As for a FW update, i'm all for it because it is long overdue! I want some more features :D (Wish they would add the style & info of PSN stats etc on the Web browser into the actual ps3, so you can see a summary of their trophy level next to their name or something.

PSN really does need an update, mostly the interface that needs the update.

you see/play GT5 in 3D. I've seen the GT5P in 3D demo and it was amazing. Now add the head tracking support for the PS eye into the 3D gaming and it will blow your minds away.

It's cool that sony will have the ps3 3d ready with one or a couple of updates, to bad I got a new t.v. last june. I'm not scheduled for a new t.v. for another couple years.

Preach it. I can't wait for 3D. I saw Alice in Wonderland this weekend in 3D, and I kept thinking how great it will be to get 3D in my house. I remember when an HD television removed my need to go to the theater, then the theater got 3D. Now, it will be nice to not need the theater again.

3D may be just around the corner for the PS3 but for me it's about eight years off, since I pulled the trigger on a new 62" HDTV for our home theater setup last year.

Current HDTV =/= 3D Supported TV. Many people DID just buy an HDTV for this generation of games but many aren't going to go out and buy another set of 3D supported tvs. If you think the HDTV you have at home is going to work, bad news buddy. This will only benefit a handful of people who have the income to throw at a whole new tv for something still in it's infancy (3D). Until more and more broadcast companies come out and jump on the 3D bandwagon and 3D tv prices drop, this is a niche group of people. If you don't own a 3D supported TV...you're SOL.. Plus you still need glasses.

i have a 1080p tv i dont know why it cant just get a software update to display the signal in a way so itll look 3d. when i went to watch avatar they didnt use any special equipment, it looks the same as any other movie just that it has boarders on the stuff thats in 3d. a regular tv can do this, all you need are the glasses. which i also have from watching avatar :)

It's not just a "software update" it has very much to do with the hardware. Just because Avatar in 3D didn't look very much different to you doesn't mean it wasn't There is a lot of stuff behind the scenes to make 3D its not just a matter of upgrading some silly firmware and voilà. I'm not even gonna try to get technical because I'm no expert behind it but I'm pretty certain bringing in 3D in this day and age is a bit more complicated than running to your liquor store and buying some red/blue anaglyph glasses.

i can't wait for this, i found out yesterday that my TV had an 3D put in it, buts its not HDMI cord one, i wonder if this will effect my 3D playing?
okay like does the HDMI plug in, support 3D for my tv? i see a 3D plug but its for a round cord style, kind of like an attenna cord but with more sticks rather then just one

It is an experience worth investing in. Avatar in 3D brought a whole new experience to the movie. Especially, the scenes in the hallways or the computers in the office.

It is much better than the old style 3d and I did not once experience any eye strain.

liez! =p motion controls are needed, they are part of the whole new revolution of gaming. which hasnt happened yet. I know they working on motion controls, but they doing something others arn't (cept for maybe Natal, maybe) which is precision. That is very important. Voice recognition is anoter thing. Natal and the Eye toy have the body recognition. The next and final step is the use of the mind to control. Though I never looked into it my bro told me about some small toy thing where you can move a ball (or somthing) by wearing this thing on your head and thinking of the direction. Simple yet amazing. all this stuff may seem like crap, but they must be improved countless times before anyone can see perfection, dont think to forget about them because it may bore or not fit your expectations.

3D for TV's are 'hardware' enabled not 'software' enabled, if software was the case then Sony, Samsung, LG and all the other company's rolling out 3D-HD TV's this summer just wasted billions of dollars on new hardware for nothing.

TV's don't work like PS3's if that's what your thinking in terms of a FW upgrades.

You need a new TV and you need specific glasses. Its going to cost a mint to get it up and running. The glasses you get for the movie are totally different then the ones you will nedd for the Sony setup. They are similar to the glasses needed for the the PC 3D SETUP currently running on PC's.
But you will need new tv's to enjoy this feature.

Funny, when I went to see Avatar & Alice in Wonder Land the theater gave me a set to take home that worked perfectly! Honestly I think 3D tech is meant for gaming and works hand-in-hand with computer graphic images, they just complement each other very very well.

It will definitely take gaming to a new level and the progression will be felt positively.

I don't even mind wearing 3d glasses.. putting one on will be second nature, like wearing shades.

To me 3D gaming seems like such a natural progression of gaming that it is a shame that while my PS3 will be 3D ready, I myself won't be ready unless I plunk down like 3 grand for a new 3D plasma.

You need the hardware man, NO you can't use whatever glasses you seen with whatever film at the Theater.
To the guy that says he can see a 3D round plug on the back of the TV, that is a 3-D synch port so you do have a capable 3-D set. Sounds like you could benefit with Nvidia 3d Vision glasses bundle and hook up your PC to the HDMI port and than that synch plug from back of Nvidia IR emitter to the back of your port on your tele and your good to go. You bought a DLP tv in the states? most probably.

These TV's will not work with the PS3's 3-D I'm fairly certain as Nvidia's is checkerboard (loose half vertical resolution) format out to do DLP TV's, where as SONY's will be full 1080P (60hz) to each eye (page flipping 3-d). Don't expect games to run sweet though I can tell you as soon as I turn 3-D on Nvidia vision on my PC it halves the frame rate of my game only got 1 GTX260 OC card in it but still this is how many times better than console gaming for rendering capabilities.
You guys just don't know what you are missing been gaming in 3-D for a while and won't go back to 2D I can tell you. If you don't have the TV to support it start saving man it's worth every cent.

Movies will been fine when the first 3-D bluray drop in the next 3 or so months but games are rendering 2 images at once, so my logic is we only just barely get 720P gaming now at decent sort of frames rates. I seriously doubt there is some magic trick SONY can do to help render the left and right image and keep good frame rates. I know there is about 3 games they are adapting for it but I reckon if you see a full retail game with 3-D it would have to be upscaled to 1080P etc there is no way it can render 2 frames at 1080P each as much as I know the PS3 is a beast this time you can't just throw it at a spu and expect the miracle because we are talking full render of the scene for left eye and full render for right eye.

I almost know for sure that 3d gaming will work as the famously anti-ps3 digital foundry did an article in Jan to try to downplay 3d gaming in fear of the xbox not being able to cope. Check it out lol they are sh!tting themselves.

ok i already own a 3d tv and was planning on doing it through pc but when i heard of this i figured it will be easy. All i would need is an emiter and glasses, but then i read components wouldnt be compatible since it would need hdmi 1.4 Now that woul hurt for me since my receiver cost me 1500
