“It’s Glorious!” Players Are Begging the PlayStation Devs to Keep the Iconic PS1 Startup Screen

The startup screen for PS1 was put on all PlayStation devices for 30th anniversary

PlayStation celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in style. Many PlayStation users were surprised when they started up their devices on December 3 only to be met with a new (or, rather, old) startup screen – the one from PS1. As white light shined upon players’ faces, the distinct sound made their skin crawl. Thousands upon thousands of players were brought right back to their childhood.

PlayStation Users Took a Time Machine Back to 1994 and PS1

The majority of users weren’t ready for the sudden flash of white light. Some younger ones even thought something was wrong. Still, many were just flabbergasted when they understood what was happening.

One Redditor noted: “Bro, I wasn’t even aware of the 30th and when I was booting my PS5 yesterday and the PS1 sound came on, I swear I was 8 years old again for just a brief second”. SynthetikSalmon added: “Same, I was so confused but extremely happy at the same time. I turned it off and back on again to make sure I wasn’t tripping”.

A Petition to Keep the PS1 Startup Screen

For many PlayStation players, this PS1 startup screen brought up some of the best memories from their childhood. Many players shared the nostalgia they felt when they unexpectedly saw the bright white light. Truth be told, it brought us right back to our childhoods. Those long, lazy afternoons, when nothing was as important as playing another game. The faint smell of plastic and those old controllers, way too big for children’s hands. We feel old now, but, yeah, nostalgia kicked us hard.

One devoted player, vineeth_vijayan314, noted: “Same feeling, I remember getting my PS2. I remember my dad(who is not with us today) getting me a PS2. For some reason, he felt insulted since I was going to my friend’s home to play video games and he bought me this when we got some extra money. I miss him these days”.

One Redditor, Aggravating-Cap-6686, suggested a petition to SONY. They noted: “Can we please petition Sony so that we can permanently keep the PS1 boot-up screen and sound?”. Almost 4000 PS users upvoted this idea. Hopefully, the devs will approve it. Until they do, enjoy this limited throwback and look forward to the future, and everything that it will bring.
