Gamespot: The Last of Us Bucks Depressing Trends All the Way to the Bank

Gamespot's Tom McShea:
""Although Naughty Dog's forays into uncharted waters are commonplace for an independent developer, The Last of Us stands out from other big-budget games in important ways. It should be noted that it probably would not have achieved such high sales if it lacked its extensive marketing push, but its media presence was no more than that of comparable experiences. Of all the reasons we should be ecstatic that it sold so well, there's nothing more important than its high mark of quality. Many amazing games go ignored by the average player, so it's heartwarming to know that something truly great can still get noticed. Kudos to Naughty Dog for a triumphant achievement. We can only hope that other AAA developers and publishers take notice of its success. There is more than one way to make your game popular, and The Last of Us proves that our tastes are more refined than many expected.""

It's like an "apology" article for his crappy review

Ezz20133933d ago

yeah if you guys looked at the comments at that article
ppl seems very angry at Tom
this article should have been the review for the game and no need for score
because it's nothing but praise

LOGICWINS3933d ago

Yeah, some people get overly emotional when it comes to review scores. Theres no need for it.

This reads like a 9/10
nice re-review Tom Shea.

poor Tom getting attacked by his own readers for an 8.5. And to make it worse he's now in the comment section spinning instead of holding his ground (not sure if this makes sense sorry, English is not my main). ;(

But the thing is that many of the stuff that is being praised in this article were complaints in his review.

US8F3933d ago

Lol are you a troll? First of all it was 8.0 not 8.5

Second of all, check the games negativity and you tell me if those were worth deducting points for or not.

I swear clueless people commenting are dime a dozen these days.

HammadTheBeast3933d ago

He was obviously nitpicking, he critisized it for being "too emotional" and violent.

In the end, his review was off from the score.

jc485733933d ago

very nitpicky. He kept complaining about how Joel was a very bad man.

MikeyDucati13933d ago

He wasn't nitpicking. He just had a difference of opinion and my god, in the gaming world if you don't bow down to a game that's been deemed "great" by other gamers, then send shame your way.

Terrible. I would have never back tracked. But that's what you get in today's industry...appeasing the common sheep when they don't like what you say.

UnwanteDreamz3932d ago

It is his opinion and he is entitled to it. If people think his review was unfair or nitpicking that is their opinion and they are entitled to it.

See how that works?

MikeyDucati13932d ago (Edited 3932d ago )

Yea I see how that works. Hide behind "it's my opinion" when clearly yall were so butthurt by his opinions that yall berated him for it.

Yet, we supposed to have freedom of speech. Welcome variety and at least appreciate the reviewer for doing the review honestly. Instead you guys opted for criticism of him not following the trend. Not accepting what yall accepted. So do you get it? Do you get how guys like you further stifle the industry reviewers? Reason why that poor guy got fired for guys like you. Man made a honest review and instantly felt the backlash of the entire internet because of it.

So yea, you and the others narrow scope can't see the broad picture because your scope is...narrow.

So yea I get it. Selfish attitude and not agreeing with popular opinions make you an outcast.

Never will be something I include in my beliefs but you're entitled to yours.

KillrateOmega3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

Article title fixed.

ipe3933d ago

Toms s moron who should be fired.

Tlou s one of the games with best gameplay parts this gen.
So many ways to approach every section and so satisfying with kills, bow, traps...

BABY-JEDI3933d ago

Cheer up. It's not so bad. You know the little girl has a brick in her hand!

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast83d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs80d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast80d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs79d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast79d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer83d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing6983d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs80d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing6980d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger128d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt2383d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid128d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast127d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
