PES is Europe's Madden; It sell millions every year no matter how bad it is. So I really don't think Konami gives a phuck. I stop buying PES since PES 6.
I hope they go back to the time when to took 3-4 to make a PES game (ISS PROE), but I know I'm just dreaming, it'll never happen.

Its not down the drain, as it still has the best core gameplay, however the amount of bugs and the amount of things missing in PES compared with FIFA put FIFA higher than PES imo.

ie came out on PS3 and 360 simultaneously the standard has gone down. Just like RE5. Thats the problem with multiplats quality is sacrificed for sales.

If this game had been PS3 exclusive utilizing Cell and blu-ray it would have been a whole different game.

PES2009 is a good game and Fifa 09 is a total turd, when Fifa 08 was the best '08 football games.

What are you talking about ?. The ps3 version of PES 2009 is bloody awful mate. It's so jaggie that when you take a corner the flag looks like a ladder, and it slooooowwws down. Don't blame the bloody 360- for that. If that's the case it should at least be on par with the 360 version ( of which is crap too by the way compared to this years fifa 09) The game has just not moved on and they rely on every modder sorting it out for them, and thats nothing to do with the 360. As were on the subject, Fifa 09, also as most multiformats is alot better on the 360 as is the R5 demo. Face it, if only the sony exclusives are what your interested in, you wont buy many games in a year.

Cant believe i wasted time reading your statement to be honest. To say that the PS3 version of PES and Fifa are worse than the 360 version is highly ignorant. Given i own both games on both consoles, and have competed in numerous PESrankings tournements in the UK, i can say that certainly both versions are near identical, given that the PS3 just edges in certain areas, whether it be exclusive game modes, the PS3 controller having a better d-pad than the 360 and, in the case of PES2009, being alot easier to import your own kits, your own crowd chants etc. Visually both systems and games are on a par, and online certainly sucks for PES2009, so i do not see how you can make such a rather dismal assumption.

As for Pro Evo, rather funnily, the game just hasn't evolved at all over past few years. Its basically the same game i've been playing day in, day out for the past several years. There just hasn't been enough evolution in the gameplay aspects, and Konami have literally let E.A catch up. Fifa 09, while not perfect, is far more of a football simulation than alot of the Pro Evos of recent years. I really think Konami needs to step up more now and really work on their game engine and presentation. Hell, even 2009's master league was nearly the exact same as 2008s. It simply isn't good enough

being a huge PES fan, I gotta say that I've been disappointed in PES08/09. The offline game play is awesome, but online is just a lag fest, and sprint fest. No skill required to win a match online. Fix the online and PES will be back on top.

It is interesting, the author is right regarding PES in HD systems. However, PES for Wii is the best football game ever made by a very large margin. I hope they apply some of that creativity in forthcoming PES games and not only do a must needed update in the graphic engine.

To be frank it's only the bugs and glitches that leave PES behind FIFA this gen. In fact the best and most innovative football game is a PES game-the Wii version of PES2008. If the defensive AI is srted out for the spring launch of 09's installment on Wii it'll be the best football game around easily, imo.

PES and FIFA on PS360 haven't(apart from Legend and Be a PRO modes)innovated very much past PES4 or 5 tbh and the way they used the controls n the Wii was the first big change either series has had in an age. FIFA has polished execution and gameplay to a fine sheen but there's not much actual improvement of the core games is there? I got sick of buying a new PES a few years back and all they did was save some editing of the squads whereas the Wii game at least looks at playing differently and the new mode with one player controlling theteam with Wiimote and chuck while one player is controlled using a classic contrller looks to be another good idea. Honestly, it'll take a real improvement for me to go back to playing the HD versions(tbf presentation is least important to football games as the Wii offers a fine level in any case)when they haven't really moved on since PS2 days.

hmm, iv never played any PES game, i grew up on EA's FIFA series so I cant really compare them. All i know is the graphics are better on FIFA 09 but they're useless unless u watch replays :P

I'd say that this is a worrying thing about Japanese game development as a whole.

I've been saying to myself for years especially with PES is that the game simply isn't moving with the times, but when you look further a field you have Resident Evil 5 as another example of tired old game that may look graphically new with tired and worn out game mechanics and features.

I can live without brilliant graphics, sounds, etc. I only care about gameplay, and for a long long time, Pro Evo was all about great gameplay. But the last few games they felt the need to include some kind of 'rubberbanding' and 'fixing' to make the game more 'exciting' or whatever, and it's just frustrating and no more fun.

I chose Fifa09 over PES last winter, and I'm quite satisfied with that choice. FIFA09 isnt giving me as much fun as PES4 and PES5 did, many years ago, but it sure is a whole lot better than PES2008 and 2009.

It's the absolute truth that PES stopped evolving for now . PES 08 was quite crappy , and PES 09 is only there to clean '08's numerous messes .

However even at it's lowest , PES still plays better imo than Fifa .
Fifa made important changes and improvement with 08 , and continued it a bit with 09 .. however it's still not fun to play imo .

I insist on the imo part .. and why unlike what some ignorants baboons keeps repeating we dont buy it out of habits or for a brand .... that would be actually how Fifa survived in the first place so many years while PES kicked it's ass till '08 .

Anyway despite the numerous awesome moves that fifa offers , i can't feel the player , nor the ball . It's pretty , it's well animated , but when i play it , doesnt feel intuitive or right , i dont feel any different between a pass or an actual shoot , i dont feel that i've done anything particular other than running to the ennemy player to steal his ball , and the game is still quite sluggish .

Fifa's play is far too scripted , and it's already a problem is PES as well that needs solving .

Among the other negatives , while Fifa hold every licenses , their player/team editor is crap . In Fifa 09 i couldnt even do a proper asian player . Part of the reason i had fun in pes 09 was the fact that i spent time creating fantasy teams , like recreating football teams from anime series such as Captain Tsubasa or whistle .

PES's career mode was pretty great too , and a huge game within the game , alongside champion's league .

Oh and about licenses , it actually was never much of a hassle , with so many amateur patches out there for every platform , to get propers real teams and logos in PES .

On feature i actually loved in Fifa was there formation system . PES's one isnt bad , but it's just the usual .
In fifa 09 you can really feel like building up a gameplan .

PES will sadly be left behind if not stepping up the ante .. but luckily that's what they kept promising for the next one , a major rehaul in both graphics , and gameplay .

the thing about this game, is it does simulate Soccer in a beautiful way, better than Fifa.

and the game play is just great, so why change it, I think they should work on the Graphics and leave the gameplay

Well this is coming from a former player of pes and one who has played and beat some of England's very best (at pro evo 5.) Everything in this article is true however the blogger has missed the point completely. The main complaint about pes2009 was the online mode. Offline pro evo still plays a mean game but the online is a complete and utter disgrace.

The blogger in all fairness, is stating facts and is clearly showing that he has no experience in the football/soccer field he's blogging about. He talks about the fifa engine.. fifa is way more than the engine. I converted this year from pro to fifa and the amount of options available is astounding. Konami don't need to update their game code, they need to give EVERYTHING a huge overhaul and this they are not going to do this year as it would take them at least two years to match the amazing game that is fifa 09.

Seabass admitted both last game werent new things , just updates while they prepare their 2010 rehaul , wich take the same two years you mentioned .

The only PES game i play now is PES 2 on the ps2. I tried the following versions but they ruined the gameplay. So i have stopped buying new versions.
