Is It Possible To Still Play CS:GO?

Unfortunately, the answer is no, players will not be able to go back to Counter Strike: Global Offensive and play it. The answer is because the game does not exist in as playable fashion.

Valve released Counter Strike 2 on September 27, 2023, and served as an update to the Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Valve took a page out of Blizzard’s playbook on Overwatch, where the latter replaced the original game with the sequel.

CS:GO was updated to become Counter Strike 2, and all the weapons skins or other in-game items that players have accumulated over the years would transfer over. The sequel is also free-to-play to start, while the first game launched at a fixed price point before becoming free-to-play in 2018.

While some players will not like the fact that the old game is now unplayable, the sequel does boast many improvements over the decade-old title including the Source 2 engine, new sub-tick system, map changes, visual changes, and better in-game sounds.
