Microsoft Research shows KinectFusion – it’s jaw dropping

Those are Engadget's words, not mine as this Microsoft Research project was shown at SIGGRAPH this week.

KinectFusion takes live depth data from a moving Kinect sensor and in real-time creates high-quality 3D models. The possibilities are huge – you can scan a whole room and its contents within seconds and as you move around, and objects are revealed they are fused into a single 3D model. My mind is immediately thinking of applications in architecture, gaming and augmented reality.

I've seen so many neat uses for Kinect. I just hope some find there way into gameplay for 360

That is some serious high resolution reconstruction. The texture mapping makes the entire thing look fantastic.

Adding virtual objects to the scene and then add physics to it! Interact with it too.

Color me impressed!

This is awesome, combine this with that unlimited polygon tech and you have real life graphics within a generation (plus lighting ,etc.)

ArmrdChaos5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Well...just by seeing how this tech is running it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for a game to prompt the player to turn on cue for eight 45 degree turns to create a 3d model to put you in the game...even wearing proper gear.

Seen it before, show me something that is really jaw dropping or stop wasting my time.

Neko_Mega5067d ago

Link to what? You might want to say what you want and not just write "link please".

This is old news, if it even counts as news.

gamingdroid5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

FragMnTagM is asking if you got a link to show what you have "seen it before"....

FragMnTagM5066d ago

I have been following this tech for a while and this is news to me, so I was just asking if you had a link to prove that you have seen this a long time ago since it is "old news".

By the way it is friggin awesome. With a higher res camera, this could be really really neat.

The 'Stop Killing Games' initiative is close to its final deadline

Ross Scott—also known as Accursed Farms on YouTube—has been fighting tooth and nail for almost a full year to help spearhead game preservation. Starting after it was announced that Ubisoft's The Crew would be shutting down, permanently ending support for the game, Scott launched the "Stop Killing Games" initiative.

That makes a twofold deadline for the Stop Killing Games initiative. Or, at least, one headed up by Scott: The UK petition, which ends July 14, and the EU Citizens' Initiative, which ends July 3.

If you live in the EU then Please sign this or our game ownership rights and game preservation is
at stake. I know there isnt much time left but please consider signing the petition
