As long as the industry is closed-minded, I will be as well. It's as simple as that.
If we had other AAA turn-based games, this wouldn't be as big of a deal. But, that's not the case.
Edit: And WHOA! Are YOU really pulling the "technical limitations" BS!? I thought you were better than that...If Square wanted the original FF7 to be an ARPG, that's exactly what it would have been. I swear, I'm going to start claiming that AR...
I'm playing this for the first time right now. I'm about 45 hours in, on disc 4. I had always heard people call this "the real Final Fantasy 13". After finally playing it, I can confirm that Sakaguchi took Final Fantasy with him when he left Square. Though, I'd refer to it as "the real Final Fantasy 11", despite the fact that Sakaguchi himself was responsible for that one.
It just hasn't been the same since 11 made the first genre chang...
That's not the point. It's not about liking or disliking either genre. Tales of should never be turn-based (unless it's a spinoff), and Final Fantasy should never be action (unless it's a spinoff). And, of course, the situation is 9999 times worse when big turn-based games have all but vanished.
We know it's an ARPG. I don't know why people keep saying otherwise. And, no, ATB was not action at all. It was turn-based, where the turn order was based on a timer.
If FF7's gameplay is archaic, then the gameplay in every game is archaic. You're being incredibly selective. What you actually mean to say, is that you DON'T LIKE IT.
You think it's irrational to be upset that a remake of a turn-based RPG is an action-RPG? You'd also see people upset if a remake of a Star Ocean game or Tales of game was turn-based.
Turn-based games have been treated like absolute s*** for over a decade now, and I won't support it.
Since it's not turn-based, it's not Final Fantasy 7.
