Why Can’t Mario Appear on 360?

X360 Mag: It is a matter of some dismay to us that titles the calibre of the quite superb Super Mario Galaxy 2 never make it to our favourite console. Yes, shooting the head clean off some 14-year-old from Ohio has its charms, but the fact platformers seem to have died a death outside of Nintendo’s jurisdiction makes us sad. And not just a sprite with frony faces on it, either.

Because Nintendo owns the rights to Mario. What a dumbass article.

SeanRL5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Who approved this damn article? It's so stupid.

Edit: Skimmed through the article, so he just want's some platformers and some variety on the 360? I guess that's justified as the xbox does have a lot of shooters, a lot of good shooters, but still a lot.

Johnny_Bravo5070d ago

@PSfan999

Read it and you might find out why it was approved. The article is not talking about Mario directly coming to 360.

sikbeta5070d ago

It's more than that, the plumber is the freaking insignia of Nintendo, it's what made Nintendo popular, for God sake, WTH with this articles...

Persistantthug5070d ago

That is why you will never see Mario on XBOX 360.

But what about Banjo Kazooie.....what's wrong with that?

I guess the grass is always greener....I guess.

SixZeroFour5070d ago

agreed...but SHOULD choose a better title, makes the author look idiotic

is it so hard to write "why cant xbox 360's have platformers?"..."Mar io" is the character, not the genre. Its just very misleading

at first glance at the title, i was going to go straight to the comments and put "same reason master cheif cant appear on Wii...cause microsoft owns him" luckily i read the comments and article first

exnihilonihilfit5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

The article is three sort paragraphs, and all of them are talking about Mario. It alludes once to the idea that they'd be satisifed with some other quality platformer, but clearly these guys don't even know their own system. Braid is a brilliant platformer and so is trine. True, these aren't full retail games, but it's not like there's nothing on Xbox in the way of platforming.

This article fails.

DA_SHREDDER5070d ago

Alot of good shooters? Surely you got the console mixed up. Killzone2, MAG, Warhawk, and Resistance destroys everything on the 360. Also, why cant mario ever be on the 360? The better question is why cant Microsoft just buy first party studios instead of buying dlc's?

ChronoJoe5070d ago

To be fair. Most of you didn't read the article, clearly.

It's more about how platformers have died, on the HD systems. Well, on 360 anyway.

I'll admit, they're not exactly thriving on PS3 either. Ratchet and Clank is still good, and I suppose you could say that Uncharted has platforming elements, but it's not Jak.

All the PS3 platformers have become third person shooters with platforming elements, come to think of it. Sucker Punch now do Infamous, Naughtydog Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank has always been a third person shooter/ platformer.

I'd say the early ratchet games had more platforming in 'em though.

cranium5070d ago

LBP may be the only "pure" platformer in the HD consoles this gen. That makes me very sad :(

exnihilonihilfit5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

GOWIII and UC 1 and 2 don't just "have some platforming elements" they are huge parts of the games' structures. PS3 has a lot of nicely blended genres. Aside from that, LBP and Ratchet do just fine. Nintendo doesn't have very many platformers beyond Mario. Unlike shooters, this isn't an over saturated genre.

ChronoJoe5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

God of War, rather unfortunately doesn't have any platforming aspects that are any challenging. Neither does Uncharted.

I'm not being harsh there, that's just how it is. The platforming elements in those games do a good job of pacing the game between action packed, and traversal sequences, but there's no real substance to them.

LBP is fairly platform orientated, but more physics based than traditional platformers. I'd really like to see some Banjo Kazooie type game on PS3/360. Ratchet and Clank is really good but too much shooter for me.

I also have all the super mario games but Super Mario Galaxy isn't as exporation orientated as Sunshine or 64... unfortunately, fair bit more linear, and Super Mario Bros Wii is just the same as all the other Mario games, or close enough.

I'd really like to see a new adventure/platforming IP. I liked those platforming games where they had a central hub and a fair bit of freedom in things you could do (Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Ratchet and Clank 3, Banjo Kazooie games, Conkers Bad Furday/Jak Series) that type of platformer certainly doesn't exist anymore...

Sgt_Slaughter5070d ago

the title is just for hits. Don't read it it's worthless.

cLiCK_sLiCK95070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

I lold at the people who immediately said "Oh because Nintendo owns Mario". just goes to show that people dont even read the article and post comments based on the title.

Anyways the title is stupid and misleading. I would change it so I wouldn't look like an idiot.

Side note: Xbox owners only like blowing S**T up and shoot mindlessly. Platformers would fail on the 360. Which is why they dont even bother bringing platformers to 360. If you really want platforming, just get a PS3 or a Wii. Simple as that.

Well, that also brings up thw question, why can't he be on PS3, iPhone, Android.

The Answer: He's Nintendo's Private Property.

actually

there was a pirated copy that I saw once
that lets you play alot of Mario games on your PS2
and same with some NES games

WLPowell5070d ago

why wouldn't a game like mario sell on the 360. looking at games like Alan Wake, Forza 3, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Fable 3; anything that isn't a military-themed shooter won't sell. That's why MS is still guessing on what to do with Rare.

Natsu X FairyTail5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Ninja Gaiden 2 sold. so did Forza 3 with Forza Motorsport 2 with 2.674 million approximately.

