I don't think it's really necessary to have 60fps due to the significant drop in visual quality required.

A perfectly locked 30fps will look extremely smooth. Generally we only notice the framerate when it's erratic or suddenly dropping / rising.

For example, God of War 3 and Forza Horizon both looked smooth in spite of 30fps because they were able to maintain that framerate without dipping.

Actually LAZL0-Panaflex, Ridge Racer 7 is 1080p AND 60fps and was a launch title for the PS3.

But very few games ever hit 1080p though due to graphics demands.

Generally it will increase of the generation as gamer's demands increase.

The number of people who worked on Call of Duty 2 at the launch of the Xbox 360 is nowhere near how many were required for Modern Warfare 3, for example. Same with Assassin's Creed 1 compared to 3.

I'd love to only have to pay $69.99 for console games...sounds like a dream come true to me!

We pay $100 US for new games here in Australia, and have for every generation previous (except PS3 games were $119.95 on launch). Nintendo 3DS games cost $69.95 US new here.

Have a look (Gamestop is branded as EB Games here): https://www.ebgames.com.au/

This article makes the strange assumption that gigaflops are the ONLY measure of graphics 'power'.

That's like saying a car will win a race because it has the highest top speed, while failing to take into account acceleration, cornering, braking, traction, shifting, etc.

Not too many great games based off movie franchises, but my faves would have to be Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (way ahead of its time last gen with the open environments, minimal HUD, incredible lighting, combination of RPG, stealth and action, etc) and Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic.

Both took the same direction as Colonial Marines in telling a different story in the same universe, yet both were arguably higher quality and better written than their ...

Why?

Platinum's great at action fighters, Epic's great at shooters and engines. Revengeance is an action fighter, not a shooter. What would Epic have contributed?

Agreed, I'm about 6 hours in and so far it's excellent.

70% of the time it's a lot like the previous games (dark empty corridors with things jumping out, solving puzzles to get machinery working, etc).

20% of the time it's more action-shooter, but this isn't too frequent and works well for some variety as adrenline moments after long periods of quiet and isolation.

10% is the excellent zero gravity full flying around in sp...

Ah, my mistake.

I didn't notice that the Wii U version had been delayed; I thought it was only the 360 / PS3 versions were going to be released in September. Now that makes sense.

From what Ubisoft has stated, there release of the 360 and PS3 versions will in no way impact the content of the Wii U version, which is still getting its extra touchscreen and co-op features as planned.

So why on earth should Wii U owners care about this announcement at all? It just means more people get to play the game, but 360 and PS3 owners will not get some of the extra Wii U features.

Hang on, you're saying if you really want Dead Space 3 you shouldn't support EA? They're the ones providing you with Dead Space 3. If you want it, then it means they've succeeded in creating something you want to play.

If you dislike Twilight, should you sneak into the cinema instead of buying a ticket, or should you, I don't know, NOT see it?

If you want Dead Space 3, buy it. If you don't, then don't buy it. Wanting to play it wit...

How do the micro transaction in Dead Space 3 affect you in any way?

All content is available through normal play. You do not miss out on anything through ignoring the micro transactions. Therefore, you can play the game and pretend they don't exist if you wish and still get the full experience.

However, for some people who may not have the same time or skill necessary to unlock these things, this is an optional way for them to be able to see everything th...

Older games can hit 240fps, but NO-ONE is able to actually see that, since regular PC monitors have a refresh rate of 60hz (fps) and 3D ones have 120hz.

What's the point of rendering 4 times the number of frames that can actually be displayed by a screen?

Oh, and for anyone wondering, HDMI has a maximum of 720p @ 120hz, or 1080p @ 60hz. The cables can't even work with higher than that.

This is just ridiculous.

And this is why the middle-class of games has died out.

To survive these days a game needs to be cheap and indie, or extremely expensive and triple-A.

It's sad when people interpret 7.75/10, which actually rounds to 4-stars out of 5, as 'bad'. Try going to the film section on metacritic. Inception has a metacritic average of 74 . The Matrix has 73. Even Lincoln (favourite for Best Picture oscar) has 86.

Game review scores have go...

The recommendation to pirate the game is a bit confusing. If you're pirating the game, it's because you want to play it. If you want to play it, then hasn't it succeeded by offering enough to interest you?

Either pay the asking price in exchange for playing it, or don't play it.

Your choice, but I'd suggest really thinking hard about the point that if you don't want this game, why do you still wish to pirate and play it?

I love PS Plus, but these are not 'free' games.

You are paying yearly (or quarterly) subscription in order to have access to a predetermined selection of games for the duration of your subscription.

Otherwise you would also say you have a free car, free house, free electricity, free phone use, free insurance, etc because you rent / subscribe / bill them the same way. Paying in advance to have access to something should not be considered to be 'fre...

How strange, here he calls Saints Row The Third 'embarrassing'. I love Saints Row The Third, but Jason Rubin has said several times that he wants to change it.

From his interview in 2011:

I have to say, it's interesting how many people disagree that you'll be picking up the game later today...apparently they know your game purchasing decisions better than you do!
