Players Think That One Crucial Game Mode is Missing From Helldivers 2

One thing everyone noticed from the moment they completed the Tutorial is that there is no shooting range in Helldeivers 2. Will adding a practice range to Helldivers 2 improve the game? Some players think so.

Once you complete the Tutorial in Helldivers 2, you are ready to embark on your first mission. Testing out previously unused equipment is done during the missions, and the same goes for Stratagems. You probably asked yourself: why isn’t there a shooting range of sorts? You are not alone, as many players are asking the same thing.

More Players Ask for a Practice Range in Helldivers 2

There is a certain door, between the armory and the Ship Management terminal with no label. Players speculate on what it could be, and a lot of them think it is where a shooting range should be, as presented in a Reddit post by AoifeElf.

More players chimed in, adding that the room could be a holodeck where you can test out everything. Or at least asked for a way to get back to Mars, where the Training grounds are, something like a practice range planet, where you can safely test out the effects of your weapons against different enemies.

One player, named Top-Marionberry-9779 found a hidden location on the ship that says “Live Fire”, alluding that a practice range could really be added in the future. Another player added “It’s a lot to ask for but I imagine they’re working on it. A shooting range is a lot to design and program to make it work decently, and AH have a lot on their hands right now. It’ll probably be added, but give it up to a year or so.”

Is There a Place for a Practice Range in the Game?

While a practice range would be useful to test out the game’s mechanics, with all weapons and Stratagems compared to different enemy types. But, does a practice range belong in a game like Helldivers 2, thematically?

We would say no. The reason is the whole “theme” of the game. Your practice range is the hordes of enemies coming to get you during a mission. There is no need to train specifically with other weapons since Helldivers are not expected to last already expertly trained with everything. The trial-and-error is one of the best parts of the game, trying to work out how new stuff works. We all laughed during our first missions with the Airburst Rocket Launcher, for the sheer destruction it wrought (mostly on your own squad).

Adding a practice range would take away from the experience Helldivers 2 is trying to give us. If a practice range is added, players will probably find what is the best overall weapon, and a majority will simply default to it. We think it would turn away from a unique friendly-fire trial-and-error game and be just a regular shooter, with aliens as enemies.
