Sony just celebrated the 30th anniversary of their flagship console – PlayStation. First appearing on December 3, 1994, it took the gaming scene by storm and became one of the most popular (If not THE most popular) consoles ever. From its humble beginning with PlayStation 1 (the first console to use CDs) to the most recent PS5 Pro, Sony has been practically a household name when it comes to console gaming. For the anniversary, Sony held the PlayStation Partner Awards Japan/Asia 2024 event and even added a cool new feature to PS5 consoles. For the Anniversary, all PlayStation 5 consoles had an update that added the option to choose Themes for your home screen, and that proved so popular that the fans want to keep them.
Players Would Love to Customize Their Home Screen Even After the Anniversary Event
With PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary, Sony added a new feature to all the PS5 consoles. For a limited time, you can change parts of the PS5 design based on your favorite generation of PlayStation.
The sound effects bring that nostalgic feel, especially for the veteran games among us. “The nostalgia this brought me this morning,” said Level_Job_1934. Also, the ability to customize your home screen was present back in the day and the fans have been asking for the same on PS5. As a lot of fans said, this only proves that it is possible.
But the amount of people asking for this feature to remain permanent is staggering. For example, Head-Release1332 said “Having this for a limited time is criminal this needs to be a permanent update”, and “I know it says limited time, but I really hope they just let us keep it. I don’t see a real reason why not to. Hearing the PS1 opening and the PS2 menu sounds is bringing me back and making my day right now.“ by figgityjones are just some of the many fans wanting to keep this.
Some are even willing to part with the backgrounds, just wanting to keep the sound effects. “The themes don’t even have to be permanent. Make the sounds permanent—that’s the best part.” said FlashFireFist_ on X.
As a lot of fans pointed out, we can see that the themes are doable and nothing is stopping Sony from making them permanent. As some pointed out, this may very well be a marketing move and a test, for Sony to see the reactions and then make themes purchasable in the future. With all the positive reactions, we are sure that fans would even be willing to pay for them.
