this sounds like the most ridiculous update i've ever heard of.

Rivitur3673d ago

Well it's not that ridiculous it's what people have been wanting from Second Son so why not have an option to have a consistent framerate. I think this might catch on with games that can't constantly hit 60fps.

Kingthrash3603673d ago (Edited 3673d ago )

"it's what people have been wanting from Second Son"
infamous rarely has frame problems...its not something people have been waiting on. the fact that it runs so smooth as a open world game with visuals like it has..i was surprised about how smooth it runs...jus sayin. i think if anything they are waiting on dlc...the friggin game is awsome. the option is cool though. i'll never dislike more options. but its truly not necessary for iss. tf yes maybe..its already a sin to have a twitch fast paced fps without 60fps. to lock it at 30 or 60 shouldn't be an option but a necessity.

fr0sty3673d ago

At least it doesn't dip below 30 like the X1 version.

Bigpappy3673d ago

30fps locked is actually a major accomplishment. I was thinking that was the high mark, and that it would dip below that when titans fall from the sky or explode. Not bad for an online 360 game.

Army_of_Darkness3673d ago

I thought titanfall on 360 was already Set at 30fps? What's going on here??

starchild3672d ago

I hate uncapped framerates, like most people do. There are a few people that don't seem to notice judder very much just as there are people who say they don't notice screen tearing, but most people are bothered by such things.

The whole reason games were always capped at 30fps or 60fps is because on a 60Hz display those are the only two framerate options that won't result in judder. Well, technically 20fps wouldn't produce judder either, but it's simply too low for games.

It's also the reason Nvidia created the G-Sync technology. An uneven framerate is extremely understandable for most people.

Lol according to Respawn, fps is king but wtf is this? 30fps is king now?

brich2333673d ago

Over 90% of games on the 360 are 30fps. If you don't like it get on PC or x1

tracyllrkn3673d ago

But Respawn isn't doing this port, so there's that.

xX1NORM1Xx3673d ago

I disagreed because respawn made the x1 version and the PC version someone else handled the port

starchild3672d ago

It's not just about framerate averages, though. It also has to do with how smooth and consistent a framerate is. If you your framerate is fluctuating all around it produces an uneven controller response and jerky or juddery motion.

A lower, but more steady framerate is usually considered superior to a framerate that averages higher but fluctuates up and down.

brich2333673d ago

You obviously dont realize the importance of a constant framerate.

Tempest3173673d ago

@kingthrash

A lot of people have asked for infamous to have a frame lock...some people are more susceptible to fluctuating framerates. Im not one if those people lol but its definitely one of the most asked for options, right next to an option to change time of day.

OT: I hope this becomes the norm, and I hope more devs also go the route of ff14, and give the option to change between 720p/1080p

Santana3673d ago

Not really, considering that Xbox One version has issues with it's fps dropping.

Kingthrash3603673d ago

i still havent seen a 360 version running...has anyone seen it?
if so link please.

CernaML3673d ago

A local shop near me has them in but I havent seen it running. At least theyre out in the wild now.

TomahawkX3673d ago

I think people will be surprised at how well the 360 version looks compared to the xbone.

u got owned3673d ago

It runs at 30fps that is a big difference

incendy353673d ago

So kind of like Second Son.

imt5583673d ago

Second Son has framerate over 40 fps and rarely dips below 40 fps, dude

bumnut3673d ago

It must have screen tear if it runs at 40 fps, thats why games get locked at 30 fps.

incendy353673d ago

The new Second Son patch let's you lock it at 30fps. Just like this patch is doing.

starchild3672d ago

Every "30fps game" would run well above 30fps if you uncapped the framerate. Rendering loads are never equal from moment to moment in a game so 30fps has to be the MINIMUM framerate in order to maintain 30fps.

If you uncapped any 30fps game it would often pump out framerates into the 40s and 50s at times. It's normal to have a 15 or 20 frame variance between different rendering loads in a game.

In any case, Infamous Second Son runs closer to 30fps most of the time based on framerate analysis videos I have seen. I have it and it's a beautiful game, but I do look forward to the patch because I hate judder in my games almost as much as I hate screen tearing.

porkChop3673d ago

"Framerate is king"

Uh huh, next time you say that try releasing a game that actually runs at the 60fps constant that you claim it does. It's unbelievable that this game actually hits single digit fps occasionally. That's not a fault of the Xbox One hardware, that's just some really poor optimization on an extremely dated engine.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad595d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g594d ago (Edited 594d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad875d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal873d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
