In their defense, they're still in the game. And when they follow, they tend to improve on the encumbant technology a bit. It's too late for MS to "win" this generation by any measure, but they'll definitely help to keep the industry moving forward IMO...
No doubt. Last thing we need is a monopoly on consoles. I'm not including Nintendo because they're kinda a different use case.
Really interested to see if GamePass gets Sony to up their ante.
I think the first part we can all agree with. Even the gamers desire to divide is true. MS vs. Sony is like a sporting event to many, and it results in some nonproductive arguments. But the reason you can't cross play between Sony and MS is that Sony is using it's market lead to further squash Xbox. I don't blame Phil for trying to influence people to get upset over this, but make no mistake: MS would be doing the exact same thing if they were the market leader. They have in the p...
At least this isn't another clickbait article. Sony wanted to experiment and get artsy, and most of us gamers will not appreciate that. We didn't take time out of our gaming schedule to watch musicians. But the games...holy crap. Who ISN'T going to buy at least 2 of those 4 games they highlighted?
It's clickbait. I'd say it worked.
I think it threw a lot of us because they wanted to demonstrate something really artsy, gutsy, and different. They've already got the volume (# games, #exclusived, #gamers), so they don't need to prove that and you can see trailers anytime. They went on a limb and did something ballsy, like constructing a tent that looks like a scene in a game and then moving everyone. I like surprises and technology news better than seeing scenes from games I'm gonna play later, so it wasn't ...
@MakoD - can't say I agree with all your points, but thanks for making me laugh this morning. Good observations...
I was just thinking the same thing. Funny, kinda quick paced, and they have nothing to prove so no BS
What's enough demand? You mean enough for MS to ensure they'll make a profit before they take a risk on technology that only a small portion of us hardcore gaming nerds will love? Yea, I agree with that. Thanks for taking that risk, Sony
Still supported pretty well by Sony and still getting fun games. Check out the reviews on Amazon for other people's opinions. Look and play like hot garbage? No, just no.
We shall see. The Xbox fan is no stranger to promises and patience.
My kids are dying for this. Wonder what cross-play capabilities it'll have.
My bad, I missed the news that We Happy Few of coming to the PS4. Wonder if they'll cancel the PS4 release now...
I definitely don't understand your usage of the word "structure"
Cloud is just another term for servers that can be abstracted from the caller. Azure is a virtualization technology similar to Amazon Web Services but with a MS tech stack. Virtualizing an Xbox experience and "deploying" it to Azure isn't a standard use of their technology. I'm other words, the fact that MS owns bigger data centers for other parts of their business doesn't mean they have a significant advantage. Streaming games requires a very specific type of technology...
@neon - yea, the platform/ecosystem approach for consoles is that they lock you into their platform and then get a piece from everything you buy. MS will get your money for Halo on the PC, but the whole reason they own 343 is to keep Halo exclusive and keep people on Xbox so when you buy Far Cry you get it from their Store.
Ninja Theory's Hellblade was phenomenal that's a good add for MS. 3 of the 5 already in MS's pocket, so not a big change for gamers though it's nice to see a token of commitment there. Now including all of these studios' games in GamePass day 1 is pretty impressive to me.
Only 4 years behind Sony. Wait more... 4 years of they launched today.
If you have a gaming PC, no reason to get an Xbox One for exclusives that's for sure. GamePass is strarting to be the one thing I wish I had on PC though...
A family of devices... An Xbox streaming stick, maybe a streaming handheld? Exciting stuff - definitely would be in line with the direction they've been laying out - Netflix of games.
