‘There will always be Call of Duty games,’ says Activision CEO

There has been a Call of Duty game every year since 2005. And according to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, that isn't stopping anytime soon.

Just as there will always be terminal diseases.

Paytaa2795d ago

You're talking about the same thing

DeadlyOreo2793d ago

Huh? Bit extreme don't you think? If you don't like the games just move on.

No, shut up, I can't hear this argument anymore. Call of Duty's influence on this industry is too negative and far-reaching to simply ignore it. I don't care if you are okay with paying 5$ for DLC chests, 15$ for a handful of maps, 50$ for some strange ELITE membership or 60$ for the same game with a different name every year... but it's people like you who ruined this industry during the last 10 years by supporting that kind of crap. Of course I'm guilty to some degree as well but at least I've realized that the situation will only get worse as more games copy these money-making schemes and are successful with it.

@ nX

But it's certainly better than the alternative. And that is paying higher upfront prices for the full experience. After all, the extra content ain't free.

COD is toooo huge to fail (in terms of profits for Activision)

Even if 20 years down the line franchise hits rock bottom, it will still have atleast some fans that it will manage 1-2 M sales even then, probably turning a profit for Activision (seeing how they have still not invested in making a goddamn new engine)

PoSTedUP2793d ago

But there hasn't been a COD game for a while now... not one that I can recall.

DeadlyOreo2793d ago

Black Ops 3 released in November buddy. They release yearly, I'm surprised you didn't know that.

PoSTedUP2793d ago

Theyre not COD games, don't be silly.

WushuKnight192793d ago

BO3 is COD in name only. It's hardly anything COD related.

IxWoodstockxI2793d ago (Edited 2793d ago )

Last CoD game was Modern Warfare 3. What are these people talking about every year?

PoSTedUP2793d ago

While not everyone would agree with that statement, I definitely do.

Silly Mammo2793d ago

I wonder if he thought the same thing about Guitar Hero 7-8 years ago?

NarooN2793d ago

Well of course there will be. They sell like gangbusters every year, so why not?

stimm162793d ago

At this point I kind of see Call of Duty like Madden or FIFA. There will never been a reason to stop completely. Even if the series tanks out of nowhere, you take a year off, "re-evaluate" your direction, and boom, right back on schedule.

Jaegar2793d ago

Well, as long as they listen to their fans and audience, I don't mind it, tbh.

stimm162793d ago

Exactly. People can hate the games all they want, but as long as there is a loyal fan base that enjoys the games, why not?

nX2793d ago

There's also a loyal fanbase that enjoys crack and heroine...

Interesting that Konami is releasing nothing of note and still enjoying high profits. I guess this is the allure to companies.

VenomUK19h ago

It was probably due to the half-hearted release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection v1.

Imagine the extra sales Konami could’ve made if it had put some effort into it.

SimpleDad21h ago

Of course, they rereleased MGS series on modern platforms. Thank You Mr. Kojima.

In other words, FromSoft is kicking ass; other Kadokawa game companies, not so much.

Name another company that has ever released only games worthy of a 90+ score for over a decade? starting with Demon's Souls, nothing but 90+s...even DS2 was a great game.

Princess Peach Showtime is currently in the mid 70s
