What is the difference between Premier and Ranked in CS2?

Coming into a game that is a continuation of a most played online multiplayer shooter of all time, can be overwhelming for new players. And for returning players, finding out that things have changed can be a bit confusing. Especially if the ranking system has changed, and there are now two different ranked play options. But worry not dear reader, we are here to help and explain the difference between Premier and Ranked play in CS2.

The difference between Premier and Ranked in CS2

There are a few differences between Premier and Ranked play in CS2. Firstly, there is a different way to pick a map that you will be playing on. In both modes, you will have to win some matches first to get your rank placement. For the Competitive ranked play, your rank is represented by badges, and Premier has the number and color system instead. In both cases, you will need to have a Prime account. However, you will also need to be at least Level 10 to queue for Premier matchmaking.

Competitive Mode in CS2

In Competitive mode in Counter-Strike 2 you can choose which map you want to play. After ten wins on that map, you will be given a rank for that map. Players’ ranks on each map can be different, and it will allow the game to put you into games with players of the same rank on a chosen map in the future. Ranks go from Silver 1, which is the lowest rank, to the Global Elite. As you get better in the game you will progress through the ranked and play against more experienced players.

Premier Mode in CS2

The latest of the two modes in CS2, Premier introduces players to a map ban and pick system. This functions like a professional CS tournament match. Teams will ban maps one after the other from the active pool of maps, until only one map remains. The resulting map will be the map that the game will be played on. After ten wins in this mode, you will be given your CS Rating. This number places you on an overal leaderboard. There are three leaderboards for you to compare yourself with your Friends, all players in the region, and in the world. As in Competitive mode, your rating will allow the game’s matchmaking to put you in games with players of similar rating.
