Sometimes you unintentionally do something that hurts your teammates. Many people were surprised that using smoke might decrease the power of their teammate’s weapon. What is the reason behind The Finals players being their community to stop using smoke?
Don’t Cover Your Teammates in Smoke in The Finals
While patiently waiting for Season 4, one player took to Reddit and made a public service announcement. Italian_Barrel_Roll noted: “Did you know that smoke kills flamethrower heavies at an alarming rate? Whether it’s smoke from street-side bottles or your own personal vape grenades, these puffy clouds of smoke aren’t as harmless as they look when it comes to your flamethrower friends”.
This player elaborated: “They need air to breathe and to burn every mf-ing thing down to the ground. And they can’t thrive in your cotton-candy-flavored vape grenade. So if you, a loved one, or that orange f**ker over there named Steve is carrying a flamethrower, remember: Smoking kills, get some help”.
We have to give props to The Finals developers for incorporating this little but important detail. You probably know that fire won’t burn without oxygen, so if you cover a candle, it will stop burning as soon as it burns through the remaining oxygen. The same goes for lighting a fire in space, an environment without oxygen makes it impossible to produce a flame. Now, if there is some oxygen, like when the space is filled with smoke, you’ll still be able to light a fire, but it will be weaker.
The Finals Players Give Advice on How to Reduce Burn Damage
You must be wondering what does this mean for the fire damage. Well, according to the OP, you won’t be immune to the flamethrower, but there be no additional burn damage. The smoke could help you out if the opposing team has a flamethrower.
Sunny_McSunset added: “It also prevents the environment from lighting on fire. So, if they hit the environment, then their flames won’t stick. When attacking the platform with a flamethrower heavy on it, I’ll sometimes throw a smoke canister down there as an intro move”.
Other players chirped in with further advice on how to prevent burn damage. RogueProphet_ stated: “You can also stand in the water on Kyoto and in some spots on Monaco to stop the burn damage as well”. Another player, chad_, advised: “You get chip damage from the stream but you and the environment don’t ignite. Dropping a smoke will put you out in you’re burning, too”.
So, the next time before you smoke the room, look around and see if any of your teammates are using the flamethrower. Better yet, look if someone on the opposing team is using one, then you can use the smoke against them. Enjoy the game and see you out there (since you’ll be using less smoke).
