Capcom Exclusivity and Future titles: Will Resident Evil 7 be a Sony exclusive?

Amidst the recent confirmation that Capcom’s Street Fighter V will be a Sony exclusive, people are asking if other titles will be getting the same treatment. As another major Capcom franchise that is currently in the works, it’s only logical that the question would be asked of Resident Evil 7.

Could be xbox exclusive or ps exclusive, who wants to bid more?

KiwiViper853433d ago

Exactly. X1 got DR3, PS4 gets SFV, so likely it will be Microsoft's turn again, especially if they want it bad enough.

jc485733433d ago

from what I heard, Phil seems more interested in the games he has announced so far rather than making more announcements about exclusivity.

DR3 isn't exclusive....its on PC, MS doesn't own the IP to that game, expect a PS4 version down the line if not early next year.

Mind you, that deal was done before PS4 was known to be selling like 16 million lol.

If the do go timed exclusive, they will go with Sony based off of sales of the system.

This is business..

freshslicepizza3433d ago

id be happy if it was ps4 and pc only as long as its good. kind of makes sense for japanese content to favor the ps4 since its the only console that is really doing anything that japanese console gamers care about.

Kribwalker3433d ago

Edmix

Same can be said for street fighter 5. It is also coming out on pc. Dead rising was exclusive to Xbox for almost 10 months though.

NatureOfLogic_3433d ago

It doesn't make sense to make RE7 exclusive to a console that's only relevant in the US(MS also had to give away the console and games to achieve this). PS4 with the larger global fanbase makes sense imo.

This more than likely wouldn't be a bidding war the way most of you seem to think.

Street Fighter is system exclusive not only because of the cross platform thing, but also because of Japan itself.

Street Fighter being XB exclusive would have probably killed the brand.

Resident Evil, just like SF is a franchise that Japan heavily favors.

We've seen what happens when a Japanese company makes a Japanese game exclusive to Xbox. Remember Tales of Vesperia? They lost so much money off that Namco Bandai almost had to close down the tales studio until they eventually made a PS3 port for the game in Japan.

But, I'd wait for official news before listening to opinion pieces like this one here

lodossrage3433d ago

Well they obviously expected it to sell more than it did for them to a year later make a PS3 port because of the studio nearly getting shutdown.

Baka-akaB3433d ago (Edited 3433d ago )

"Tales of Vesperia on Xbox 360( not factoring ps3) was one of the best selling tales games since it's inception."

Not really . It basically debuted at 160k in japan and 30k in the West , and ended up in its prime around 600k worldwide . It basically did the same as Rebirth solely released in japan on ps2 ... and was outdone by every following Tales of

It clearly underperformed according to expectations , and as seen with the temporary shutdown of the studios , then as seen with the ps3 version doing 150k on release day alone ...

I love the game and played it twice on those platforms , but the wrong choice clearly stiffled its sale potential

"Tales of Vesperia on Xbox 360( not factoring ps3) was one of the best selling tales games since it's inception.Might also have been the best Tales of game to date."

No .
Xillia ON pS3 ( in japan alone ) sold more than vesperia worldwide . heck xillia took less than a week of sales to beat vesperia lifetimes sales records.
Vesperia sold so badly , even star ocean 4 on 360 sold more copies.
I don't know what alternate universe you're from , but you should go back, soon.
The list of tales of games that sold more than vesperia is freaking long it's actually embarrassing. That's what happens when you release a Rpg ( as good as the game is ) on a console where they don't care about rpgs. heck the first 4 days of vesperia on PS3 in japan already sold more than the entire stock in US.
if you're a huge tales of fan , you should pay attention to the state of your "beloved" franchise.

Inception3433d ago

@shloobmm

Nope. The best selling Tales to this date is Tales of Destiny for PS1/PS2. Next is Tales of Symphonia for GC/PS2. And than Tales of Xillia for PS3

Vesperia sales still good, but not the best selling games for Tales series.

I think sony would get exclusive rights because they do make the movies to resident evil

JetsFool35003433d ago

Won't matter unless they take it back to the old resident evil formula

BitbyDeath3433d ago (Edited 3433d ago )

Didn't they just announce a new DMC that was multiplatform?
I don't think exclusives will be the norm.

Edit: Just read Ninja Theory are the devs behind it... ignore this post >_<

KiwiViper853433d ago

Its not new, just remastered. And only for the purpose of making a bit of quick cash.

Neither Microsoft or Sony is stupid enough to bid for exclusivity of a game that received so much hate the first time around.

