@KwietStorm
They really only need to differentiate themselves from NiOh and Sekiro because Ghost of Tsushima is grounded in reality without any fantastical elements. Onimusha falls more in line with the first two I mentioned and even those games are going more for a brutal "souls-like" experience. Onimusha can just be the action game it turned into vs the horror game it started out as.
Capcom needs a new character art team. They sucked in SFV, they sucked in MVC:I, they suck in DMC5, and they suck in RE2. It's clearly a pattern folks, not a one-off or "opinions."
It's still baffling to me that even after seeing games from Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Guerilla, Kojima Productions, Quantic Dream, etc...you still question whether it's real or not. That Ghost of Tsushima demo was definitely running on a PS4 (probably a Pro) but nonetheless, it'll look that good on a regular PS4. No. It'll probably look even better in the end.
Edit: Actually, the article states that it was running on a Pro.
It doesn't look brutal at all. Enemies are being killed with a shotgun and there's no blood or gore. They just fly back with zero damage indication. Enemies are getting bashed with a bat and there's no blood or gore. They just crumple. TLoU2's demo showed what brutality is. Considering the theme of the game, it's disappointingly tame. Even the stealth kills are pg-13 level. Is it a T-rated game? If it is, it would make sense.
Sony could have shown The Last of Us 2 from a CRT TV hanging out the back of a truck in the parking lot and they still would have won E3.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider's stealth/melee demo might as well have been QTEs. Button icons everywhere. Press Y to go into stealth. Enemy walks toward Lara and a button prompt lights up above his head. Hit Y and she does a canned animation and moves to the next guy. Yeah, that's really awesome Crystal Dynamics.
TLoU2's combat is visceral and has weight to each swing and each hit. CD should be taking notes, not talking out of their asses.
The fact they didn't even bother to put a title card together speaks volumes about this game.
Studio A: Only made State of Decay games exclusively for Xbox/PC
Studio B: Only made Forza games exclusively for Xbox/PC
So nothing really changes with those acquisitions. It'd be like Sony buying Quantic Dream. Not a difference maker because they only make games for Playstation anyway.
Studio C: We Happy Few - not really a big get (solely based on that game)
Studio D: Ninja Theory. They could turn into a AAA studio with proper funding. Not th...
In actuality, MS only really bought Ninja Theory and the We Happy Few devs. The other 2 only made Xbox exclusive games anyway so nothing changed there. It's a good start but not really big.
They're on the right track but they're hardly competing with Sony in the first party realm. Two of the studios they aquired were already only making games for Xbox and the other 2 consists of an indie Dev making We Happy Few which isn't impressive. The only major get is Ninja Theory and they're not exactly AAA devs either. They could be but it's way too early to say now they're competing.
And before anyone says it, MS has been in the gaming biz for ...
MS wins if someone finishes watching the conference and says to themselves, "Wow. I need to get myself an Xbox!"
I don't think they accomplished that today. They showed a lot of interesting/great games but the majority are multiplatform titles. They revealed new Halo/Gears/Forza but how was it any different from before? 3rd party games available on PS4 and Xbox. Check. First party offerings amount to Halo/Gears/Forza. Check. Seems like status quo to me.
If it's first party, it won't be anything "big." Like maybe that MediEvil remake but we're not going to get a big budget Syphon Filter or the much asked about Legend of Dragoon. Unless Sony opened up a new studio no one knew about. All of their first party studios just released a game recently or are currently working on known titles.
I don't think there will be much beyond those 4 "deep dives." Sony announced it beforehand so people wouldn't go into it expecting surprises. This way you set your expectations low(?) and won't be disappointed. But let's be real, first gameplay for Death Stranding, TLoU2, and Ghost of Tsushima will be great.
I think all the big 3rd party announcements will be at MS's conference.
When you consider the sheer number of choices that impacts the story that no other company has done to this point, yeah, it's the most ambitious game ever made. Your playthrough can last 10hrs or 20hrs or anything in between. Actions/decisions you make earlier has huge ramifications for later. Characters can die at certain (numerous) points which obviously locks you out of their story but impacts the surviving members. This isn't a game with a set "good' ending and a set &quo...
If the roles were reversed and it was Kara in "From the Dead" instead of Markus, I'd hate to see the reaction of Cage haters.
He's not holding them back. He's the reason QD exists and is why they've made hands down the most ambitious game of all time. This is a game where player choice really does matter in a significant way. Not to mention, they had a team of writers on this game.
@No Way and @pinkcrocodile75
Those are bad examples. Sony owns Spider-man in film and MARVEL approached them to make a game. Sony chose Insomniac. Marvel made it exclusive. SFV was funded by Sony like Bayonetta was funded by Nintendo. RE7 is on Xbox and PC.
Nice! Earlier than I expected. Was thinking Nov-Dec.
The difference is Sony is going to sell 100+ million PS4s and Nintendo will sell at least 70 million Switch units (depending on when they release their next hardware) and it's highly unlikely that the PS5/Next Nintendo completely bombs to warrant an all streaming solution. Plus people are buying more games than ever on those two platforms. It's not like game sales are going down. Not to mention, without revenue from hardware sales and expensive game sales, their gaming division will b...
They really need to beef up the gunplay and violence levels. This is supposed to be a game about fighting hordes of zombies but there's zero gore. Fleshy beings are being killed at point blank range with a shotgun and there's no gore. There's a tiny spray of blood and that's it. A spray of blood that would be more appropriate if someone got slapped in the face, not shot with a shotgun. They take a bat to someone's head and there's no aftermath. They just crumple to the...
