Nintendo Life writes: "The DSi Shop is currently home to a gaggle of puzzlers and non-game applications, but platformers are sadly few and far between. That said, last week, Gameloft's Castle of Magic hit the service, and this week, EA delivered unto us Foto Face: The Face Stealer Strikes. EA is no stranger to 2D side-scrollers, their latest being Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure for the DS, but this is their first game to utilize the new cameras available on the DSi - the use of photos to customize in-game characters, in fact, is one of its main features. Will it be just another gimmick, however, or will it help this game put its best face forward?"
This week, Nintendo DSiWare and WiiWare sees the arrival of an ancient game made modern, Mahjong alongside the festively fun, Happy Holidays Christmas and Just Sing! Christmas Songs. If that isn't enough of a treat, also available this week to download is A Little Bit of...Magic Made Fun: Matchmaker and for those to whom a Christmas shopping list is essential, myNotebook: Red should provide the perfect memory aid.
Pocket Gamer writes: "Foto Face: The Face Stealer Strikes represents EA's first original title for the DSIWare store and is shaping up to be an interesting experiment in combining traditional gameplay with the unique features of the DSI platform.
The game is primarily an action-platformer. You navigate spikes and moving platforms, and perform switch puzzles while dishing out pain to a colourful cast of enemies with your chosen costume's weapon."
So, in the end, it's a tradeoff -- a game with a core gimmick that's definitely worth checking out, but an adventure that may not be interesting enough to play all the way through to the end, after the novelty of all the picture-taking and noise-recording is over with.