New titles are definitely up for grabs.

snookiegamer3433d ago

Let's not get carried away here!

SF PS4/PC exclusivity does not equate to total exclusivity across the board.

I'm pretty sure R7 will be totally multiplat ;)

Resident Evil Fans Discuss Whether They Prefer First Or Third Person

Players have long debated the merits of third-person as opposed to first-person perspective in games and the topic has recently resurfaced on Reddit, this time concerning the long running Resident Evil series. The discussion so far has generated somewhat heated opinions from users on both sides of the argument.

Resident Evil has a long history of using both perspectives, with some entries in the series like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 offering players a third-person view, while others like Resident Evil 7 provided players with a first-person perspective. Some fans believe third-person allows for better visibility and control over the character, while others believe that first-person immerses you more deeply into the game's atmosphere.

Third always

It's what it's always been and how it's meant to be played whether it's fixed camera angles or over the shoulder.

Rockstar381d ago

There was a time when I would have agreed but if you've got a vr setup the 1st person RE's are on another level.

That being said, they can both exist because they're both fantastic.

Babadook7367d ago (Edited 367d ago )

Exactly. If there was no VR version available or possible I’d say 3rd person. But because of the extreme heightened immersion, VR trounces the flat screen version, so 1st person please.

Sonic1881381d ago (Edited 381d ago )

They should have the option to have both going forward imo. But I do prefer third person view

Levii_92381d ago

I love both and the new mainline RE games should stay in first person for at lest one more game that’s why i hated that Capcom for some reason added third person in RE8 .. like why ? What was the point ? It just lost what made the new games unique and different. Re7 is a gem and already such a classic, it’s RE1 of this generation or well the prevous generation i guess i should say and RE8 is bonkers and so fun. Such great games.

Goozex381d ago

First person. It just ramps up the intensity for me

What horror franchises could learn from Resident Evil

Resident Evil has remained the most popular horror franchise in video games for a long time. These are the reasons why.

The remakes are good examples

Resident Evil 2: "Here's how you do a remake"

Resident Evil 3: "Here's how NOT to do a remake"

NecrumOddBoy519d ago (Edited 519d ago )

I think RE3 was actually pretty good but just short and flawed a bit. If Capcom would’ve just put the RE3 campaign and it’s dodge mechanic into RE2 (maybe called it RE Raccoon City Chronicles) and placed the the game in a canonical order LEON A, CLAIRE B, JILL C; then dropped the multiplayer nonsense, it would have been the most perfect package. I enjoyed RE3’s ties in to 2 and they streamlined it well. It just was a flawed deliver.

-Foxtrot519d ago

Oh don't get me wrong, it was a good game but compared to RE2 it was a step back

It was lazier, felt rushed, shorter in comparison and totally the wrong way for Capcom themselves to do a remake

Luckily they got the memo because I'm sure I read RE4 was supposed to be done by the team that did RE3 before they rebooted development.

RE3 needs a directors cut, it needs to be longer, they need to include the choices, add the other locations in by expanding/reworking the current story and also rework how Nemesis works. I want to explore more the city, even if areas have nothing to do with the main objectives and only exist to explore for collectibles or to find new gear.

staticall519d ago

Punching huge bolders while being in a volcano sounds cool on paper, but looks very dumb.
More QTEs = worse experience (RE6 mostly)
Sometimes big doesn't mean "better" (RE6 bosses mostly)
Not every game's suppose to have a multiplayer component (RE3 remake, Umbrella Corps). But sometimes it just works (Outbreak)
Small stamina bar for melee attacks is dumb (RE6)
Locking better skills behind drip-fed skill point drops is awful (RE6)
Do not give your flagship IPs to outside studios. But if you did, heavily control the game quality and direction (Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City)

FallenAngel1984519d ago

For me Resident Evil’s biggest impact on the gaming medium will always be that over the shoulder control scheme pioneered by RE4

Death in the Family: A Look Back at Resident Evil 7

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "With Resident Evil Village out imminently, it seems like an ideal time to revisit its immediate predecessor, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, a game that steered the franchise back to its roots. After replaying the game this past week, I can say with confidence it remains one of my favorites in the long-running series, due to its scary and disturbing atmosphere, challenging boss battles, twisting narrative, breathless action, and old-school survival-horror gameplay. It's certainly not perfect — there isn't much enemy variety and the final boss is a letdown — but overall it's a great game worthy of the name Resident Evil."
