Bethesda on working with Nintendo on the Zelda collaboration for Skyrim on Switch

One of the more unexpected Nintendo-related E3 announcements took place during a third-party conference. During its presentation, Bethesda debuted a new trailer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Switch and unveiled a special Zelda collaboration. The game will let players walk around in Link’s outfit from Breath of the Wild, sword and all.

As a massive TES fan I really wish Skyrim would die already. Move on BGS

porkChop2497d ago

The reason they're still giving Skyrim attention is because TES VI won't be out for a few years. They have two new IP in the works, and both of them are launching before TES VI.

Deadlead2497d ago

I get the motivations to keep milking the game, big companies like money, beloved title on newer platforms, and the rare few that haven't played it.

That just doesn't cut it man. Skyrim launched in 2011 selling 20 million+ copies last gen alone. I know BGS didn't want to be known for just a TES-FO-TES-FO cycle. But given the current projects they're working on TESVI probably won't see the light of day till 2022-2023. That's 11-12 years between, that kind of success and gap in releases is pretty unprecedented.

I'd be ecstatic for even a New Vegas type spinoff, but instead Bethesda softworks saw the potential money machine an MMO could be and had Zenimax make that lame ESO game.

I'm just really bummed man, hopefully whatever BGS is working on is worth it.

porkChop2497d ago

Yeah, I agree. The wait for TES VI is going to be far too long. I hope the new IPs are worth it. And I'd love a spinoff, though from what I remember Obsidian and New Vegas didn't meet Bethesda's expectations. I'm not sure if they'd consider going down that route again.

Deadlead2497d ago

That's a shame if true. FO NV is the only one I haven't played but I've seen and talked to several people who revere it as their favorite in the recent series. And ESO is proof BGS would be willing to let someone else tinker with TES, even if it's not cannon. Oh well, wait and see I guess.

No one cares about how you are re releasing a game for the 100th time. Make something new.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22920d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko20d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
