Are you wondering what happens to your CS:GO skins after updating to CS2? Will the skins transfer over to CS2 or will all those hard-won cosmetics be lost forever? Read our guide to find out.

Counter-Strike 2 has finally been released on Steam, supplanting CS:GO as Valve’s premiere team shooter. In the long legacy of the older game, players have accrued skins that can be worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. Some players have been asking will they lose everything with the update, or will they retain their bling. Moreover, the question posed by many is – if the skins are staying, how do we transfer them? Worry not, we’ll explain how it works in this guide.

Transferring Skins in CS2

If you have skins from CS:GO, then we have some good news for you. All your skins from CS:GO will be automatically transferred and available in CS2. Note that they will all be unequipped from their respective weapons due to the new Loadout system.

You can re-equip your skins from the Equipment menu, but the best way to do it is by going to the Loadout menu instead. That way, you can also customize your loadouts and swap in any weapons and skins that you would prefer to the default setup.

How to Equip Skins in the Loadout Menu

The Loadout menu lets you equip both Terrorist and Counter-Terrorist loadouts with weapons, skins, gloves, music, and more. To do that, simply click on each box you want to customize and drag and drop your choices. In the case of weapons, you’ll also be able to pick your preferred buying choices.

This drag-and-drop method also allows you to pick the skinned versions of those same weapons. Moreover, if you’re so inclined, you can pick different skins of the same weapon in separate slots, but remember that this will greatly narrow your choices within the game.