Fable 3 isnt even out yet. Oh and Fable 2 Sold Pretty damn good for a rpg aswell with 3.67m Sales as of now.

adram5070d ago

well, rare made kincet sports -_-

bunfighterii5070d ago

Thats not the real question.

It's purely from the standpoint of IP protection. It'd be like McDonalds all of the sudden allowing Burger King to make Big Macs and Quarter Pounders.

Roozium5070d ago

Fable 3 isn't out yet so how can you know that it won't sell? Jesus, look at your own post before posting it.

Cajun Chicken5070d ago

Because the 360 has shot itself in the foot being a faux 'hardcore' console and not having any studios to make quality platformers since The Maw. I'll just look at my sublime PS3 Ratchet and Clank titles now.

Roozium5070d ago

I love people like you. Comes up with reasons that is totally off topic and lives in a world where Playstation is the only choice in life. Maybe you should go outside sometime and stop flaming articles on a site that is destroyed by fanboys and flame-bait articles.

Cajun Chicken5069d ago

I find it funny it seems like I'm one of the only people to read this properly. Be fanboy as you want, but this article is about he 360 not having platformers and my above statements fit in with WHY.

Metal Gear Solid 5, Nearly After A Decade, Is Still A Timeless Classic

The Metal Gear series, led by Kojima, pioneered the stealth genre, creating a masterclass in storytelling and gameplay.

No. But MGS5: Ground Zeroes might actually be one of the greatest Game Demo ever, if not the best.

xHeavYx10h ago

I know a lot of people didn't, but I actually liked that story twist at the end. The game was fun and all, but I wouldn't call it a timeless classic.

just_looken7h ago

A demo is free that was a $40 cry for help as later we would know konami did not want to fun hideo and his team anymore that is why we got the unfinished phantom pain.

-Foxtrot11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Meh

Great stealth gameplay but the game was just average.

Bland open world that felt lifeless, the story felt shoehorned in, unfinished story etc. The whole thing was just average to me compared to the other main titled games.

I would have rather preferred it if they kept Ground Zeroes for the main game as the opening and the rest of the game turns into a Metal Gear 1 & 2 remake to bring things full circle.

just_looken7h ago

If you dig around they had old behind trhe scenes of phantom pain vids and books wrote around the time.

Before funding was puled the main idea was to keep peace walker coop it was in the games early builds and that end game were your building your base that was suppose to be metal gear one.

You as the fake big boss was going to make your own metal gear one map aka your base (outer heaven) then me as sold snake use the mode that is in the game invade/defeat the base even fight your current version of metal gear that was in the game but not finished.

So your idea was on the table bit got canned.

CrimsonWing6911h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Like hell it is. That was the first time I became aware of being sold an unfinished game and was blown away about blind fanboys saying it was some perfect game.

Yea, the first few chapters were great until they do that thing halfway and make you replay all the missions again. Then little things like capturing animals but only seeing a JPEG unlike 3 where everything was modeled out. Areas were massive, desolate, and boring to look at.

Game was a massive let down for me and the potential was so high for it. Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing games I ever played. What’s worse is it starts off brilliant. You literally play through until you get to the point where you could tell they just stopped developing and then quickly used glue and construction paper to “finish” it and then sold it. Quite frankly, that’s insulting to consumers and fans.

Inverno10h ago

People have selective memory. This game had huge drama attached to it, what Konami did to Kojima and this game was horrible. Now they praise Konami cause they revived Silent Hill, even though SH looks half arsed too.

CrimsonWing6910h ago

I dunno if they’re getting much praise after the Silent Hill 2 debacle. Makes me scared sh*tless for the MGS 3 Remake…

JEECE11h ago

Yes and no. In many ways in was a great game; there's a very strong argument that it has the best gameplay of any MGS game, and that it is one of the more interesting open world "playgrounds" we have gotten, in terms of how the world operates. But as an MGS narrative, it is pretty far down the list, for many reasons.

Storm231h ago

I don't think there is any argument. The gameplay was incredible. But yeah...disappointed in the rest. Could have been incredible but...well...we all know what happened...

Fishy Fingers10h ago

For me, best gameplay, worst, everything else.

Storm231h ago

Yeah...gameplay was so damn good.

I'd love a remaster of both games with 4K, raytracing, and the ability to have both AA and AO at the same time.

Petebloodyonion1d 5h ago

Remasters were made for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2009 Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena

porkChop20h ago

It was a remaster of the first game, plus a sequel. The sequel was never remastered though. In the PC version you couldn't even have AA and AO, you had to choose one or the other. You can't buy it anymore either on PC.

MrBaskerville1d 9h ago

MS owns the developer, if only they wanted to bother with the license, could be a nice addition to Series X BC program. These titles and Arx Fatalis.

Petebloodyonion1d 5h ago

Microsoft does not own Starbreeze Studios; it is owned by Digital Bros through its subsidiary, 505 Games.
Tigon Studios, founded by Vin Diesel, primarily develops games featuring him and holds licenses related to these games.

ZwVw1d 1h ago

You're thinking about MachineGames (Wolfenstein) which was formed by several ex Starbreeze staff after Assault on Dark Athena was released (whose owned by Zenimax/Bethesda), now owned by MS.

rlow11d 7h ago

Great games, wish they would make another.
