EA “Toned” Down Shadows of the Damned

Hell Descent: In an interview with Gametrailers, Shadows of the Damned producer Shinji Mikami tells that Damned was once a very different project. Some of you may not remember, but we reported on Suda51′s survival horror title Kurayami (Darkness in Japanese) being in the works a long time ago. Kurayami faced major changes since development. What started as a game literally shrouded in darkness because a punk 3rd person horror shooter....

Im starting to hate EA more and more due to the lately moves they are making!I seems that they wanted Bulletstorm to be toned too but gladly PCF and EPIC didn't went on the move!Stoping a fan from playing the original copy of DA2 that he brought at a store just because he made a wrong comment at BW forum!Wend publishers start put there filthy money graber hand on some producer project vision things just got nasty for us gamers!I wish there were more independent publishers because the gaming industry is been rule by EA-ACTIVISION-UBISOFT-CAPCOM-S QUARE and independent developers are on this guys hands! It seems the only one that dont mess to much with independent studios working for them is Sony and maybe thats the reason some great studios keep working with them!

EA may be assholes, but at least EA produce great games, unlike Activsion who rerelease the same games every year, make cuts to key developers, and basically force-feed DLC down every gamers throats.

Capcom are becoming dicks too, and Squix are becoming lazy. And despite Ubisofts DRM issues, i would say they are the least dickheaded out of them all.

I agree with some of your statment but if you go back to the guy who got banned it turned out he was just blowing it out of proportion etc and they didnt ban him forever but because his accounts were linked he couldnt access it for the 72 hours of the ban that is all its not as bigger deal as it was made out to be.

but yeah the direction EA are taking latly is a bit concering. all they are doing is trying to beat CoD i mean get over it i dont want another 100 fps games just because you want to beat CoD give me innovation iv eme story and action and adventure then i will give you my money

So this Shadow of the Damned is essentially Kurayami? I'm definitely not playing this watered down garbage now. I'll avoid Suda 51's crap fests from now on. I guess I can go ahead and add Suda 51, Mikami, & EA to the list of shit devs I'll never play games from.

I was hoping Kurayami would be a different game but they turned it into this shit. I guess EA really is the devil.

Neckbear4795d ago

Wow, way to blame developers for publishers' complaints.

Hell, Mikami even says, quoting the article, "the cons and pros of working with a big publisher" are, pretty much those.

Moreover, pullin' the trigger pretty soon, huh? calling a game you haven't played "this shit", "garbage", "crap fests", quoting you there, is not only harsh, but completly idiotic.

Besiders, there wasn't much info regarding Kurayami in the first place, excluding the concept. One could say, Shadows of the Damned is a whole new concept in comparison to Kurayami, and I bet it only retains the gameplay mechanics.

It's not like change is a bad thing, to boot.

By last, EA is a business. I'm quite surprised they aren't milking games yearly, as Activision does. That alone is worthy of some respect, despite all their flaws- don'tcha think?

Too many fucking games being downgraded for the casual masses. Wich is more important? a mediocre game with undeserved riches or the core players satisfaction? FUCK YOU EAss.

banjadude4794d ago (Edited 4794d ago )

Ugh... if they can go over the top with Dead Space 2, why not with this game?

So "Shadow Of The Damned" is Suda 51's "Kurayami"???

Man, I’d love to get a sequel. I wish that’s was this was instead of a remaster, but it’s such a niche title. It won’t sell gamgbusters, unfortunately.

I am not sure what they are looking for sales wise but it can’t be much more than it originally sold if it’s even that much. I’d guess it just needs to sell well enough but who knows what that actually is. I still have the PS3 copy not sure if I’ll buy a remaster or not.

Great game, hopefully that we will get a sequel one day

Shinji should never stop making games. Kinda crazy he left the funding of M$ though.

It's the enjoyment of independence since leaving Capcom that he probably likes. Your company, your rules.

Also, I don't think it's Microsoft's money that would have kept him around. The problem is their culture. We've seen more than once where individuals or teams wanted to leave Microsoft because of how they run things.

I don't think I've ever seen a developer at Nintendo or Sony that bought themselves out from being controlled. But we've seen it at Microsoft. Should be interesting what he decides to do next.

Chocoburger32d ago

I remember when it was announced that he was leaving Tango, someone on N4G claimed that he was old and it was time for him to retire.

I couldn't help but laugh at the ignorance. Mikami (like most Japanese people), do not want to work for Microsoft, they want their games to be played by their fellow citizens, which means Switch, Playstation, and PC. But this fool couldn't comprehend that. 🤣

Was waiting for his return announcement, glad to see that he's back! Please don't make mobile games.

I hope it's still survival horror

They should build on what they did with Evil Within for a new IP and take notes from the Evil Within sequel with those open hub areas.

Wouldn't mind if it was like Resident Evil but with a vampire virus instead.

Yeah this man's skills need a new start to thrive. Hope he keeps doing what he loves. Wonder what his next project is.
