With Halo 3 hype soaring, people are already dreaming about fragging aliens, dual-wielding machine guns and taunting 12-year old kids when the sneak up behind them and put one in their head in a massive online battle.

But what many may not realize is that tomorrow's release of Halo 3 could be a watershed moment for Microsoft and the Xbox 360. With a blockbuster title that will surely captivate millions across the globe, the Xbox 360 will be the most played video game console for the month of October and should catapult the system to the top of the video game world.

Either Final Fantasy or Grand Tourismo is the biggest franchise in the industry. There's a lot more better games for Playstation compared to Xcow. God of War series will beat the crap out of halo. OMG too many superb games coming for the PLAYSTATION 3!!!

He had some good points on the Wii, in that it has nothing coming up besides two 1st party mario games (which is all Nintendo ever has anyway) this year...they will help sales, but I agree with him that this may finally be when the Wii starts to slow down considerably...probably not until after the holidays, those in themselves will keep sales up...but there is barely anything for 2008 that looks half way decent for it imo...

The 360 will most definitely take this year...but if there is one thing that makes a "analyst" an ignorant retard...its calling winners when the race just started...his comments on the "Give up hope for the PS3, its already done" is completely wrong...The PS3 already has by far the most powerful lineup for early 2008 and after...and still has a great lineup for this year...It will not win any months in 2007 I would bet...but come KZ2, MGS4, FFXIII, etc in winter/spring 2008 it is hardly "dead in the water"...

this console war is not even 2 years old yet (not even one year considering 2 of the 3 consoles release times)...its really funny to have people saying "the wii will be close to winning, the PS3 won't, and the 360 is most likely to come out on top this generation"...when not even 10% of the race is complete...

I don't find much to agree with his Sony quote--doesn't seem like he's too knowledgeable about the market. Surely better days are ahead for Sony, especially when they get the price down. KZ2/FF/Ratchet will drive sales (just as Halo3 WILL drive sales). A guy I worked with is strictly a platformer (Ratchet) and Tiger Woods, so he'll buy a PS3 when price meets his level. IMHO, this holiday will be huge (and next) as more and more people buy HD tvs and want to move from the PS2 (I had a PS2 and moved to the 360 after Sony's final delay of PS3s release)--note the HUGE Madden implications of more 360 sales than a Sony platform. gCM

Disclaimer: I have multiple 360s and take pride in skewing the "attachrate" higher (there are so many sweet games for me and family).

I am sure you Sony supporters realize that the 360 folks will not be visiting this forum for the next few months due to a certain game which shall remain nameless. Therefore, you will have ample opportunity to bash the 360 and the game, with no one attempting to rebut what you are saying.

Never the less, by now reality should have struck and you realize that Halo will make it very difficult for Sony to overcome MS at least in the US, and certain parts of Europe.

The best outcome they can hope for is a world wide tie for 2nd with MS, but that is not looking likely at this point. It appears that Sony
(like all companies do occasionally) miscalculated the market this generation. I anticipate that they will learn from their mistakes the next round of console releases and be much more competitve.

Halo 3 will NOT win the console war alone. FF13 is more likely to win it for the ailing PS3 than the close 2nd 360.

The fight, though, is between the 360 and the Wii. Now, let's look at some numbers. The best selling franchises of all time are Nintendo's franchises. Mario is by far the most. Pokemon is second. Tetris is right up there and owes a lot of that to Nintendo. The once-every-few-years Zelda is nearly as popular as the yearly-all-platform Madden!

Halo is ranked 38th overall, not too bad for just two games, of course. There is another Nintendo franchise in the same area with the same number of games on the market...Nintendogs.

Therefore, we shouldn't say Halo will end it in favor of the 360, because if Nintendogs were to come to the Wii, history says it would be every bit as much as a finishing blow, adn get both consoles right back where they are now (assuming Nintendo were to make a new Wii console people would eat up because of the name attached to it).

That's not mentioning the much stronger franchises Nintendo has.

All 3 consoles have must have games for certain genres, not just the 360, and I don't even consider it a great FPS, myself, though I know millions of others do.

We all know Halo 3 will be a huge success. But what, I think, will decide whether or not the 360 surpasses the success of the original Xbox will be decided by all the games OTHER THAN Halo.

I don't think any console can survive on one massive hit and that's it. A diverse library with something for every gamer is what makes a successful console in the long term.

I think that depends on the type of games you like...I love MGS4, GTA and GT5...with those 3 alone I'd be satisfied for a while...but for now I'll be seeing you guys in Halo3 MP.
As a side note I am also waiting for PES for PS3 or 360 (whichever gets rated higher)...and as a soccer fan this game will consume my life.

I dint ask anyone to pay for it. Piked it up myself and i must say, it was worth it. Still 3 mission left after 8 hours on heroic. After playing this the kz2 looks like 50s black and white movie. I dont even think ps3 has the capability to render such huge open areas with almost unlimited visibility with both on and above ground battle happening.

All in all, it must be suking to be stuck with $600 ashtray and seeing the world lit up at the launch of h3. Millions of gamers will be enjoying this game from today onwards. I was lucky to be able to pik it up from a store here in dubai.

I agree with many people comments, it is too early to announce a winner. But they do need good games soon. I really want to buy a PS3. But there is no games yet. And, I need more than just MGS3. I know that will be good and FFXIII might not be out until 2009. And, we not sure how killzone will be yet. But people fell to mention that Xbox360 has a good line up next year also, Splinter Cell 5, Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden 2, etc. So, the bottom line PS3 need games and need the games fast. And if they be behind next year like this year they will really be hard to take the lead.

At the risk of getting my head bitten off by folk who take brand loyalty a little too seriously, I don't agree Halo will make or break the 360. The Halo series is already popular, but it didn't save the original xbox coming far behind in the previous gen. The current sales are a testament to the better start the 360 has this time round, and what looks to be a strong continuation on a brilliant franchise. But I don't see how it will push the 360 ahead.

Obviously the best the PS3 can hope for is to be a late bloomer, but along with the wii they have something the 360 does not have, a breadth of software catering to a wider audience (buzz, singstar blah blah, you fill in the gaps.) i.e the causal market. The 360 is a kick ass hardcore console but it needs a few more tricks before anyone can comfortably say it looks like it will win the race.

It's always funny how the 360 was dead in the water when it first came out and for the first year, yet no one remembers that now. What are all the AAA titles for the 360, that I know of? (I already know there will be a fVckload of disagrees, but what the hell. try to argue with me reasonably and not like a fanboy and I might not think you a tard) GOW: came out a year later and now is coming to PC with more content. Lost Planet: Most people were iffy about this one, or so it seemed. Crackdown: anyone who honestly thinks this game sold on its own merits and not because of the Halo Beta is an idiot. Bioshock: It's on PC too, so I don't really need a 360 for it. Forza 2: It's a good racing sim, But most people with eyes can see a huge difference between Forza And GT. Halo 3: It's Halo, either you love it or you hate it. There is no in between. I may have missed something, I never claimed to be a 360 expert, so bring on the lists that shame mine.

Xbox 360 is the only console to actually depend on a game, a "make or brake". It was Halo 3. Fortunately (for Microsoft), it all went "according to the plan".
