples and oranges to compare it to a PS4 or XB1, and even further apart from the PS4 Pro and Scorpio. I'm not sure if the hardware will eventually shrink to the point that PS4 or XB1 (and further away Pro or Scorpio) power hw can fit in a doc...

XB1 has been out for 3 1/2 years now, with promises from the beginning of how "cloud" was going to make XB1 40x more powerful than PS4. To date not a single game on XB1 has used it. It's funny that they would even still try to carry on this marketing.

I work in IT in a large datacenter with cloud. For those that aren't up to speed on it, cloud is great but really has specific use cases where it helps. Console gameplay isn't an area that would see...

I can understand toning down the Special Edition into a Switch-special version. The super detailed textures are overkill on a 720p Switch. Either way I don't see playing Skyrim in portable form being as compelling as it's been made to be. In the end it's a 6 year-old game on a 6.2 inch screen. And on a monitor or tv Skyrim would look better on pc, xb1, or ps4 than 720p Switch on tv. I just don't get the hype for it on Switch. Zelda and other new exclusives though sure. ...

I see this as part good part bad. On the good side it's an acknowledgement that they've lost their way from the Xbox 360 indie great and unique Xbox Arcade games. Many of those were awesome and it was far better than Sony's online indie library. I have no idea why Microsoft practically abandoned that market advantage when they went to XB1, but it was a big mistake.

The bad part is this seems like it's doing the above but taking the Steam Greenlight approa...

Oh and btw Quantum Break a 7/10. If Quantum Break is a better game than Uncharted 4 and Horizon, I'll have 2 of whatever they are drinking.

It's a very cool idea, and I agree this is more like what PS Now should have been. My only concern would be the quality of games in the list included in it. Conveniently they show Halo 5 first, but the ones in the list after it drop off really quickly. Gears UE was good but I purchased that for $10 new, and most of the others shown are hardly worth the hd space. If the game quality is closer to EA/Origin Access which includes AAA games only 5 or 6 months old in some cases (such as Hal...

I'm not entirely sold on the portability. It might be something that would (sadly) work better in Japan than the US. In the US, walking around playing a $300 console, that btw many people want badly, is absolutely begging to get it stolen. It's also a bit too large to go in a pocket, so you'd need a backpack or something to haul it around when not playing. If you're a kid riding around in the back of your parent's car sure since that's safe, but I wouldn't want...

Such an strange article. It mentions Tomb Raider as an XB1 exclusive. It's not an exclusive at all, Rise of the Tomb Raider has been out on PS4 and PC for months. Some of the other mentions like Recore were not good at all and major flops. Quantum Break was enjoyable, but it was also a massive budget AAA title and only has a metacritic score of 77. I completed Quantum Break in only about 10 hours total, and it was more of an interactive tv show than game outside of a few fun pieces, ...

Scorpio is coming for 2 reasons really, the success of the ps4 over xb1, and the hw advantage ps4 had over xb1 that lead to many games being released at 720p on xb1 (and sometimes also lower framerates) vs. 900p on ps4. Granted the resolution advantage also contributed to the reason for the success of ps4.

In the end though what sells systems are must-have exclusives much more than hw. That's been the case every console generation going all the way back to the Atari 2...

There are a few things in this article that are subjective and/or not really true. It mentions that on PS4 cloud saves have to be done manually, and that's definitely not true. Trying to show online saves (which both consoles have) as an advantage is kind of grasping at straws. And saying XB1 has the superior shooters is pretty subjective, the Halo releases on XB1 have been quite disappointing (Halo Collection was a disaster and Halo 5 wasn't great), and even Gears fizzled quickly....

Xbox keeps making promises and delivering very little. It needs not just 1 or 2, but a flood of fun/amazing great exclusives. My concern is that their talk makes it sound like they don't really have a grasp on how far they've fallen behind. I can easily name 10 good PS4 exclusives for every 1 XB1 exclusive release (and timed exclusives don't count imo). Don't put out another Halo or Gears game without having hardcore gamers play it and give you feedback. XB1 needs Unchart...

Very strange that Microsoft hyped a XBL/XB Arcade type game like Cuphead 2-3 years before release. It looked great, but it had too long a lead time if it were a AAA release, and for an XBA game it's just silly. That's one area where Microsoft has really, really, dropped the ball with XB1. XB360 had an amazing XBA library through it's whole existence. You could always go on XBA and find a fun and original indie game for $10-$20. It was the one area where they were miles ahead ...

Just as part of normal game dev sometimes games 2 years from release and still in development have work left to do and changes to be made. When you see an early preview like that at E3 or another conference, it's more a glimpse at what the game storyline and generally what the gameplay is like than a commitment for a texture detail at a specific resolution.

Unless it's a really massive downgrade to the point of being so much worse than the preview that it's i...

It's the same situation that it's been, which is that new consoles will come out with faster hardware - until (or unless) streamed/cloud gaming really becomes a feasible reality. Eventually that's where things are probably going but that's probably a few years away at minimum. The tipping point will be when Internet bandwidth reaches a point that the vast majority of gamers have fast enough reliable Internet to do high resolution quality streamed games without lag. Once thi...

Ironic that Activision owns Blizzard, and Blizzard's core strategy is only release it when it's ready no matter how long that takes. Whereas Activision's saying release Destiny 2 in 2017 or else. My initial reaction would be to then wait on release before buying to make sure it's not a terrible mess. Especially with 3 studios helping them in order to rush it out in 2017, that added coordination adds a whole lot of potential for a bad release. But Destiny and I'm sure D...

My dislike of GS isn't so much on the upselling which is easy to decline, it's more that I had far too many headaches with their preorder bonuses. Also, I can usually get better prices many other places (Best Buy, Amazon, Target, etc.). It's pretty rare that GS has better deals than those with Amazon taking 20% off new games now, GCU 20% off at Best Buy, Target's sales. GS just isn't competitive with those, and I can usually get a new copy elsewhere for less than GS sel...

Being open world or not wasn't the problem as much as absolutely awful npc AI (seriously, like a trip back in time to AI from games 15 years ago), and lazy repetitive quests. NPCs would walk into walls and columns during firefights, or would face the wrong direction during combat. The devs just did a poor job on those 2 areas. It's unfortunate since with a little work it could have been excellent. Instead it was an AAA title that could be had for around $20 new within 3 months of ...

I agree, the the really quick shooters put older gamers like myself at a disadvantage. But that's a relatively small segment of the market of games out there. Most typical fps and any other type of game are fine to play for any age of gamers. The article insinuates that any gamer over the age of 40 is looking for a crossword puzzle game lol. If anything the article is "ageist". I started gaming with my dad in the days of pinball before arcade games were even around, and sta...

I agree and the reasons were twofold. PVE was a little too bland and repetitive, and the first incursion/raid being primarily just a single room horde mode turned a lot of people off from the game. And exploits that were way too slow to be patched ran many others off of the game. PVE improved later, but by then it was too late and many had already moved on to other games. And as for PVP, similar to PVE exploits the hackers at least on PC ruined most of that fun with ESP, wall hacks, aim b...
