i did the same early in the game, even with my experience fighting him in older games. Having weak armor makes you think twice before approaching some monsters. However, now I am in High Rank this mentality applies to almost all monsters until I start inching my way forward with HR armor.
Hes isn't too bad, then again I've had a lot of experience fighting him in the older games.
Wait until you move into High rank...your armor will be almost useless.

If anything you may consider the monsters themselves to be like lootboxes. Carves offer different item drops, each with varying rarity based on a set percentage.
The rarest items that drop from monsters to create really good weapons and armors are usually 1% to 5%.

Love this game, however came across a glitch right before a boss inside a cave and all my saves were inside that damn cave...I had to drop the game after too many hours were put into it.

for me, I didn't play Prey because it was a FPS. I've grown to dislike FPS, I prefer TPS when it comes to story telling in games.
