Yup, that was September 2006, as Core 2 quad launched!! I recall them saying how much better alan wake would run on a quad core because of its multi threaded development....sigh. Seems like a lifetime away now

Hardware Tesselation = MASSIVE WIN. Superb geometry. Look at how curves like gun barrels and gas mask filters, eye holes etc are actually curves and not a bunch of flat sides joined together!! http://www.strategyinformer...

Would you really buy one of these over a quad core 750? Yes, they overclock like mad, but so does the 750. Yes, it has integrated graphics, but you can pick up an uber cheap card like a 4350 and get considerably more performance for aero or video and low end games than the IGP. Considerably more games and apps are around being threaded for four cores, and thats only going to increase faster and faster this year and the next.

Go quad, dont look twice at expensive dualies in 2010...

Im sorry MNicholas to break this to you, but heavy rain nor killzone 2 clearly manage 30 frames a second constantly either, even when there is practically nothing going on. You can feel in both very easily they often barely scrape 20/22 frames a second. As a Pc gamer, my eyes are well attuned to framerate, even if i say so myself. Both are great looking games, but heavy rain is also the MOST scripted game i have ever seen (obviously lol). Its relatively easy to script something that heavily a...

Its look pretty good, but then it damn well better be the best looking console game this gen, its only had over 5 years. Uncharted 2 was done in 18 months!

The only thing left to determine is performance. All the (early)gameplay vids i have seen of this have massive slowdown at some points, and have unbelieveable screen tearing. If these things has been polished out for the final version, then remedy have a winner visually. Im pretty sure that remedy have spent time polishing t...

'Too bad about the graphics. This game looks best rendering dark environments where it's improved lighting system can be shown off and the lack of texture and polygon detail is hidden. In bright scenes like the following it's impossible to hide the lack of detail.'

Wut? Mass effect 2 is one of the best looking games this generation. The game isnt bright constantly, because its not the style. In the areas where it is lighter though, the game loses nothing. Its the best implement...

A game to really savour and explore, not to race through it for the next thing, because the next thing wont be nearly as polished.

Is there any reason this shouldnt run 1080/60 frames? I liked it though. However I felt it still looked a little less detailed than it could...Im realistic, Im hardly expecting uncharted 2 from a 2D sonic game, but all the textures and backgrounds should be hyper detailed

'Lair came out in 2007 and had 5,000 characters'

Maybe i should explain more for you. Firstly Lair is 800 x 1080. Thats LESS resolution than bog standard 1280 x 720. The problem here with your reasoning, is that Lair is a console game first, and an action game second. The sheer volume of rendered enemies isnt particularly comparable to an RTS game. You could name a few console games that employ a great deal of individual rendered objects at once- But it really does not directly...

The consoles dont have enough memory to fully replicate a PC experience RTS. Supreme fail commander on 360 was an absolute disaster. As a result the sequel has had the amount of units more than halved, claiming it is a design decision. Nothing to do with the fact 360 simply couldnt cope with a game of the original scale then? Yeah. Ok.

Any full on RTS like total war or supcom for console, EXPECT compromises. Whether its graphics, units and thus gameplay, or the simple epic cont...

Its almost as though microsoft are desperate to have FF sell extremely well on 360. Obvious statement? Well maybe not. Its as if microsoft have a major vested interest in this game almost as though they have a contract to fulfil with squenix. Maybe they have to sell X amount of units to convince squenix not to abandon their platform for final fantasy? After all, Ps3 has the other FF games

Halo pulls off good HDR lighting.......by sacrificing resolution and anti aliasing. The very first shot shows reach in this build at least has no anti aliasing, the top support of the doorway confirms it, despite the rather liberal use of blur filtering to try and disguise it in these grabs. Resolution? We will see....

Errr....didnt nintendo always dominate the handhelds? How then, can the Ds be the thorn? Sony are the newbies. Since the original gameboy, nintendo have had over 90 percent of the market. They had absolutely no serious competition whatsoever for nearly 15 years....until sony came along with PSP. Yes of course, the DS is still the dominant machine by a long way. Does that mean PSP is a failure? Sony launched this machine into a completely nintendo owned market, took a third of said market off ...

No anti aliasing still? Major bummer :-( even killzone 2 manages a smidge and it uses a deferred render engine (can be difficult to implement well on console)

When you stick a 720P image on a 1080 screen without AA, it looks very aliased still. Luckily i wasnt suckered in by those massive resolution downsampled 'screenshots' bungie knocked out like they did with halo 3, that made aliasing magically vanish...

360 has more memory available all the time, which the developer can assign as it pleases. Reason being ALL of 360s function in its operating system, in game dash, in game music, online functions etc the whole lot takes up a mere 32mb of the unified 512mb memory. PS3's bare operating system has been whittled down, but it still eats up 43mb of the system memory (256mb), and 7Mb from the video (256mb). Some functions actually require additional memory usage on PS3! Thus effectively PS3 has only ...
