Review: Godzilla | Destructoid

A love of the movies can only get you so far when the experience is this frustrating and hollow. What a letdown.

I'm not the biggest Godzilla fan, but from the gameplay I saw of this I was kind of expecting these scores!

Rookie_Monster3206d ago (Edited 3206d ago )

I was serious hoping there would one day be a decent Godzilla game and secretly hoping this would be the one as I love Godzilla and Giant monsters. But these scores are terrible and I am going have to once again skip this.

I don't buy these scores to be honest with you sure it's not the prettiest looking game but when it comes to game play it plays just like a Godzilla game should play in my honest opinion. I don't regret buying this and I will admit that $60 is too much of an asking price but if you love Godzilla youll love this game

At the end of the day, this is probably the closest you'll ever get to a legit Godzilla game. Because the name isn't very popular outside of Japan, no self respecting AAA developer would pick up the idea and really put some effort into it, because it simply wouldn't pay off. To the game's credit, it does contain a lot of elements that Godzilla is known for: moving slow, virtually indestructible to all military weaponry, is only put to the test when fighting other monsters, etc. I just wish they didn't make completely weak, just for the sake of making the game unnecessarily difficult. Plus, they definitely could've been a little more creative with attacks.

The attacks increase when you evole the Kaiju....

It's a Godzilla game that captures the essence of classic Godzilla perfectly...

I dunno what else these kids want???

I mean... THE GAME WORKS.... DAY 1!!!!

That's a hell of an accomplishment in 2015..

Couldn't agree more. I know Godzilla isn't nearly as big here as in Japan, but I was still shocked to learn that the GameStop I bought it from only got FOUR copies sent to them.

This game reminds me a lot of The Order. Obviously not in terms of style or gameplay or anything like that, but in terms of reception. Like The Order, Godzilla isn't as bad as the reviews are saying. It's not great by any means, but it's good for what it is. If you're a fan of the monster, you'll like it. I wouldn't rush out and buy it considering the price will probably plummet due to the bad reviews; wait a few weeks and snag it for cheaper and you'll be able to justify the purchase!

That happens when you put a ps2 game in a PS4.

DialgaMarine3206d ago

That's really weird. Destructoid gave a preview on this not too long ago, saying this is the Godzilla game fans have been waiting for.

I can honestly live with the poor graphics and frame rates. My main problem with the game comes from how painfully slow and weak Godzilla, himself, is. To top that off, you can only play as Hesei Godzilla in the single player, and that's the only place you can earn evolution pieces to unlock and upgrade your monster. The fact he's so damn slow and weak makes that process so damn tedious. Plus, it's God-motherf*cking-zilla. Yes, he's slow, but he's King of the Monsters because no matter how tough or big his opponent is, he almost always destroys them.
