There is a bustling Esports scene around Counter-Strike and some players in the highest ranks even hold out hope to join their ranks one day. So how can you start playing Ranked in CS2? Keep reading to find out.

How Do You Join Ranked Matchmaking in CS2?

Before you can join Ranked matchmaking in CS2, you have to make sure that your account is viable first. Unless you have inherited your level 20+ CS:GO account and updated it to CS2, that means you’ll have to buy the Prime Status upgrade.

After getting Prime Status on a fresh account, you’ll also need to level up your account at least once before being able to join the Ranked queue. All of these prerequisites serve to try to dissuade oversaturation of the competitive mode with fresh accounts and discourage cheaters and banned players.

With everything set up, you’re ready to queue for a Ranked game. If you plan to play with friends, also make sure you’re all in a group first. Finally, follow these steps to join the queue:

  1. Press the Play button on top of your screen.
  2. Select Matchmaking, and then Competitive below it.
  3. You can choose which maps to queue for by ticking and un-ticking your preferences.
  4. Lastly, press Go to queue for a Ranked game of CS2.

What Are the Ranks in CS2?

Your CS Rating is determined by your performance in the new Premier mode, using different colors and numerical values for your placement rating on the regional leaderboard. CS2 uses the same ranking system as CS:GO players had, assigning a rank based on your skill level and performance on a specific map. This means you might have a higher rating on a map like Overpass as opposed to another, such as Dust II. As such, the Competitive Ranks in CS2 are as follows, starting with the lowest rank.

  • Silver I
  • Silver II
  • Silver III
  • Silver Elite
  • Silver Elite Master
  • Gold Nova I
  • Gold Nova II
  • Gold Nova III
  • Gold Nova Master
  • Master Guardian I
  • Master Guardian II
  • Master Guardian Elite
  • Distinguished Master Guardian
  • Legendary Eagle
  • Legendary Eagle Master
  • Supreme Master First Class
